We stopped by last night and ordered the masaman curry and the spicy lo mein. The curry was bright with flavors, creamy and full of potatoes, tofu, pineapples, and peanuts. Not the best thai food in Nashville but for lunch I got veggie pad thai with tofu, a spring roll, and coconut juice for under $8. The flavors were good but I wish I had known they don't give you limes with the pad thai. I will ask next time. I called in my order and it was ready as soon as I got there. GREAT value! And the soups are especially delicious, both the Tom Yum and Tom Kha. I favor the Tom Ka Koong (with shrimp), which is a bit coconutty (and is not listed on the menu but costs ~$2.75). Tom Ka Gai, with chicken, is also available. Tom Yum is well-flavored and very tart, which I like, but might be too much for some people. For $5-$8, you will get quite a large entree that ends up being two meals for me. The Pad Thai and Fried Rice are good choices. Also, the people who work there are very nice and even gave us free dessert, which tasted AMAZING. It was some sort of rice pudding type of thing. Overall, definitely worth a try! This is hands down my favorite Thai restaurant in Nashville. I lived in L.A. for a year and spent many weekends exploring the culinary creations the Asian culture there had to offer. And of course I feel deeply in love with it. Thai food is my comfort food. When I came back to Nashville I wasn't expecting to find anything that even came close to what I experienced in California. I was pleasantly surprised to find Thai Kitchen. They have really done a lot of work to the place over the last 4 years but the food has remained the same. The Tom Kha Kia taste so clean and fresh that you'll find yourself drinking every drop. They have also mastered my personal favorite dish the Pork Lard Na. It is amazing and the gravy is perfect, I love it so much that I usually eat the leftovers cold for breakfast the next morning! I have tried other things on their menu and yes they are all pretty darn good. So give it a try. I hope you love it as much as I do. read more

And I have only tried one dish out of the whole menu so my review is not complete, but will update later when I do decide to try inside. I always order vegetable ke mao, and it is so good, but not consistent with the taste. Some days I will get a very oily pad Kee mao other days I will get missing vegetables and eggs. Ive been going here ever since I got station at fort campbell, and every time I go to downtown my wife always requests to go here. The restaurant's set up is relaxed, it is small but its still better than any other thai or chinese restaurant in Nashville. The food is really good and they don't use that awful MSG. Lunch is stellar! You can get a dish just about the same size as the dinner entree, along with a soup of spring roll. Only $5! That's something you can't beat. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon around 11:45am. The place is located in a small building right off Thompson lane by the 65 interstate. It's hard to spot from Thompson Lane, luckily the gps told us where to go. We entered the restaurant and noticed we were the only people there besides a table of four. There isn't a sign to seat yourself or wait to be seated, so we awkwardly stood around until a middle aged man greeted us with menus after we picked a window table. I think I know why so many of the reviews complain about the service here. While the man that helped is was friendly, he was the only server in the place. There was two people back in the kitchen cooking, & that was it. I felt badly for the man, because as the lunch rush came in, he was literally running from table to table. He wasn't enough to serve the 12 tables they've got in the place. I'd eat here again, but if I came in & it was somewhat busy, I'd probably leave because you'd be waiting a while for service. Anyway, on with the food. We ordered a spring roll, an egg roll & dumplings for an appetizer. They came out quickly & then we ordered. I ordered the spicy lo mein with chicken, Phillip got the duck curry. The spring roll & egg roll were very crispy, which I like. They came with two packets of duck sauce. I'd like it better in a bowl, but I'm just reaching. The dumplings were filled with what I guess was pork, I enjoyed them, very fresh & savory. The entrees came out in a reasonable amount of time. That's when I noticed the service going down hill. The portions for the entrees were great considering the price, ($7.50 for spicy lo mein & $9.25 for duck curry). My spicy lo mein seemed to have the thin, pad Thai noodles in it, instead of the common noodles you get with lo mein. The chicken was a little tough a dry. I enjoyed the sauce, it was spicy but not overly so. The duck curry was covered with what seemed like ground sage on top. I don't know if it was an afterthought, but it was overpowering. The duck had a lot of fat, but was easily removed. Was kind of surprising to see small shrimp in the duck dish. The people that were there before us were able to order AFTER we received our food. They didn't get their food until we were done with our food. Another table next to us as for a to go box about 20 minutes before we left. I'm not sure if they're still there waiting for that box. We waited for about 15-20 minutes before I went up to the counter to pay, I didn't know if he was going to drop the check off or not. He apologized profusely & I gave him my card to pay for our meal. He ran it for the total & gave me the copy to sign. The receipt had "0.00" written in the tip memo line. I asked about it & he said that the machine was messed up and wouldn't do tips. Uh oh. We didn't have any cash, we scrounged up $1.50 from the car but that wasn't enough for a tip, even if the service was spotty. I went back up and asked if he could run the card again for just the tip. He obliged. So fair warning if you're paying with a card. This place would be great if they got a couple more servers. read more

2013/051 I really thought this was going to be a hole in the wall, with a few tables. There was actually seating for about 40-50 people. There was one woman taking orders and cashiering; another woman was doing the cooking. I came on a Saturday during the noon hour. It was pretty quiet at first. But soon there were a lot of takeout orders. The woman (the owner?) spent much of the time taking orders and getting takeout orders prepared. I think my order was sitting for about 15 minutes before she brought it to me. I can't remember what I got -- I think it was duck with a house sauce. I did appreciate that they made me Thai iced coffee when I asked. It's not on their menu, but I am not a fan of Thai iced tea. This review is for dinner only. Glad we tried it but likely won't be back for dinner. Across the dishes, quality and execution were spotty and there wasn't enough goodness to carry the water for the dinner selections we had. We ordered Lad Nar talay (seared wide noodles with seafood and gravy), pork Gwaey theow (Thai noodle soup), green curry shrimp. Som tum (papaya Thai style, ordered crazy ho)t, pork satay, fried chicken wings. (If they give you a choice between Thai and Lao style, consider that Lao style will come with fermented fish and/or fermented rice paddy crabs--woof--I grew up with this stuff and it brings on the funk--so, not for the faint of heart--but I did feel a little swell of pride that these folks are keeping up the native way of making this green papaya dish.) The Lard Na was watery and oddly a little bland--the gravy should be thick and a bit gooey. The seafood - not so fresh. Adding a bit of sugar, hot pepper, and fish sauce help but it is missing the body and unctuous mouth feel I expected from this dish. The Gwaey theow--noodle soup was pretty good. The broth was pretty good with interesting depth. I ordered pork and expected minced pork which is more the norm but it came with slim chunks of pork -- okay overall. Cilantro and mung bean sprouts thrown in and no basil that you would get with a bowl of pho. The green curry was just too sweet for me and far sweeter than what you would get in Thailand. Maybe some Americanization going on. Texture, however, was good with lots of creamy coconut cream and chunks of veggies and big shrimp, but just way too sweet. My husband and I give Thai Kitchen this five star rating for taste, quality and price. My husband ordered the basil chicken. The chicken is in bite-size pieces with a fried egg on top. The flavor is sweet and smoky with just enough heat. I ordered the red curry with chicken. It was not too sweet with just love heat with wonderful vegetables and toasted peppers, delicious! When we go back, I will have to order the basil chicken. The soups, tom yum with shrimp and tom kha kai with chicken, perfect! The ambiance was pleasant with modern swanky decor. thai kitchen used to be really cheap until the owners raised the prices by 2-3 dollars per dinner dish. They amount has also decreased. The food is good, and the pad fishes are all right. I am Thai and I get a take out from this place every week. The owner is Thai and she can make anything I requested. It is the most authentic Thai food in Nashville. Everything I tried so far has been great. I don't know if she makes it extra spicy for me or not but I request for my food to be Thai spicy and it's very delicious. I had driven passed Thai Kitchen several times and finally stopped by to try it a few weeks ago. I ordered the Basil Seafood with white rice and Thai spicy for some temperature. Such a good choice!
