Terribly overcrowded, nowhere to sit. The bathrooms are usually dirty. Sometimes I have to stand…read morefor hours. Everyone and everything in the Oncology clinic moves so slowly. I have to wear a face mask and gloves, and bring Lysol for the restroom, because people up there get really sick, and bring their sick relatives and children up there. Every time I am scheduled for a certain appointment time, I always end up seeing the oncologist and doing the chemotherapy later than planned. I feel as if I am not listened to. For example, I have stage 4 breast cancer, and was recently slipping in and out of consciousness so my parents brought me to Parkland where they found a brain tumor. At this time, my anxiety medicine was cut down significantly. I felt this was a terrible time to do such a thing. Also, my pain medicine was lowered and I was apparently asked in the hospital, where I was in no condition to make decisions. I have a problem with the way things are/were handled.

I have a cousin with leukemia. He went to Parkland where he was diagnosed a year ago (chronic…read moreoriginally, but had a blast, brain tumor, morphed to acute). He has been released/re-admitted multiple times. During his stay there, he contracted colitis and pneumonia. Miraculously, he overcame those, but during his last admission, he waited in the ER for 30 hours. Upon getting a room, he was no longer able to move his limbs. He's now been paralyzed for 6 weeks and we have no info as to why. He's being treated for a fungal infection but still don't have results back from the lab (were supposed to have them a week ago). He just saw the neurologist a couple weeks ago at the request of our family. My aunt hasn't heard from the oncologist in over two weeks. This is just the tip of the iceberg...I can't articulate all of my concerns. I understand Parklands urgent care is great, but I would advise you to stay away if you have cancer. There is no 'ownership' of your care for lack of a better word and it's very hard to get information.
