Don't be fooled by Siam Samrarn's location, as I feel that in spite of appearances it is quite simply the best Thai restaurant I've been to in Brisbane. Located in West End, Siam Samrarn shares a complex with a Coles, Gloria Jeans and other decent run of the mill chain stores. Now I know what you're thinking, 'how can this be a great restaurant if it doesn't have it's own building'. Let me reassure you though, Siam Samrarn is a diamond in the rough. The first time I went to Siam Samrarn was with my sister and mother one Thursday evening. All three of us were astounded by the quality of the Thai food as we anticipated something mediocre at best. What we discovered however was the chefs at Siam Samrarn know things that other Thai chefs need to find out because the food was absolutely sensational! In addition, the service staff was extremely hospitable, ensuring that our glasses were always filled as we discussed at length the culinary triumphs that were laid out before us - before inevitably moving on to a drunken analysis of the family, the world and the location of the bathroom. I was so impressed by Siam Samrarn that I decided to have my 21st birthday there. Once again the staff at Siam Samrarn went up and beyond what any of us anticipated. They were able to accommodate 30-40 wine guzzling university drama students, which I imagine is no easy feat. They were even kind enough to let us chat in their restaurant till well past 11, cleaning everything and anything around us before inevitably asking us to move on. I think it has become perfectly clear that I really do consider this restaurant one of Brisbane's best. Siam Samrarn is not only excellent value for money, but also an exciting adventure for any foodie. Ultimately, hospitality for me comes down to the quality of the staff and the employees at Siam Samrarn are gentle, receptive, caring and courteous. Check it out. I had tried to eat here twice already, but without prevail - one, because of their location in West End, and two, because it's an overall decent restaurant. Because of those two things, Siam Samrarn is always booked out on weekends. Located in the Coles shopping centre complex (the market building) and claiming to be one of the best Thai in Brissy, has all the decor and furnishings you would expect a Thai restaurant to possess. I say this without feeling negatively about it, since they do have awesome booths for parties of six, and both indoor and outdoor seating. The only common complaint was that the chairs were heavy and rather uncomfortable after a while. As for the food... They have an extensive menu, so we took a while to decide, but finally settled on the Spring Rolls (7.5) for starters. They were fried perfectly and served with a sweet chili sauce in a boat! Presentation wasn't lacking, which is always a plus when the food isn't bad. We also went with the Pad Thai with beef (16.9), which was nothing out of the ordinary. The flavors seemed a little out of balance, though I can't quite elaborate, as I only took a few bites. Sadly enough, it wasn't as good as the Thai joint I frequented back in college. The Prawn Crispy Basil (20.9) looked more impressive, and in my opinion, was the best out of the three, with the bell peppers, mushrooms, and of course, the basil. The batter for the prawn was crisp and not overly fried, and my only complaint is that it was a bit salty. We also got their Gang Panang with chicken (17.9), a coconut curry with green beans and lime leaves. The curry was also just average - flavorful with fresh ingredients - but just average tasting. We had everything with the coconut rice, which was nice an fluffy. Overall, the meat in the curry and the pad thai were a bit dry, but otherwise, everything tasted fresh. The service was decent, and the food was served quickly. The food was nice and steamy, and wasn't lacking in presentation. A satisfactory experience, I must say. read more

I don't know West End very well but I'm glad I know this place. Its location may not be the most appealing, sharing a place with Coles and other shops. But the food is great there. I recommend trying out the green curry chicken and rice. I'm a big fan of green curry and this has to be one of the best I've had. Siam Samrarn does take away in case you don't particarly want to eat there. There's also a stir fried chilli chicken (not necessarily the actual name; I can't remember what it's called) that's quite tasty. All are reasonably priced and I do feel it's worth it. read more

So we sat down at a table for two. Then I got a call from friends saying they were heading out to dinner and would we like to come? Turns out they were coming to the restaurant we were already at (Convenient, right?). The staff were super helpful and let us switch to a bigger table. Siam Samrarn has my vote for best Thai in Brisbane (or West End, at least). Whenever I have a cold, I use it as my excuse to get a massive takeaway bowl of tom kha kai (chicken soup, yeah?) and suddenly my cold doesn't seem quite as bad as it was before said nourishment. I've also eaten in before at Siam Samrarn, one of the more memorable times being a surprise birthday dinner for a friend, where the restaurant was all too happy for us to decorate the table (one big long gallery-style one in the middle of the outdoor seating area) and managed our large order list fairly impressively. Finally, I was pretty stoked to find that the guy from the Thai place I used to frequent at my previous suburb of residence had changed jobs and now works at Siam Samrarn. He's the real deal and a total dude. Don't discredit this place because it's tacked on to a shopping centre, it's actually pretty darn great. read more

Brisbane, Australia! My husband and I love this place!!!! So- to start with it is super clean! The owner is wonderful and what we love is that he always remembers our Favorite things that we usually order...how nice is that??? It makes us feel so good... that people who really care to remember is and what we like. Whatever we eat is always fresh and delicious and my husband has now been there over 7 times, literally. To take out for us or he ate there. Not one time was it - off, nor hard to chew, nor over cooked etc... Every single time has been the delicious food we are used to Chicken with hummus with a salad called (Fattoush). .. Delicious! I will add a picture of the menu the next time we go. It's a new place in Crowfoot (NW) and we are so happy that we finally have one of our favourite type of food 10 minutes away. Its Meditaranian food - you can eat there or take out. It's also easy for my husband to eat there alone or take out when I'm not home or already ate - and easy to just stop for an easy fast healthy meal lunch or dinner.... Pick up means no cooking and yet it's not fattening, so it's great for all!! You've got to try it!! Oh the backlava is just sweet enough for sweet lovers or non sweet lovers. I love back- with lots of honey my husband doesn't like sweet but we were both happy as it was sweet enough for me yet not too sweet for him. You've got to try this place, it's fantastic. We have only eaten at the Crowfoot restaurant so this review is for the Pita Basket in NW! !! (Brisbane, Australia) Perfect portions, so delicious everytime we went. And we always sat outside- always perfect temperature, little breeze. The food....was so fresh, so many choices of Thai food... and every single dish was better than the last one. I'm writing this from Calgary, I'm so hungry it's 4:45am- I can't sleep and I am now starving... What I wouldn't give to be eating at that restaurant right now!!! We started going almost 3-4 nights a week. Once I saw my weight going up- I insisted on cuting down to 2-3 nights a week. They owners were so nice - we were always given a little extra, or a drink on the house. They were wonderful and the menu... was so extensive- so so many choices...ridiculous ( in a good way) however... It many times took us way too long to order. Now that we are back in Canada, this is one of the places I miss the most. A short walk from our place in a nice safe area... Always beautiful perfect temperature... Good food, but learning it's better to eat inside and keep in mind if you have a few friends going it's one bill per table which I personally find annoying. I've visited here about 5 times and today was the worst, i'm dining outside and it just smelled like a wet dog, discovered a nice tea I love to try on the menu, well not today I was told, no pineapple yet what do I find pineapple, then between the pigeon that jumped on my table 4 times and the flies , the dining experience was horrible. Food was good, dining was a let down. Better to sit inside next time. read more

My brother family and friends invited me over to the dinner. There is a variety of Thai specialty food and they taste great. We did enjoy the dishes especially the fried fish with green paw paw salad. Green Curry was also a top notch. The atmosphere is also vibrant and warm. After we finished our meals, while adults were having conversation, my two years old and five years old nieces started to explore around the restaurant but I followed them all the time to ensure they did not accidentally break anything or bumped into anyone. The manager approached me and said "During dinner time we have many customers and staff will be carrying around the food. So kids should not wander around and you need to take care of your own kids!" Those are the exact words that he said. To certain extent I agree to what he said about the safety issue, but I was extremely offended to be told to take care of my own kids which is exactly what I was doing at that instant. I didn't say anything back to him as I had to follow the kids at that time. As soon as I sent the kids back to the table, I went after the manger and explained that I am their aunt and I was looking after the kids all the time as he could see it. When he told me to take care of them it sounded like I was not taking care of them. Then, he asked where were the parents and said it was not my job but it was parents responsibility to take care of them. I almost yell at him at that point that it did not matter whose job it was. I was not happy to be told to take care of the kids while I was obviously doing the best I could. He kept on saying it was for safety reasons and arrogantly not acknowledging the fact that the way he delivered that message was extremely poor and offensive. His attitude towards parents is quite unsympathetic. He could have handled this situation way better. Overall, it is a sad truth that despite the great atmosphere and tasty food, the person who runs it ruined the whole experience. I will never miss this restaurant and will not recommend it to family with kids if you do not want them strapped down to the chairs. read more

I like how I can't get enough of this place. It has been pretty awful lately! Yet I took my friends there again, because the setting is nice and hoping the food would live up to expectations. I gave 2 stars because it is very inconsistent. It is definitely worth at least one visit. Don't go back again just for a curry. Relatively short wait but food temperature weren't hot enough to my liking. Som Tum Prawn Foo - this was the highlight of the whole meal, salad was refreshing and dressing was spot on. Soft Shell Crab curry stir fried (yellow curry sauce) - Crab has soaked up the curry, unfortunately the sauce was so, so sweet Chicken Massaman - The chicken was okay, but curry was way too sweet! Beef Red Gang Dang (red curry) - Beef was tender but again the sauce was a let down, it was bl**dy sweet (excuse the language)! OMG did you drop a whole bag of sugar in the pot? Great portions but the taste was horrendous. Service is decent, but then which Thai place isn't! Oh, I forgot one detail. Towards the end, we were rushed to leave. They kindly reminded us they were closing at 10, at least thrice! so we felt bad if we didn't leave. To be honest, even if the waiters know what meat/curry combo to suggest, I think the food fluctuate according to the Chef mood. Definitely not the King of Curries. All we could taste was SUGAR!! Most bizarre place ever! Made a reservation for 20 people and needed to pay in three groups, and they refused us service. For $30 a plate, they couldn't split the check three ways and refused to place our order. After the terrible service, we were hungry and decided to order out instead of finding another place, and the food wasn't even any good! Grossly over-priced, nasty food, and terrible service.
