I was visiting friends in Austin this weekend and we decided to drive out to a haunted house. I have never been to one in Austin and Bat City was recommended. The dive wasn't too long, and the scare grounds are worth it. The three haunted attractions start out strong and get progressively better. There was a good amount of third party vendors selling interesting curios and merchandise. Try the fried Oreos.

Had a lot of fun at this place. Enjoyed all the vendors and live band. The haunts were fun and the actors were great. Didn't catch up to anyone nor had anyone behind us. Highly recommend !

We go to a lot of haunted houses and this is my favorite. The haunted houses have lots of actors, well laid out, varied elevation and the 3D house is unlike anything I've ever encountered!! The vendors were about what you'd expect and do go to eat there as it's crappy snack bar type food. The only real complaint I have is that they should get their liquor license so you can purchase a beverage.

Great time at bat city tonight. I would recommend it to friends etc. It wasn't very crowded but still had some wait time. First house we did was castle orlock. We waited an hour in line and house was about 20 minute walk for us. It's a mix of inside/outside which I liked. Lots of twists and turns and the makeup done for actors was great. Lots of scares! Second house was ancient evil. Shorter wait of 20 minutes and the house was smaller 15 ish min walk. Similar it was indoor and outdoor but I rate this one Even better than orlock. Way more actors and some serious jumps and screams from our group! The decorating was fantastic! We didn't visit the clown house - nope I don't do clowns :| and it was getting really late.

Best haunted house in the Austin area! They have 3 amazing haunted houses, tons of really unique vendors, a food truck, entertainers, bands, and fun monsters roaming the midway. You should check them out!

Very enjoyable time. Creative haunted houses and actors did a great job. Also liked that they had some food options and live music.

With that said, the line does go much slower, so I ended up adding on the fast pass right there at the kiosk, which was well worth it.

This is not your traditional haunted house, they will touch you and cover you in fake blood. It's a bit far out of the way, so be sure to eat before you go. Also, I would recommend wearing clothes that are comfortable and won't be ruined by fake blood. We didn't plan ahead and forgot our towels, which was a big mistake due to the downpour as we were leaving.

Everyone working is a volunteer, so shout out to them for devoting their time and energy to a good cause. The haunted house was very interactive- lots of walking, crawling and getting blasted with blood. Dress accordingly. (We came in painter suits which helped to an extent but maybe a pancho of some sort would be a better choice! ) The show/ haunted house has a different theme each year , this year they did a Celtic festival , scavenger hunt and stories out of a few books which was a great concept, had you read the books. Nobody in my group had read any book except for Alice in wonderland so we were a bit confused through out the whole thing. Also I didn't find it to scary overall since I was just confused the whole time lol. If your a reader& had read these books, I bet this is 10/10 a great experience. At the start of the haunted house there is a paper and pencil to write down the things you're looking for in the scavenger hunt but the platform in that area wasn't smooth which made writing difficult. Also the pencil was a bit hard to see, not a big deal - just a note for the team. I will return next year as I've heard great things about the past shows. And love to support the cause! 4 stars for the effort and number of different rooms , the decor and performance. -1 star for the lack of fright at this haunted house

The wait outside the entrance was maybe 45 minutes long, but there was barely any wait inside the corrals before each haunted house. For the ticket price you get 3 unique haunted house experiences that are so well story-lined and designed! Haunt 2 was especially incredible this year with moving features and even a secret bar inside (accessible only by special ticket). The Nocturne Sancturn bar was a fun and unique experience that really added to the immersion of the overall story of the haunt. They don't have a full service bar and you can't stay for too long, but it's a fun little surprise to be pulled into a secret room and given a pretty good/strong shot while your adrenaline is racing from the scares haha! As someone with a background in designing themed experiences, House of Torment always takes the cake for most immersive, well designed and well constructed haunted house. They don't just rely on jump scares and screams to make you feel scared. Next time you go through, try to pay attention to all the little Easter eggs and details!

You can purchase your tickets online or ahead of time or when you arrive. There are 4 houses that you may visit, each has its own theme. I found out when trying to enter a house for the second time that I had to get a "refundable ticket". This was not explained to me when I purchased the tickets -that they were for one entry only. The whole experience lasted less than an hour and there were no photos allowed to be taken inside. For the price, that's deeply unsatisfying. It felt totally rushed and lacking in real substance. Based upon this short and lackluster experience, I can't say that I would return next year unless they seriously improve how they communicate and make the experience much deeper.

I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

The good: the 4 haunted houses and hayride are legit. The decor is really cool. I could have walked around looking at everything much longer. There's a DJ when you walk in playing some good tunes and the jump scare actors were pretty creepy! It's like a mini Halloweentown. Improvements: they have the potential to make this place even better. 1. They had closed one of the bars and were slammed at the one bar open, causing the bartender to rush everyone and be quite rude because they were under stress. If the line were shorter I would have gotten a second drink. 2. The food was just ok. Kind of expected from this place but they could easily purchase more quality ingredients or partner with a food truck. 3. They could use a few more jump scare actors. The ones in the asylum and alien haunted house were so fun. The clown one had so much potential, but they did not capitalize. Have creepy clowns walking around! A few tweaks and this place could be amazing and even more popular.

This is why I found myself making the 1.5 hour drive up from San Antonio to check out the Scream Hallow Halloween Park located in the small town of Smithville. We arrived around 7:30 and had no problem entering the gates after showing our tickets. I loved how immersive the property felt ...it truly did feel like a mini Halloween theme park. There were 4 haunted houses on the property, as well as a haunted hayride to enjoy. Entry into the Halloween Museum and an Artifact House were an additional charge on top of entry into the haunted houses. Since the museum was my main driver for coming, that's what I wanted to start with first. Alas, it was a bit of a letdown. It was two rooms and seemed more of a collection of Halloween memorabilia than anything else. I could tell that they were attempting to tell some sort of narrative but I was really unclear what some of the exhibits were supposed to represent. i think more (and better) exhibit signage could go a long way here. As the for haunts themselves these were pretty hit or miss with me. My friend and I both agreed that hands down our favorite was the spaceship/alien themed haunted house. It had really cool props and staging and felt like the most actors/jump scares. THe runner up for us was the coven/witch themed haunted house. The clown haunted house and asylum were both pretty unmemorable and had similar vibes. The hayride was a bit of a joke so I was bummed that we saved it for last, but oh well. Overall, every single haunt (with the exception of the UFO) could have used significantly more actors or jump scares. There were long periods of lots of walking with nothing happening. In addition to the haunted attractions and museum, there is also a gift shop, restaurant, a DJ, and 2 bars serving wine, beer, and seltzers. We grabbed some pizza, fries, and the adult grilled cheese. It was all mediocre. The fries tasted like baked school cafeteria cuisine and the White Claw I ordered from the bar next the bathrooms (which the women's was out of order so they were steering us towards porta potties) was warm. Parking is free and there was plenty of it so that's definitely always a plus. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance at Scream Hallow a ton, I just wish the haunt has been consistent in the experiences they provided and the museums had more substance to it. I wouldn't make the drive up from San Antonio every year to visit but I can see myself coming back in a few years.
