The food is pretty similar to most of these other suburban Thais, too - it tastes good, and is hot and fresh, but the choices aren't exactly inspired. The same choices could be seen in Thai restaurants all over the country, although probably not done quite as well. The differentiating factor for Thai Kitchen Restaurant is none of the above, but the service - it's actually amazing. Upon entering, the friendly proprietor asks you how you are (and seems to actually care!), where you'd like to sit, how your day's been, etc etc. The little kids dining on the table next to us were not only offered crayons and paper, but then complimented on their beautiful drawings, which were then hung up in the restaurant!! For regular customers, don't even worry - he knows your name, where you live (not in a creepy way), how you've been a little sick or are looking forward to a ski trip - in short, it's a personalised and engaged service, the likes of which are rarely seen in Sydney today. The food's arrival is quick, and equally caring - is everything ok? Do you like the food? Is there anything that can be done? None of this is in an overbearing way, but a caring and familial approach to giving customers exactly what they want. At the end of the meal, the bill is surprisingly low (excluding the large sales-related tip that I leave), and my tummy and my heart are full - one with delicious food, one with affection for this gorgeous little restaurant.

Singha Thai is certainly not the only Thai restaurant in Frenchs Forest - there are more than a…read morefew, that's for sure. But amidst tough competition, Singha Thai is a bit of a soft spot for me. Firstly, the staff are SO nice - whenever you walk in they're pleased to chat to you (but not in an annoying, won't shut up kind of way), and are very quick to seat you and take your order. I'm a poor student (ergo, someone who rarely tips), and I always tip here - the staff are just so nice! The restaurant itself perhaps leaves a little to be desired - up a flight of stairs, this is regrettably not somewhere I'd take my less than agile Grandma. It's also really dark inside because of the way the building faces. The decor inside is also a little tired, a little faded. But the food - oh, the food! - the food makes up for this small oversight in restaurant decorating and furnishing. As do many Sydneysiders, I adore Thai and am well versed in it. And of the many suburban Thai's I have partaken in, Singha Thai Restaurant is pretty excellent. The menu offers a feast of Thai favourites - spring rolls, Pad Thai, Pad See Ew and Thai Beef Salad are all done well here. The food always comes out quickly and with a smile, and taste amazing. It also tastes fresh - none of the slightly gluggy taste that so many Thai restaurants fall victim to. As one who lives in the area, I go back time and time again - for both the food and the excellent service.

The descriptions of the food on the menu speak to me personally - Barbequed Duck with Stir-Fried Asian Greens, Thai Coconut Curry, Lime Milkshakes - as the stuff dreams are made of. The staff is purely young, good lookin' fellas. I want to love it; on an intellectual level, I do love it. But every time I go, the reality serves to disappoint. The settings are as ethereal and beautiful as they sound; just off frantic Mona Vale Road, the Buddha Belly does a remarkable job at maintaining tranquility no matter the traffic. But the food - always, always, always I am disappointed. The flavours are average; as my companion put it "It's nice. But you could eat just as well at Terrey Hills Tavern." The amount of pleasure that I derive from my slow-cooked Pork Belly is disproportionate to it's $30 price tag. My companion feels the same about her similarly-priced duck. Although beautifully presented, I am not impressed by the unnecessary use of a deep dish with a knife and fork - eating out is meant be enjoyable, not a task. The settings are beautiful; the service high-quality - if only the food was as good as everything else. Maybe a better choice for a coffee?

I've had massaman curry from various different Thai restaurants and nothing tops the one from here. We did a search and this was the only venue near us serving Laksa for lunch. I had always thought Laksa was purely Malaysian. But come to find out, also a southern Thai dish. And I now prefer the Thai version. It is more creamy with a rich coconut flavour than the Malay broth version with sour asam. The service was very attentive and friendly and the pricing is fantastic. Will come back again and again. You come here for the food, not the ambience. And it is BYO, so that helps get around the unassuming looks.

My mum and step-dad have bought a bit of takeaway here and there over the years; I've come with my girlfriend a few times a year and the quality continues to amaze. They even have my favourite stoner food - deep fried banana and ice cream! I know Australians love Thai food, hard to see why not when restaurants such as Thai Tucka are around for us to enjoy! I don't go back to any Thai restaurant that I judge to be a three out of five or lower. This restaurant, on Pacific Highway in Gordon, is 5. Five out of a whopping five. It's only open for dinner (enormous shame, but you can do as I did and buy it takeaway for the next day for lunch) but food allocation is the point here. My God. Some dishes look like a mountain on the plate. I only ever get the Pad Kee Mao (spicy stir-fried thick rice noodles with chili basil leaves and my choice of chicken) but other dishes on other people's plates have looked good. Get the curry puffs as well (minced beef, sweet potato and onions mixed with mild curry in a crispy pastry). These people know what they're doing.
