What happened to hockey around here? Stars games used to be the rowdy fun that hockey should be--fans pounding on the glass, beer and peanuts and hot dogs, and a fair amount of scuffles on the ice. Now they have a wine bar, a buffet dinner, the fans were quiet and reserved, and there was not even a harsh word exchanged on the ice the entire game. And they lost, which is nothing new. I'm wondering if some suit in the management office decided they could make more money by "appealing to higher class level of fans". read more

What a great way to get your hockey fix without breaking the bank. The TX Stars are the feeder team for the Dallas Stars so who knows you may be watching the next Jamie Benn. The HEB center is a cozy venue to catch a game. There is really not a bad seat in the house. I love the fact that it's family friendly and the staff goes out of their way to ensure everyone has a great time. Parking is free for Stars games. We usually score freebie tix but when purchasing a ticket I usually just buy the cheapest and move around. There are plenty of open seats especially if you go on a week night when school is in session. Food and beverage options are a plenty. You can order a Miller Lite or a local craft beer. I usually spend a period up top in one of the cozy bars. It's mostly standing room but it gives you a great perspective of the on ice action. Pro tip: Dress warm even if it is 90 degrees outside it's cool/cold inside. read more

Bring a Light jacket its a little chilly. This should be obvious..... But I'm a TEXAN so this hockey stuff is foreign to me. The venue was nice and the game was truly fun. My lady and I were both pleasantly surprised. Free ticket not needed we think we will be back anyway. The only downside is 10 bucks to park. Hockey brings out the bloodlust in us all! Where else can you yell "fuck you ref!" or cheer on fighting players and it be socially acceptable? The crowd is great and the little games/contests throughout the game are hilarious and actually fun without being too cheese-ball. We had SUCH a good time at the Texas Stars game! The Texas Stars are the best piece of home I could ask for here in Austin....i mean Cedar Park. The only reason I can't give these guys 5 stars is because they play on the other side of the planet from this South Austinite.... That being said, everything else about the Stars is a 5-star experience. I made the trek to see the Stars play 6 times this past season. Was not disappointed once. The play in the American Hockey League, which is just one below the NHL (think Round Rock Express' relationship to the Astros). They are the farm club for the Dallas Stars. The quality of hockey talent in the AHL is excellent. You get guys coming up and down from the NHL all the time, so you're seeing real pros at work. The talent of this team is obvious. They made it to the CAlder Cup Finals this year in the team's FIRST year in existence. That's like if a new expansion baseball team made it to the World Series in its first year. The ownership of the Stars did it right from the very start. The Cedar Park Center, where they play, is a first-rate arena . Not a bad seat in the house, and you can see a game for $16 a ticket! If you can get a group together, you can get that same ticket for $14. If you are able to go on a weeknight, they have plenty of those "family of 4" packages which make it even cheaper. On Friday nights, they have $2 draft beers and $1 hot dogs. They really try to make it affordable to go. The fans are cool as heck too. Tons of expatriates from the great white North are there, wearing their favorite team's jersey (Don and I are there with our Sabres gear....saw plenty of Flyers, Bruins, and Red Wings fans too.) The fans really rally for the team--there's always a good crowd and I think the last game I went to, which was the last home game of the year in the Calder Cup finals, had over 7,000 people there. My husband and I are really looking forward to going to tons of games next season, which I believe starts in October. We'll just have to set aside extra money for the gas to drive up to Cedar Park.... read more

GO Stars! Now this is a fun thing to do in Cedar Park. I am now a season ticket holder and I am loving it! So, if you are kid-free it is fun to sit near the rowdy crowds and heckle the other team. They have decent beers, just dont go to the normal food lines, go to the carts. Also, food is good but again search beyond the first concession. They have smokey mo's which is amazing. If you have kids no fear, a lot of people bring there kids and the kids love it and people really do try and be respectful. The staff is very nice and helpful as well. Sometimes H-E-B gives you a coupon for free tickets on wednesday nights and those are cool because if the Stars win you can get two more free tickets! So if you want to have fun in Cedar Park this is the place to be! read more

Considering I can't catch my Blackhawks live, that I wont pay 300$ to see the Dallas stars, this is the next best thing. They are always talented and usually win the game. I have only seen loses on last second goals or OT goals. The atmosphere is always great and there are many sell outs. They usually have some type of giveaway, and have 3$ beer night often. This is definitely one of my favorite attractions about Austin besides all the music. I've been to at least 20+ games and have enjoyed all of them and I look forward to going to many more read more

Took my kids to their first hockey game this January. We bought tickets at the window and got the family pack which was a great deal. 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, 4 drinks. The hot dog was standard grade stuff. There doesn't seem to be a bad seat in the house. Ticket prices were very good. If you have the option, buy your tickets at the box office and save on the Ticketmaster fees which are pretty steep. The game was exciting. My kids went home wondering when the next game was. We definitely loved it and we will be going back. The kids did chores and earned money and had enough to by some of the lower priced items (cotton candy, trading cards, hockey puck). Parking is $10. Getting to the game was easy. Leaving afterward was a little more difficult as traffic was very congested for two to three lights. I'd like their gear prices to come down a little. The Stars have been pushing a couple promotional nights that make us reminisce on the good old days (Back to the Future Night), taught kids that any day you can be a super hero (Super Heroes Night), wanted to recognize our best friends we have in life (bring your dog to the hockey rink day) to always supporting and thank your soldiers for their courage and bravery (military appreciation days). Besides the in game entertainment and the team itself, the arena has improved on their food and beverage stations, now serving tastier items and also have some sweet deals. Checked out the Texas Stars for the first time! We scored discounted tickets through our son's Cub Scouts event. We scored seats near the goalie. The view was perfect - we could see both ends of the rink perfectly. Seats were comfy too! So glad there was an actual pad vs. a flat plastic seat. The music during the breaks were VERY loud and at times we couldn't even talk to each other. I'm guessing the loud music appealed to those who were drinking... The food options were pretty good. We opted for Pizza Hut, Popcorn and Cotton Candy. Unfortunately the food carts only take cash. That was disappointing! The pepperoni pizza was pretty good! The staff was nice and helpful. An great venue that is large, but not too big to where you feel disconnected from the action. The layout was good and it didn't seem to have a bad seat in the house. The seats, at least close to the glass seemed a little narrow, and if you had a larger person next to you you'd probably be pretty squished. The vendors could also use a huge help in the beer department, not a single craft or local brew, nothing but national brands. i was a victim of the Bait and Switch scam the Texas Stars are currently running. I won a pair of tickets in a raffle and was excited to check out the Stars. However, rather than have seats for a game, it was a voucher that expired within a month. The voucher stated that the seats were contingent on availability, so I checked to see how many seats were available before making the drive. It looked like plenty of good seats at the Executive Level were available, so I planned to arrive early to ensure just in case it somehow sold out. I lined up a babysitter and was on my way to becoming a Texas Stars fan. I grew up in the North and always loved watching hockey. After driving all the way out to Cedar Park, I was first greeted with a $10 fee to park. A bit of a gouge, but with free tickets, I can't complain too much. When I made it to the ticketing line, it seemed quite a few other people had gotten similar vouchers. However, the vouchers were being refused. The event was far from sold out, since we were instructed to buy tickets rather than use our vouchers. I saw several parents with their children upset that they were all ready for hockey, yet were denied entry unless they purchased tickets. After finding someone who looked to have some authority, we were told that our only option was to purchase tickets, or come back for the last game of the year. Would we be able to get tickets then? He said "probably". The one positive thing left was I was able to get a refund on my parking. However, I was still out my time, the tolls to get there, gas money, and a babysitter. They were banking on enough people with those sunk costs to just buy tickets after being stuck. Rather than using the vouchers as a promotional tool, the Stars have ensured I will never come to another game. I refuse to support such a poorly run franchise that just finds any way it can to gouge its fans. After seeing the reactions of the other potential fans turned away, I'm sure I'm not the only one. read more

Not a bad seat in the house - $44 for four tickets, four hot dogs and four 12 oz sodas. I spent another $10 on parking, and another $12.75 on popcorn and one beer. Not bad. I've never watched ice hockey and enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. My six year old was ready to go sit in the car by the 3rd period. It as getting late and she was on sensory overload.
