After a very distasteful experience at another haunted house last year & with this being an hour from me, I was apprehensive. I of course read a handful of reviews that gave me the push & I am so glad I did. This will definitely be somewhere I go again next year. I love getting scared & used to frequent halloween horror nights, so I can say with confidence all of the houses were scary! You can tell effort & thought was put into each house, plus a sufficient amount of actors in each one that what made it so fun! I was impressed with the level of professionalism each ticket attendant had, with a smile on their face. Rather than having us enter with multiple parties in line, it was done individually so allows to have a more tailored experience w.o it being ruined in front of you & having people up your butt behind rushing you (that drives me crazy & is so insanely rude). With that said, the line does go much slower, so I ended up adding on the fast pass right there at the kiosk, which was well worth it. I was alone so the first house I was getting bored waiting lol. Parking was easy, & even though it was off the beaten path, didn't feel sketchy driving there at night. Even the porta potties were clean & maintained. One thing I would ask to improve is adding tables to sit. Can't wait to go back! read more

This place was awesome! The actors were roaming and interactive on the grounds as soon as you walk in and while waiting for experiences. There were 3 experiences to walk through and the lines to get in were very reasonable. The system they have to give your group the time and space to get through and explore works well. They are very creative with all of the decorations. there are different themes to each "house" but also some variety in what you see. Some were more jump scare, but there was also something to be said about the creepy level and possible psychological commentary to be made. There are also vendors here, and I enjoyed perusing that. there is enough uniqueness across the vendors that they aren't all selling the same thing. Come in costume! there's photo opportunities. Oh and I loved the live band "Bone" So much fun dancing. could hear them from all over the grounds, but wasn't too loud if you right next to them. good job sound team! read more

For a first time it was a decent experience. The houses were really the only thing to do and they were good. Our Kids liked it for sure. Food and drinks were surprisingly a decent price. My only concern on the whole thing was: On the main house there's a stairs going down and it's nearly pitch black and if you're being chased you'd fly down it. My wife nearly took a tumble as she ran and I grabbed her. The side shows Gay Satin was just not appropriate. I get Gore, I get Scare but the acts were just not my taste with all the Deep Penetration and Masochism. I could have been way more group friendly if your in line for 45min. read more

So, I am ALWAYS watching scary movies and decided to take my family and my best friend here. I totally thought I could handle it, no big deal. I was beyond scared through each haunted house. Of course I didn't realize the more scared you are the more they will come after you to scare the life out of you! The clown themes haunted house literally almost killed me haha! I was so scared I ran so hard into a wall. When the evening was over I told my family I cut myself in the clown house. They all made fun of me because there was not scratch. 2 days later I have the biggest bruise ever. I was visiting friends in Austin this weekend and we decided to drive out to a haunted house. I have never been to one in Austin and Bat City was recommended. The dive wasn't too long, and the scare grounds are worth it. The three haunted attractions start out strong and get progressively better. There was a good amount of third party vendors selling interesting curios and merchandise. Try the fried Oreos. read more

We go to a lot of haunted houses and this is my favorite. The haunted houses have lots of actors, well laid out, varied elevation and the 3D house is unlike anything I've ever encountered!! The vendors were about what you'd expect and do go to eat there as it's crappy snack bar type food. The only real complaint I have is that they should get their liquor license so you can purchase a beverage. read more

If you're tired of over-crowded haunts at big theme parks, I highly recommend coming out to Bat City Scaregrounds. 2021 was its first year and they did very well! Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time and printed at home, or you can purchase them at the box office on-site (either way it's the same price for admission- $30 for most nights, $25 for less popular times like early or late in the season). Doors open at 730PM, but expect a slow ramp-up to the festivities like walking through the attractions. In the meantime, however, there is a booth serving food (such as hot dogs, french fries, and a number of fried foods) to grab a bite, you can peruse the gift shop trolley car "House of Curiosities" (an unaffiliated shop on the grounds), or you can watch a spooky movie playing on their inflatable screen. There is also a band that plays on Friday and Saturday nights on stage, and a few select monsters roam outside of the mazes and throughout the grounds that are happy to interact with you or pose for pictures/selfies if you ask. There are three attractions total, all of which have their own unique strengths. In one I liked the slow "story-telling" as the theme was revealed, in another I greatly enjoyed all the props and decor, and in the 3D maze I appreciated the impressive airbrushing work that went into it. All of them had some fun larger-than-life animatronics, and there were quite a few moments something would happen I wasn't expecting! The trailers had the best set-ups inside them, though some of the outdoor areas connecting them were also good. If you are a taller or larger person, expect to possibly feel a bit claustrophobic (this will add to the fear *wink*). I do think that the talent/actors inside the mazes were the weakest link- some of them just need some additional training/coaching on how to deliver more effective scares and/or use their designated areas to better effect. But the outfits were good and a good range of characters depicted. It was all well put together and executed. I liked that it was more relaxed and intimate. Most nights they are open until 11PM. I went through the mazes at a leisurely pace and in total it took me an hour, though there were not any lines to get in when I went (the last weekend after Halloween was not busy), so results could vary. It is out in the "sticks" as it were, but don't worry, some employees will guide you to the parking area with flashlights. =) read more

Great time at bat city tonight. I would recommend it to friends etc. It wasn't very crowded but still had some wait time. First house we did was castle orlock. We waited an hour in line and house was about 20 minute walk for us. It's a mix of inside/outside which I liked. Lots of twists and turns and the makeup done for actors was great. Lots of scares! Second house was ancient evil. Shorter wait of 20 minutes and the house was smaller 15 ish min walk. Similar it was indoor and outdoor but I rate this one Even better than orlock. Way more actors and some serious jumps and screams from our group! The decorating was fantastic! We didn't visit the clown house - nope I don't do clowns :| and it was getting really late. read more

Will say the drive to Bat City was the scariest part of the entire experience. Upon arrival we see 3 cars in the parking lot at 8 (which was weird considering they opened up at 7:30) but it's a Thursday night so we assumed people weren't going out on a school night. we walk up to the place in a ton of mud granted it rained an astronomical amount so I can't blame that on them but I do not recommend going in shoes that you like. After walking in no one was at the door, no lights were on & there was 3 people there making tik toks. They looked liked they worked there but I couldn't tell as no one greeted us, asked for tickets or anything like that. I HIGHLY recommend not buying tickets as they may or may not be open. I think the advertising was total bullshit nothing was going on. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

What you need to know for 2023. Last year, the lines were short and the tickets were $20 so I was excited about going again this year. I was there just last night, tickets are now $30 plus online service charge, $15.00 more for VIP. We waited in line for over an hour at the main haunted house (there are 3) because the lines are longer and of course when there were people in the VIP line which you are right next to, go first so it extends the wait time for regular folks even more. Accurate reflection of what is going on in Austin. The zombies were fewer on the grounds and not as entertaining. They are coming up to your ear in the haunted houses and literally screaming in it so it hurts. You are paying much more for alot less. Took so long that I didn't even have the energy to stay for all 3 haunted houses. I will not be going back and I hope the Scaregrounds reads and heeds this feedback. read more

Was not worth the cost unable to renter the houses even though there was no line we wanted to revisit. The actors we're not scary and the place seemed very empty for the weekends b4 Halloween. I would not recommend this as a Halloween event maybe visit house of torment and actually get scared. We spoke to the owner at the start and end of the night and told him how we felt and he said we would need to purchase "reentry passes" to be able to do the houses again. If you are going to do something for Halloween I would skip. read more

Growing up in Austin, everyone always goes to House of Torment. Decided to give this place a try and do not regret it! Austin was lacking a haunted house experience like this one with multiple houses and fairground vibes. The houses were genuinely spooky and the last one with the light refracting was super cool and fun. I loved the fun house atmosphere. The food was yummy fried fair food and the actors who walk around while you wait in line were good natured and fun. Not so much scary but still a good time.
