Auttarote Thai Cuisine - Panang curry with chicken

    Auttarote Thai Cuisine

I visited Auttarote Thai Cuisine while on a business trip. I was told that this Thai restaurant has…read moresome truly authentic Thai food so I was excited to try it out. When I walked in, I was both skeptical and kind of in awe at the same time. It felt like I walked into a movie set or a Christmas themed museum or something. There are so many decorations up but it also kind of just works. The first thing I'll bring up is the spice level. The spice levels are pretty similar to the true Thai spice levels. A hot level was giving me a good sweat while medium was just enough to burn the tongue a bit. The food itself was adequately described as authentic and delicious. The papaya salad in particular was very similar to the ones I've tried in Thailand. Great portion size and ratio between papaya and the other vegetables. It was absolutely delicious. The other reason why this restaurant is awesome is the customer service. From when I walked in to when I left, the server and who seemed like the manager or owner made sure everyone there was taken care of and didn't have to wait long for anything. I will definitely come back here when I visit Calgary again!

Honestly, the outside (and even the…read morestreet) looked a little sketchy, but stepping inside was such a surprise--it felt almost like a speakeasy. The colorful décor gave the whole place a lively vibe. We didn't have a reservation, but since it was a Monday night, we were seated right away. As vegetarians who don't eat eggs or fish sauce, we were a little unsure about what we could order. When we asked, our waiter kindly brought out an entirely separate vegetarian menu, which was amazing. The spring rolls were absolutely delicious, but the massaman curry was a bit disappointing--it was watery and lacked flavor, though the portion size was generous. Overall, it was still a great experience, and I'd consider coming back to try other dishes.

Pad Thai Restaurant - Pad Thai (with chicken and shrimp)

And our expectations were met, and exceeded! Although it's located in a funny little strip plaza, once you enter this lovely restaurant you immediately know it's different and managed by professionals. We were very politely taken to our reserved table, which they had situated in a private nook. Very nice. For a first course (and appetizer), Linda had a Tom Kha Gai soup, small, which is chicken and mushrooms in coconut milk with herbs and Thai ginger. She didn't want to share with me, but told me how absolutely delicious it was. Full of flavours, nuanced and layered. In a soup! I had the Tom Yum Goong, small, which a Thai creamy style hot and sour soup with prawns and mushrooms. The mild, delicious Enoki mushrooms, sometimes called golden needle mushrooms, were an exciting addition to this wonderful soup. Hands down, this was the best Tom Yum Goong I've tasted since my friend Mai's restaurant in Oakville back in 1997. Dinner for Linda was a Green Curry. Of course! She'll order a green curry anywhere we go, anytime! Served with zucchini, broccoli and green beans, she said it was one of the best she's ever had. Strong layered flavours. For those who love curry (like Linda), she said this is the best anywhere. I had the Chu Chi Basa, which is a basa fillet (lots, actually) drizzled with a rich red curry sauce, and served on a bed of exceptional raw young spinach. This was absolutely delicious. All the distinct flavours were present and identifiable. The fish was delicious, crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside. I can't say enough good about this dinner and this restaurant. It's a bit out of the way, but easy to find. It deserves to be known by all Calgarians who love authentic Thai food. Presentation: 5/5. Had the Pad Thai, spice level was mild and just right. Dish sizes were plentiful and delicious. Served with Thai Iced Tea and topped off with a coconut ice cream for dessert (which I swear tasted home made, loved it).

Tuk Tuk Thai - Shrimp pad thai

    Tuk Tuk Thai

Tuk tuk ... a bit more like yuk yuk…read more This is a popular chain restaurant in Calgary. They had a BOGO special on uber eats so i thought it was worth a try , since I LOVE Thai food. Sadly, this met my expectations for a cheap fast food place. The prices were quite cheap, but that's because the portions are small and 90% carb. Little to no veg (1 spoon of salad) and 2 spoonfuls of protein. Their food doesn't even have any spice in it, nor an option to add spice. This is THAI cuisine! It's like making Korean food without Gochujang or Gochugaru... The pad thai was way too saucy and sweet. The crying tiger beef lacked flavour and was so dry/overcooked, it was like jerky. We finished the pad thai, but my partner literally threw out the crying tiger. We hate to waste food and beef is his favourite thing to eat. Overall, I wouldn't reccomend tuktuk unless you're looking for a cheap and quick fix to a thai craving and don't feel like cooking.

At first, it didn't look like a lot but once you start eating; it is very filling. Dine in is allowed and the outlet is clean and sanitary. The young lady who took my order was helpful in making my selection. It was a good choice. I will definitely be eating more at Tuk Tuk Thai. My order came pretty quickly within 15-20 minutes. They have different types of Appetizers, Lotus Boxes with rice or noodles, soups and desserts. I have no problem recommending this location.
