OMG you guuuuuuys! Today was the day! After being taunted by both the visual delight of the bright…read morecart, and the word of every person that has ever been, I finally got myself down there to see what the fuss was about. Just fish and bread? Could it really be that good? Well, yes actually. The answer is yes. Quite literally a little street peddling cart, the Seafood Peddler offers just a few simple items - fish in bread, octopus in bread, octopus tentacle or if you can't choose between fish or octopus - a seafood scramble of them both. $10 each or $8 for the smaller scramble option. Being indecisive and wanting to reduce the carb intake, I got the scramble which is only on a single piece of turkish bread. He asked if I wanted chilli on that. I refrained from screaming "YES, GIVE ME ALL THE CHILLI!!!" because I wanted to see how they typically serve it. After a little wait (these guys are insanely popular), I finally got my bread with a delicious mix of cuttlefish, octopus, lettuce and chilli. It was so flavoursome. Eyes rolling into my head flavoursome. The chilli amount was perfect for my spice-loving tastes, leaving a strong lingering kick that had me craving a big cold beer to wash it down with. They forgot my serviette, but watching my red chilli-oil covered hands struggling with my stuff, some friendly folk at the next table came to my aid with some spares. Because food this good makes people neighbourly and awesome. These chaps had beer too, which I suspect you can order from the adjoining Claypots restaurant in front of the stall. If you're visiting the market, bring your $10 and join the queue for this. Thank me later.

Typically there are just a few choices, fish or octopus, on bread or as a salad. Pick any and you'll be fine, but if you like octopus I recommend the octopus sandwich. A perfectly grilled, tender and sweet tentacle, sliced and served on a buttered and lightly toasted ciabatta roll, with chilli, greens and a squeeze lemon. It's light, simple and flawless. Sit down right there and enjoy it al fresco as you get in some quality people watching time.

What a great way to start the morning. I Decided to go for a stroll and ended up at the market and…read morespent a good chunk of time then walked out with a bag of groceries. Reasonably priced and a great selection of products. If you ever want to prepare a meal, there's great selection.. Market city coffee was fantastic, bought some cheeses, and picked up a borek pastry. Market is separated into different buildings. Seafood, deli and meats, and I didn't get to walk to the produce section. I stopped in at nine, but according to Google, it opens at six. In a shopper. Really great lively atmosphere with lots of people and the large downtown buildings in the backdrop of the market were beautiful! There was a great fruit and vegetable selection - I choose a few different fruit options to take back to my hotel later to enjoy. I LOVE mangosteen but it's hard to get fresh ones in the US so was super stoked to see those available! The indoor section with cheeses, meat and seafood was also super impressive! I snacked on some lobster and oysters then went outside and had some sugarcane juice and the BEST MUSSELS I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. Such a great day at this market!!

Located on 50 Rose Street in Fitzroy, the store's close proximity to the Rose Street Artist Market is a boon to it's existence. Sharing a space with Mottanai Vintage Cycle keeps things interesting. Perusing vintage bikes while waiting for your meal puts an ironic spin on things, given that many people in India ride old and rusty bikes too. The furniture is albeit low, but well put together. Old milk crates double up as tables while short stools dot the space in abundance. My friend and I shared 2 Dosas, one filled with masala potatoes and the other filled with smokey eggplant. The crisp dough made of fermented rice and lentil batter had a hint of acidity to it. Also, there are lentil poppers which make for a good snack. That being said, the star of the show is the wide range of chutneys. I would recommend getting the hot chili one if you are not afraid of pain. At this price point ($9), these guys are over-providing. The treats are both vegan and gluten-free too. What are you waiting for?

For those not in the know dosas are very thin crepes traditionally filled with spiced potato. Overdosa's menu is simple offering potato masala, spiced pumpkin or eggplant filling. Your dosa also comes with either a coconut or hot chilli chutney. You can also order poppers which are delicious fried lentil balls. We had the potato masala and the poppers with coconut chutney. I'm no expert but my companion who is Indian rated them very highly. They are hot fast and delicious. He devoured the poppers so quickly I only managed a couple. All the options here are vegan and although I am a sworn carnivore I can say that it was so tasty it didn't matter. The guys are super friendly and really keen to hear what you think of their food and have a chat. They will be at the Evelyn on Brunswick st over Anzac weekend and then they fly to India to spend a few months collecting recipes to expand their offerings and possibly open a restaurant. If you are in the mood for Indian I highly recommend checking them out.
