The best that Austin has to offer‼ Banked Track Roller derby is entertaining, hard hitting, and action packed.

    They are fasssst!

Hell on wheels. That is what comes to mind as I watch some of the toughest women in Austin strap on roller skates and fly around a banked track in a controlled chaos. This ain't no Disney on Ice. Here you might might draw blood, will likely get an elbow to the ribs and can count on finding yourself face to face with the track surface. Although sometimes hosted at the Austin Convention Center, the home of the TXRD is the Palmer Event Center with space to seat a few thousand. Like just about anywhere in Austin, you will find a broad mix of fans. Live music performances fill the air prior to the bout and at halftime. There are multiple full bars to wet your whistle. The TXRD is a skater owned organization and it is obviously in the best interests of the skaters to put on a crowd pleasing show and gain faithful fans. However, there is not a sense of a choreographed routine, even among friends there is some serious competition going on here with more than just pride on the line.

Fun time, must do, one time! Take great company with you because it get's really boring after the first round. At least you'll have someone to talk to. Although can get loud so great for holding hands and not talking to a good looking new guy you are dating. It's not as fast as that movie whip it leads you to believe. The concession stand is full of greasy food and expensive $4 bottled water. This event is really too expensive $15 + $7 parking + food/drinks makes it really pricey for more than one person. The girls are awesome and it's something you just have to do if you're in Austin.

I went to opening night on the 10th anniversary and it was a blast - I took two of my daughters (11 and 9) and they thought it was the coolest thing. One important tip - since it's general admission, get there early. We arrived around 30 minutes before the start time and had to stand.

For the price (you can buy any seat, just can't sit in them) it is well worth it. The parking is an additional $15 on top of ticket prices but for around $45 all in for the two of us plus our dog, the value was great. When you arrive at the park you pay for parking via workers with a mobile payment processor. There are a lot of parking options for all sizes of cars. Since we were doing Bark In The Park we were asked to park at the Right Field Gate parking which was no hassle. Getting into the park is very smooth, short lines and quick workers make sure it all flows well. Once in you are greeted by a very pretty and clean ballpark with a great outfield lawn area. When you have dogs you are asked to stay on the outfield lawn area which is no issue, but do be prepared to have a struggle finding a good spot to sit as other dog owners fill in. Lining the atrium in left field were a number of dog vendors offering treats, bandanas, etc which is another big plus. The whole park is very nice and intimate giving that true minor league ballpark feel. We also snagged some free beer samples and food including churros, shave ice, and a corn dog. All were reasonably priced and pretty tasty for stadium food, can't say anything bad about it. Before we left we stopped by the team store to grab some merch since we decided we'd be coming a few more times this year. The merch can be pricier but that's pretty much par for most sports merch spots. We would highly, highly recommend anyone with a dog in the Austin area come check this out. It's a perfect summer outing for any furry friend and their owner.

Since the San Antonio Spurs are my favorite NBA team, the Austin Spurs are my favorite G League team by default (or at least one of them). Since moving to Austin in 2005, the Spurs (originally known as the Austin Toros from 2005 to 2014) have been pretty successful too. They won G League championship in 2012 and 2018. In 2012, the NBA G League was known as the NBA D-League. The 2012 championship team was coached by Brad Jones. The 2018 championship team was coached by Blake Ahearn. Coincidentally, at the time of writing this review, both Jones and Ahern are assistant coaches with the Memphis Grizzlies. A couple other notable former Toros/Spurs coaches include three-time NBA champion and 1979 NBA Finals MVP Dennis Johnson (2005-2007) and current Utah Jazz head coach Quin Snyder (2007-2010). The Toros' Justin Dentmon was the regular season league MVP for the 2011-12 season (the team's first championship season). Dentmon appeared in two games for the San Antonio Spurs that season, but totaled only eight NBA appearances. He's gone on to play for numerous pro teams around the world including Israel, where he was a top scorer, and China. The Spurs' Nick Johnson was the G League Finals MVP in 2018. He was originally drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 42nd overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft. He played sparingly for the Rockets during the 2014-15 season including nine appearances in the 2015 NBA playoffs. Ultimately, he never panned out in the NBA and has since suited up for another G League team (Wisconsin Herd) as well as teams in Europe. Many significant San Antonio Spurs players have spent time with the Austin Toros/Spurs. They include Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans, DeJuan Blair, Bryn Forbes, Danny Green, Cory Joseph, Dejounte Murray, and Lonnie Walker IV. Boban Marjanovic also played for the Spurs during the 2015-16 season. As a Wake Forest fan, I have to mention that 2003 ACC Player of the Year and 2007 NBA All-Star Josh Howard played for the Austin Toros after his last year in the NBA (2012). This franchise was one of the original eight members during the league's inaugural season in 2001-02. The league was then known as the National Basketball Development League (NBDL). The team was then known the Columbus Riverdragons of Columbus, Georgia. The Riverdragons lasted four seasons in Columbus before being purchased and relocated to Austin in 2005 (as mentioned above).

The chairs are designed to not be hot, which worked. * It was a breeze to get in the stadium, even with the Seatgeek app not being easy to use. The ticket takers said they have issues with the Seatgeek app all of the time and just waved us in. * The food options are unique and local. Sure, they were a bit pricey but so is a hot dog at Cowboys Stadium. It was nice to have the local restaurant options in a pro sports stadium. The bad: * Parking situation was not thought through by stadium mgmt. They were way understaffed for fans with parking passes, which made getting into the parking lots take forever. * The food options were good, but the quality of the food was subpar. They need to use the cooks/staff from those restaurants (not hospitality workers from Levy) to prepare & serve the food - as then it will match the quality expected. * The games start so late (8pm) due to heat that a lot of the crowd started to leave midway through the second half. * They are overcharging for their tickets. I get this is their inaugural year, but the prices were much higher than what you would pay at another, comparable pro sporting event. The seats they listed for sale, that I guess did not sell to season ticket holders, had crazy high face values like $350+. They need to charge a reasonable price to attend, if they want fans to come out multiple times per year. * I hate to complain about the action on the field, but I hope the owners get serious about getting some players who will help the team score goals and be competitive. I will go back and think they are on verge of a good thing - but they need to get some of these issues cleaned up to make this team a mainstay in Austin.

This club deserves no stars…read more The most despicable coaching/training club sport experience my family has endured. We are coaches. One of us works in education. Our children have trained and competed at high levels in multiple sports. Our children have a decade between the oldest and the youngest. We have a great many years of both professional and personal experiences. This trainer and this club is to be avoided at all costs! This coaching/training was nothing short of emotional child abuse. All information that is available to parents as it pertains to negative coaching environments were epitomized by the coach/owner. This club formed one 13's team spring 2011. He put a 14's team together to accommodate three 14's by taking from his 13's team and late adding two 12 year olds. This gave the club 2 teams total Spring 2011. He rarely played the two 12 year olds!! We have no idea what their parents were thinking. He used the 12 year olds as whipping posts when he threatened other players with coming off the court. In one match he yelled to a player on the court "do you want to come off and have me put her in, (referencing one of the 12 year olds.) then we will lose for sure!" USA Volleyball Lonestar Region should not be allowing this guy to be in business. Once a decision was arrived at for this child to play club, this club was the only club in our area with openings. We now see why. Training sessions were 3 hours long on Sunday with little break & two hours on Tuesdays. The fitness was good. The sessions mostly consisted of the director smashing balls at players at about 95 miles an hour and sending them to do push ups or some other punishment when they could not get to them. No breaking down and exampling of skills. He did not teach an approach hitting, setting, serving and does not believe in teaching blocking at this age. No small sided games or real game scenario during training. Bump, set, hit was to be avoided at all costs. If players attempted this during competition they were berated and yanked off the court. He promoted sending the ball over without setting it to catch the other team off guard? Players were not taught rotation and then yelled at during competition when they didn't know what to do. His accent was impossible for most of them to understand. This coach would fight with referees and the coaches of the other teams. Yank players on and off the court sometimes literally minutes at a time. He believed that if the players did not cry they were being disrespectful? Once during competition he called a time out and told the team to get on the floor and start doing roll backs in front of the opposing team, fans and parents. USA Volleyball Lonestar Region should not be allowing him to coach players for this one stunt alone. He yanked players off the court if they served with too much power. Even after putting 10 points on the board because he wanted them to short serve it screaming "to much power!" These antics from the sidelines would break the team's concentration and erode away at their confidence and self esteem. This club does not do the Lonestar Classic. Played average to below average tournaments, but had to travel to New Orleans. The director is fond of New Orleans what a deal. There is no need for lower level teams to travel out of state. Tournaments were placed on the scheduled that neither team were registered for. This is not sour grapes. Our player was not as abused as others and played most all matches seldom coming off, He would pick some girls over and over. We did a little research on the club prior to committing. We were not able to find any reviews. We are sure some parents just move on. we would've appreciated knowing what others experienced at this club versus the testimonials on his own web site. Surely, he didn't just become this way. Another reason we were not able to make a better informed choice is that most of this guys credentials are from out of the country? Please, do not subject your child to this environment. He is very good at telling you what you want to hear until he gets your child and your money. Place your child with a good program that is positive and developmental and would never scream, yell, degrade, insult, berate and humiliate your child. This is against all USA Volleyball rules yet this guy has engaged in these activities at tournaments and still has a club. We are sure most parent choose to cut their losses and move on not wanting to identify themselves, their player or represent their child's club experience for what it was. We are happy to answer any inquiries regarding this club and director. We strongly believe this guy should not be allowed to be in business. Please feel free to email.

It includes two tickets in a semi private area, a parking pass, two alcoholic drinks each, unlimited non alcoholic beverages, and a full buffet. The view was unobstructed and excellent. There is an elevator that takes you directly to the correct level, which makes access easy. The bathrooms were clean, close by, and had no lines. The dedicated area for food and drinks meant we avoided the long bar lines, which was a big plus. The buffet included salad, vegetables, mashed potatoes, chicken, carved beef, rolls, and desserts. The line moved quickly and the food was enjoyable. The Good While the food was solid, the seating area does not include tables to place your food or drinks. The seats did not appear to be larger than standard seating and there is no additional legroom. (I'm 5'10") That was a bit surprising for a premium package. Although the view was unobstructed, the venue could benefit from additional jumbo screens placed around the arena. The main screen could also be zoomed in more to enhance the experience. The Bad The sound quality was the most disappointing part of the night. The music was too loud and at times you could not hear the artists clearly. Both Anthony Hamilton and Fantasia are powerhouse vocalists who do not need heavy production. Instead of clear, crisp voice isolation, they sounded muffled. After multiple audience complaints, the sound improved, but it was distracting and took away from the experience. The package also advertised dedicated guest services and event staff support. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We could not find anyone to help us locate our seats or answer questions. The only visible staff were those managing the buffet and the check in area. For a premium experience, that was frustrating. Overall Despite the issues, I had a great time with my friend and we truly enjoyed the concert. I would consider using the All In Premium Loge Package again, but with adjusted expectations. Tips * Avoid the main entrance and use a secondary entrance for quicker entry. * If you do not have a bag, use the express line. (We had small clear bags and were allowed to use th express lane) * Download your tickets to your wallet before you get to the event. * The highway exit for the event can feel chaotic with heavy traffic and aggressive drivers. Consider driving past the first entrance and heading to the second exit. * Take your time after the event to avoid the traffic jam. All in all, it was a fun night. With a few operational improvements, especially around sound quality and guest services, the experience could move from good to great.
