I have been going to their office for almost 10 years. My initial doctors name was Dr. Bernstein. He retired in 2019 and i was sadden because i was pregnant for the for time with my son when he retired. Before he retire, he referred me to a new doctor in the office, Dr. Mooken. She seemed nice at first. Fast forwards 8 months into my pregnancy, I was told i can no longer be serviced and given my charts by their administrator Lisa and billing, Cindy. Rewind to 3 months pregnant, I was told I needed to make monthly payments of $50 (totaling $200 to cover the cost of my delivery). I finished my $200 payments to the office at 6 months pregnant. Month 7, I was told I had to pay an additional $200 to cover my delivery. I was confused, because their reasoning for billing me an additional $200, was that, if i didn't have my son by the time i finished paying the first installment of $200, the installment would start over and i would have to pay an additional $200 before month 8 of pregnancy. At that office visit i only paid $40, which was my specialist copay just to be seen. I contacted my insurance and was told i should not have paid the office anything because my insurance covers prenatal visits at 100%. Month 8, office visit I explained to them and even had my insurance to speak with them. The insurance agent told the office manager Lisa, that she was coding my visits as regular office visits and not prenatal visits which would leave me with a copayment of 40 due to her incorrectly coding my visits. The insurance agent also explained to Lisa and Cindy (billing) that the insurance company (blue cross blue shield) will cover all cost of labor and delivery. Cindy stated to me that she will not change the coding because Lisa is her boss and told her not to. Lisa stated to me and my fiancé that she has never heard of a insurance company covering the labor and delivery at 100%. Lisa then went on to ask me if this was even my first pregnancy, as if i was lying about being pregnant for the first time. I'm assuming because I'm African American. Lisa stated to me that if I don't pay the addition $200 that day, I will not be seen again. I tried to pled with Lisa and Cindy but they obviously do not care about people and the fact that I was 8 months pregnant with complications or that I had been a loyal patient at their office for almost 10 years. I would not recommend this office or the doctors in this office. If they will turn away a loyal patient that is 8 months pregnant and the doctor not even try to call and work something out with the patient, they will do it to you too. I had a conversation with Dr. Mooken about the problems with billing and her words to me were, she does not deal with billing. Very poor service!!!! Having to find a new doctor at 8 months pregnant caused a lot of stress and I felt so defeated. I never want anyone to go through this their first, second or last pregnancy! Fast forward to now, my son is indeed a miracle baby. He was delivered early with his umbilical cord wrapped around his neck twice and a knot in his cord! He is now a very healthy boy. Everything happens for a reason. I believe my son would not have made it with the poor service I was receiving. They did not even know my son was not growing in my womb. My very first visit at my new doctors office detected it and had me seeing a specialist right away. Thank God!
Small Note: Lisa is a very rude and i feel racist individual due to her remarks. I am not the only non Caucasian person that has been treated unfairly and discriminated against by Lisa. Lisa made sure to tell me that everything she does is approved by the doctors. For that, I rate all of the doctors in that office a 1. If they are okay with their administrator treating their patients poorly, I would not advise anyone of color to offer any of their hard earned money to be treated rude and made to feel less than. read more
