Drunken Noodles
Romeo L.

Our ROMEO group of 8 were here for the first time today at lunch. Arrived at 11:25 and there were two customers in the front room. We took a table for 8 on the left side room. The first thing I noticed was the floor must've just been cleaned as some of it looked a bit wet and. had a sort of cleaning smell to the room, which passed shortly after we arrived. They had just opened at 10:30. A waiter came by and took our drink orders (mostly Thai Tea and a couple of waters). The tea was good...first time for many of us, very sweet with a bit of a coconut taste it seemed. None of us were sure of what to order (the waiter recommended Pad Thai) but we each ordered pretty much something different for everyone. The selection is quite large with choices of protein, spice levels, salads, stir-fry, starters and special entrees. After he took our order it must've been a good 35-45 minutes for our orders to come out. The waiter brought out two orders, went back and brought out three more orders. At that time two guys came in and sat down in the room and he went over and took their orders...Came back and gave them their drinks....and then went back to the kitchen and brought out two more orders for us. I still hadn't received my order and a few minutes later he came out with it. I'd ordered a Garb Lai salad but not sure what he'd given me. I took a couple of bites and one of the guys asked if that was the salad I ordered. I told them I didn't question it but after looking at it I could see it didn't look like the salad that was described on the menu. A few minutes after that a girl came to the table with another dish (which looked like a salad!)...turns out it was my order. She said to just keep the order they'd brought me and left my real order. I must say all the guys enjoyed the food. Two of our group ordered a spice level of 4 and it was very good and had great spice. They do like spice and said it was good and they wouldn't order a 5 anytime. I'm not sure what level of spice my order had but it had a very nice spice and taste to it. It was pork with a lot of good veggies and a large amount of jasmine rice. The only issue I had (and also one other of us) was that there was a couple of pieces of fat mixed in with the pork. The waiter never once came back during our meal to check on our drinks. This was an issue because we had been there so long and also with the spicier food most of us needed a refill. He did finally ask us (after we were done eating) if we needed a refill and 6 of us ordered water, as he said they were out of tea. Bottom line is that the food had good taste but the service was very slow. We finished eating around 2 hours after we walked in. They don't have any lunch menus, only one menu for dinner. It seems to be more of a dinner type restaurant based on the menu and they do serve out of nice plates and regular silverware. Our rating for the 8 of us was a 3.9 and we may not visit again due to the length of time to get our meal and the service.

Pad Kee Mao(Drunken Noodles)

I ordered the drunken noodles. Spice level two extra noodles really good very flavorful and filling. Highly recommend this place. Give it a try.

This restaurant was recommended by a coworker. Upon entry, the establishment was welcoming, clean and we were greeted upon arrival. The servers were nice and the owners daughter explained to menus to us. Even though I normally go for fish or seafood dishes I went with the pork because the server suggested it. my partner got the pad tie and we got one of our usuals papaya salad. The kor moo yang "pork "was very pleasant and tender however, I feel it was missing a little more flavor. I wasn't really picking up any fish sauce, cilantro, garlic, or anything out of the marinade other than the sweetness. However, the dipping sauce did help correct that issue a little the pad. Thai was good as well however it was a little sweet papaya salad was phenomenal and truly authentic. We also ordered a mango sagoo to go. On the menu it is advertised with fresh mango on top however, we were advised that it's already blended within the mixture. I am a visual eater first so if that is what is shown on the menu, the item needs to reflect it. We were able to get the mango added and some coconut cream. That was the best dessert I've ever had. It was phenomenal and I will be back and time to order it all in all everything was great. Next time. I will most likely try the tilapia or the boat noodles, but we will be back.

I had the Pad Thai with 0 spice level and it was delicious. The Mango Sagoo and Mango Sticky Rice were great for dessert! Had a taste of my friend's Mango Coconut Shake and it was excellent. Very friendly, helpful, courteous staff. The food was delivered in a very timely manner. Wonderful addition to the West Columbia restaurant choices. Authentic Thailand food!

The atmosphere was amazing, a cozy quaint spot in a what seemed to be a great part of the city. The bar was nice and overall decor of the restaurant was eclectic without feeling overdone. Our server (I believe her name was Havvy), was pleasant as well. We started with the crab rangoons and spring rolls. The crab rangoons were a 10/10, and the spring rolls were solid as well. I'd definitely order both again. I ordered the pad kapow, which is my go-to dish I like to start with at any new Thai restaurant. The presentation of the rice was really cute and the dish itself was rich and full of flavor. My husband ordered the pineapple fried rice with beef, it was phenomenal, just as flavorful and satisfying. We ordered cocktails as well, which were made perfectly, and since it was our anniversary, we treated ourself to the coconut cake. After the first bite, I wasn't sure about the cake, but by the second bite I was SOLD. If you're looking for a laidback, non-pretentious spot to enjoy a great meal, cocktails or even just a small bite, I definitely recommend.

Pros: - Fair prices (it is considered "fancier") - Fun cocktails - Food was great - Seating was nice and spaced out (not super close to anyone) - Cons: - Food Menu was typical for Thai I'd overall recommend KAO. It's in a great location for downtown (super close to the beginning of mainstreet) and it's a fun little date night. I had the drunken noodles with chicken and my date had shrimp/chicken padthai. They were both really solid. Not like...amazingly phenomenal, but a really tasty dinner. I recently went to 929 and was glad to not be sitting right beside someone. It was nice to be able to have a conversation without hearing other people's.

I made a reservation at Baan Sawan Thai Bistro at 8 for Valentine's Day after hearing good things…read moreabout it. We were confused when we arrived because it was more like a house than a restaurant, but the interior was nicely designed like a small Thai restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and I ordered the shrimp tom yum soup and fried tofu pad thai, while my partner ordered the three flavored duck. The tom yum soup came out and it was lackluster. The flavor wasn't bad, but it wasn't as sour or flavorful as other tom yum soups I've had. There were maybe 2-3 baby shrimp in the bowl and they were overcooked and rubbery. After the soup, it took forever for our food to come out, close to 35 minutes. When our food finally came out, the duck plate was beautiful and I was surprised to see wide noodles with the pad thai. The flavor of the noodle itself was good but a little dry, and you could tell that the fried tofu had been pre-made and was just sitting out. It was not warm or crispy and I was disappointed after having to wait that long. Although the duck was delicious! To top it off, our server took soooo long to attend to us. We would see her talking at the bar with other customers while waiting to get a to-go box, waiting to get our check, and then waiting to pay our check. We were there for an unnecessarily long time and it made our patience wear thing. The food was good but not the best. Service was terrible so we probably won't be coming back.

I am extremely sad to write this review as Thai food is my…read morefavorite cuisine, and after having Thai street food on the streets & in the markets of Chaing Mai & Chaing Rai- I was HOOKED! The 4 main flavors of Thai cuisine are sweet, salty, sour & spicy, and the balance of each component, along with the texture- makes for an explosion in your mouth. We weren't expecting the food to taste the same, knowing that many restaurants & vendors change their food to cater to the American palette, but we expected the food to be good. The line was long, and we were excited while we waited. I spoke to 6 or 7 people in line, but they were all newbies like us. I noticed that some of the food looked as if it had been sitting under the heat lamps for a while (the fried chicken & the sad looking calamari that Joel thought were onion rings!) so we bypassed those altogether- knowing that the Thai have some of the best chicken wings in the world. Seriously! Look it up. We ordered: Pork belly fried rice: Joel said the pork was just okay & the fried rice didn't taste Thai at all. Veggie spring rolls: full of veggies - but were salty, lacked texture, and the chili sauce fell completely flat. Chicken pad Thai w/ medium spice: taste like sugar. Not tamarind, not spice, just sweet sugar. I always ask for extra lime & bean sprouts because I love the extra sour kick of the lime & the crunch of the bean sprouts, but I was only able to eat 2 bites because it was horrible, I felt like my blood sugar was going to go thru the roof! Thai iced coffee: horrible. I don't understand how they could even imagine calling this coffee. Unfortunately, this has been the worst meal we've had in Columbia so far, and I'm deeply sad because although it's street food, we expected it to be one of our best meals. And to the business owners, please do not reply with a comment stating how many people line up at your food stall every Saturday. They're probably new rather than repeat customers, or maybe they don't know what authentic Thai food should taste like. So please, I'm begging you, give us the food that you all cook in your kitchens at home, the food that you feed your own families. I promise, the people will love it!

Each time I come here I get the 3 pork buns ($12). They're delicious. They melt in your mouth with the marinated meat and soft dough. They're steamed and you receive them piping hot. Three is the perfect amount, as it leaves me full until lunch every time. I also love their boba, milk tea, and Korean corn dogs. The corn dog is nice and crispy, and always has a delicious flavor. I recently introduced my boyfriend to this place and he's been hooked ever since! There's a reason this place always has a line. Back when I first started coming, they'd be sold out of the steamed buns by 11am, and the market closes at 1!
