The name itself, That Thai, pretty much sums up the general feel that it's just another one of those types of eateries. The restaurant is a converted Queenslander with a good sized outside deck to enjoy a summer breeze on. When you arrive, you have to be a little patient because the staff always seem to be preoccupied with something. It took my wife and I five minutes to be sorted out and that was on a night when the restaurant was only half full. In comparison to their service, that Thai serves a pretty substantial meal. Their Banana Leaf Chicken was so big that I couldn't finish it. My wife enjoyed her yellow curry but in the end there just wasn't any excitement about the place to warrant another visit.

The staff were slow to acknowledge our arrival, then slow to bring the menus, then slow to take our order. And the food was - you guessed it! - slow to arrive. Once it did arrive, it was okay. Pretty standard suburban Thai fare in big portions and reasonably priced. For me to return to a restaurant where I've experienced poor service, the food has to make tolerating the service worthwhile and that isn't the case here.

This dish has the most amazing burst of flavour jam packed on tiny pieces of chicken. Order this dish with coconut rice on the side to balance out the spices, it works a treat. Other dishes I like are the 'Green Curry fried rice', 'Pad Thai', and 'Mussaman Beef'. It is not the cheapest restaurant in the area, but it is worth it. If you are on the hunt for the best Thai restaurant in Brisbane, well look no further because 'Thai Terrace' is the place you have been looking for.

Some friends and I were next door renting DVDs from Civic Video and had been planning to grab dinner somewhere in Rosalie Village before movie marathoning on someone's couch. We did a quick circuit and settled on Thai Terrace owing to it's breezy, spacious front terrace. Plenty of outdoor tables is always a plus at a restaurant, especially in the Queensland climate. We sat down and our menus were brought straight over. After much discussion about sharing and who wanted what, we had come up with a lengthy and complex order which always makes me a bit nervous because restaurants can be prone to messing those up. I needn't have worried because the food came out after only a short wait and nothing was missing and everything was tasty and authentic. We all agreed that it had been a successful meal and that we'd picked the right restaurant and ordered well. We thought the staff and service at Thai Terrace had been far above average and that the prices were very reasonable (especially once we split the bill per head). This place has a weird split level and another higher split level happening, but don't let that deter you because the food is quite authentic. We had the Beef Massuman Curry (no choice for spicyness, this was pretty mild) and the Chicken Pad Thai with Chicken satay sticks for appetizers. The Chicken Satay sticks were $9.90 which did seem a little high for 4 sticks, but the taste was good. The mains are all around 16-20 dollars and between the two of us, we paid just under $50 which I thought was a pretty good deal on Park Road. The pad thai, was hands down one of the best ones I have had for a while, the tamarind taste comes through, the squeeze of lemon juice adds perfectly, not too dry... nice chunks of chicken breast... guess what I'm having for lunch at work today! So I have reviewed the review I had previously and have increased the stars! Definetely work a try, the dishes are really yummy and all the waitresses are super friendly.

The decor is much nicer than most of the suburban Thai places I've been to. A bit more modern and fresh, maybe. There are comfy banquettes to sit on, and the menus have pretty carved timber covers. I always order the jungle curry. Unlike a lot of curries, the jungle curry contains no cream or milk so it's very refreshing and light. They also do a mean vegetarian Tom Yum here at Siam Square (and I haven't been able to find anywhere else that will do that). The service is always attentive and efficient and there a lots of little touches about this place that make it special. The elephant statues, the way your rice comes out in the shape of a love heart, the crisp air-conditioning. All the little simple things that make a meal so much nicer, and that a lot of suburban takeaways forget about, come together at Siam Square Thai. You can BYO wine, and they are also licensed. The prices are standard for thai food, but the food itself is of a much higher standard than a lot of the other Thai places around Brisbane. Siam Square is a niche in Thai restaurants with its more contemporary style and dishes that offer more variety than typical Australian Thai fare. Remember, jungle curry!

If you order rice as a side with your main meals, the rice is set in a heart shape, which I found very endearing. Siam Square does traditional Thai cuisine perfectly, but their stand out for me is their Roast Duck Salad, which comes served with a giant portion of fresh vegetables, warm duck, and a spattering of home made dressing and lychees. Located towards the city cat end of Bulimba's Oxford Street precinct, Open 7 days a week from 5pm - 9pm, Thai Legend is a take-away only business. One could technically "dine-in" but there is very limited space, and it is more of a waiting area than anything. The site of Thai legend use to be a Traditional Corner shop built in 1918, and was originally established as a newsagent. From the outside you can still see the semblance of a bygone era. Just outside the shop is the Heritage Trail info board installed by Brisbane City Council, where one can read about the corner shop's history. It's comforting to know that Thai Legend is part of its history of prosperity now. On any given weeknight or weekend, Thai Legend, always seem very busy, so it pays to order over the phone and then pick up your order later. We regularly order here at least 2 to 3 times a week and love their food so much, that once, when the owners decided to take a much deserved holiday to Thailand, and closed the shop for a few weeks, we were absolutely devastated and crushed. Like if we were in the old movie "A streetcar named desire", we'd have slumped dramatically to our knees, ripping open our t-shirts in the rain, yelling "SSTELLAAA!"...(in this case Stella is Thai Legend!) What do we love about Thai Legend? Firstly, the menu is quite extensive, with something for everyone. Divided into several sections. Entrees range in price fromm $1.20 to $7.50. Our favourites are the Thai Spring rolls, curry puffs, stuffed eggplant and crystal balls (which are steamed sago balls stuffed with minced chicken). The Budget Menu offers dishes below $13 and we have too many favourites to choose just one. Thai Legend also offers various Soups, and Salads, Curries, as well as the Stir Fried dishes (Chicken, Beef, and Pork). Our favourites are the Garlic Chicken and the Beef Basil. Then there's the seafood section and although more pricier, (the average being $14.50 and all under $20), there are a lot of really good dishes to choose from. We are always pleasantly surprised when we have ordered a seafood dish we haven't tried. Our favourites are the Choo Chee fish curry, Ginger Fish and Garlic fish. The Vegetarian selection is also quite good, when you want to have your fix of Stir fried mixed vegetables. Secondly, we love that Thai legend has great service. Everyone is friendly, and service is quick (considering how busy they get). They all work so hard, looking very tired, eyes bloodshot, but still manage to smile and strike up conversations with customers. We've only ever had positive experiences. Finally, the quality of the food,(including the portion sizes), for what you pay is very good value for money. Even the pricier seafood dishes that we've ordered, like the Choo Chee fish curry and Ginger fish have such unique flavours, that $14.50 isn't bad at all. At the end of the day, its all about tastes, flavours, a "je ne sais quoi" that gives one "joie de vivre", and Thai Legend certainly offers this in abundance. Thai Legend has become our "gold standard" by which other Asian takeaway shops are compared to, its simply just great!

Located in West End, Siam Samrarn shares a complex with a Coles, Gloria Jeans and other decent run of the mill chain stores. Now I know what you're thinking, 'how can this be a great restaurant if it doesn't have it's own building'. Let me reassure you though, Siam Samrarn is a diamond in the rough. The first time I went to Siam Samrarn was with my sister and mother one Thursday evening. All three of us were astounded by the quality of the Thai food as we anticipated something mediocre at best. What we discovered however was the chefs at Siam Samrarn know things that other Thai chefs need to find out because the food was absolutely sensational! In addition, the service staff was extremely hospitable, ensuring that our glasses were always filled as we discussed at length the culinary triumphs that were laid out before us - before inevitably moving on to a drunken analysis of the family, the world and the location of the bathroom. I was so impressed by Siam Samrarn that I decided to have my 21st birthday there. Once again the staff at Siam Samrarn went up and beyond what any of us anticipated. They were able to accommodate 30-40 wine guzzling university drama students, which I imagine is no easy feat. They were even kind enough to let us chat in their restaurant till well past 11, cleaning everything and anything around us before inevitably asking us to move on. I think it has become perfectly clear that I really do consider this restaurant one of Brisbane's best. Siam Samrarn is not only excellent value for money, but also an exciting adventure for any foodie. Despite the fact that it's exclusively counter service, and the fitout is tacky and garish, the food really does speak for itself. Over many visits, I've sampled a wide spread of their dishes, with my favourites being the penang curry, the sai grog e san (a zany little sausage full of flavour) and the pad thai which always pleases. The best thing about this place is that it's BYO (I think technically wine only but the number of times I've bought beers here and have had no issues is many) so it's an ideal stop in for dinner when heading out in the valley, or as a destination in itself. Definitely a must for anybody that would describe themselves as even a mild fan of Thai cuisine.

We had a tom yum prawn soup, som tum (green papaya salad) with seafood and a pad ped ka mhoo (stir fried pork leg in chilli paste) with a serve of sticky rice. The food was just sensational and it was a world away from our first visit. The staff were super friendly and helpful and BYO for $3.00 per head was a bonus!!
