We've lost touch, I've moved from TX to CA, but couldn't be any more grateful for living in TX and being connected to the Rappaport Piano Workshop. A visit to the workshop is absolutely amazing. School of Rock Austin off of Anderson Lane is a wonderful place. The Music, Director and teaching…read morestaff as well as the General Manager and the office staff all work together very closely to ensure the best for each of their students seven days a week. They really care about their students and their program. My sons have had wonderful experiences at the school and have grown as people as well as musicians . Being a part of the SOR performance program has given them a sense of belonging as well as lifted their self-esteem. My eldest son was able to get a lucrative job, though he is still an older teenager due to his knowledge and hard work at SOR in addition to some other great qualities he has. SOR is a place where students up to 18 years old can be themselves and discover music and get a chance to perform in actual venues in this wonderful city that is so much defined by music. Adult students have the chance to learn instruments or singing that they may have always wanted to learn, but never had a chance, for others, it proves to be a great activity be where they can develop skills make friendships. They too get to perform in venues. All of the students have one-on-one lessons with professional musicians. I just can't say enough good things about it, and I know that my children are better for having been a part of the SOR family.

TLDR: The only good thing about this location is the teachers. They are incredible. However, the…read moredirectors at this location are extremely unethical in their practices, and they're following suit of the massive corporate chain above them. The teachers really are incredible. I know many kids have had a great experience because of them! They work hard and care about what they do. They also only make about $15/lesson, while parents are paying more than 5x that per lesson. That's at least $55 that goes... somewhere else.... These incredible teachers are refused benefits including health insurance. They are forced to apply for government assistance and charitable aid to get coverage. Indeed, there is a local nonprofit that provides assistance to musicians whose employers otherwise refuse to: HAAM. This location even unashamedly uses their students to fundraise for HAAM, showing the world what good philanthropists they are, while their own employees have to rely on them to afford health insurance. If your child does go there and shows enough talent or drive, they will be pressured to audition for the "B-Team." This is a great opportunity for kids to play gigs in front of audiences, especially if that's what they're passionate about. Unfortunately, however, this group of students is exploited and overworked. They are used as free marketing and labor at events, and the number of required weekends can be overburdensome and lead to burnout. Just be wary, and know a lot of the group quit this year. If your child is set on a rock-star dream, learning covers, and playing on stage at a venue in a rockband setting, more power to them! It's a lot of fun, and there are other great alternatives. BandAid is a great choice, or even the southwest location of School of Rock (private franchise). If your child is set on learning an instrument or furthering their musical education, please consider other options first. This School of Rock location is a corporate franchise, where money is valued over people, and the two directors take full advantage of their employees and students. Private instructors abound, all for less money and more learning, especially music theory and even just reading music. It will also be cheaper, since you'll pay teachers directly, and not the overhead of an international corporate chain, which is only a mere portfolio of an even more massive company, Youth Enrichment Brands. At the end of the day School of Rock is a business owned by an even bigger business. With a CEO, shareholders, profit margins to hit, and money to make. They will put profit over people at every level, despite their convincingly authentic appearances. The music director even makes some of his serious leadership decisions by rolling a die, as if it's a game to him? Five fiery stars! Nick Litterski really took care of our piano, and he really took care of us. He's…read morethe guy you want for your tuning and piano maintenance! I inherited a baby grand piano that had been in my grandmother's house since at least the early 1960s but probably quite a bit earlier, mostly unplayed. A refinish from decades ago job wiped out any trace of the manufacturer on the front, so it's a mystery who made it or how old it is. I also had no paper trail on how much care it had received over the years, meaning it could have been anything from an easy job to a huge challenge to tune it and get it into really good playable shape. Nick was amazing. He showed up on time, and immediately put me at ease. From a quick glance at the piano he could already give me clues as to what kind of shape it was in (turns out, not too bad all things considered), and as he got to work he took the utmost care in not just doing a simple tuning and cleaning of the piano, but also trying to get a feel for it as an instrument and where we could take it beyond this. He was very careful to get a sense of how my family and I use the piano and where my interests and skill levels were at, to get a sense of how much work we need to think about doing in the coming years to make it work for us without going overboard. I really appreciated his thoughtfulness on this, and on not trying to oversell us or just make it a quick in and out job. His care with the piano itself was superb, and over the course of 3 hours he transformed it from something that sounded like the piano from the cantina scene in The Three Amigos to something that fills our living room with beautiful harmonies. Throughout the process he kept communicating on everything he was doing, explaining in simple terms what he was finding and what he thought was needed, which gave me a new appreciation as well for the complexities of pianos. Nick is also just an easy going, fun guy. As he opened up the piano we kept finding little clues inscribed here and there as to its age and history, and he got as excited about solving the mystery of its origins as I did! Plus Nick is himself a fabulous piano player --- as he tested the tuning I was in awe of his jazz playing --- and before he left he even gave me a few pointers on how to get myself back into piano playing after 25 years of having barely played at all, but also new ways to think about approaching the piano to break the cycle of strict sight reading years of classical piano lessons left me with. In sum, I highly recommend Nick Litterski! He will work with you and your piano to help you get exactly what you need!

Sounds like a match made in heaven ;) The manager greeted me when I came in the door and gave me a full tour of the store and even told me about the antique garage doors that they found encased in brick from when the building was a grocery store a gabillion years ago and are now using as display walls. The store was brand new (I'm pretty sure they had just opening it the previous week), so there were some glitches. The computer system was tied remotely to the south store and so there was a lag in the checkout process. But everyone was friendly and I felt no frustration at all as they assured me that they were making things work with the new location. Got home and tested the projector with my laptop; we are a go! All in all a good experience so far. Unless they call me nasty names when I return the equipment, they've earned their five stars :D

We got there and the rental fee was over $5600 for a mid-sized PA Barringer X32 and bac-kline. Dejected we headed straight to Rock and Roll north very close by. The gentlemen helped us right away and got us a very similar sized system (Barringer X16, we did not even need the X32) for 10x's less for a whole week. The board for Barringer X32 sells for $2200.00 ! GO with a name you can trust in this town that won't take advantage and gouge you: ROCK AND ROLL RENTAL ROCKS !!!
