I have had other private training sessions and classes at Gold's Gym but never got the results like I do at Practical Fitness. Having little time to workout, it takes 30 minutes twice a week and you get amazing results. Also, with a few injuries, this method has kept me injury-free and has actually healed long standing old injuries. I have had a few great trainers and lately it has been Jen. Scheduled a call to review my needs and was able to get into Eric's schedule for a Friday assessment. The gym is quaint and quiet, I've driven by a million times. The parking is a bit odd, a few spots up front where you have to reverse onto S Lamar when exiting...sooo that can be a challenge. They have parking in the rear of the building which is great however there is a single entry way and well, not sure how multiple cars could park and get out. Just know your reverse skills need to be on point. The gym inside has everything you'd need and since it's not open to the public it's just the clients and trainers. That means no waiting for machines and no one looking at you while you're there. Eric is great, he's very easy to talk to and made the whole experience easy. Upon arrival we walked through the questionnaire filled out online to find out the why behind the personal training inquiry. He then did a body scan for weight and fat %, took blood pressure three times as well. Gave a quick tour of the gym and how things work then it was onto the physical movement assessment. Nothing too crazy, range of motion and flexibility tasks. Took an hour for the initial visit and came back the next day to finish a few small exercises then learn the warm up needed prior to sessions. No membership needed as you buy the session in backs, 5, 10, 20 and can be used how you want. Like that there's no long term contract to sign. Session will start in the next week or so with focus on building/repairing the base/functional imbalances before getting into the fun part. Time will tell how this goes, wish me luck!

The facility and equipment (free weights, treadmills, TRX, Infrared Sauna, bio-metrics reader etc.) are top-notch, the training staff is excellent, and the classes are great. For the classes, the staff certainly wants to help you see results, but you do train at your own pace. Which is a good thing because with like CrossFit (which I've done) workouts turn into competitions and competition lead to injury, Fit Austin is self paced. Ultimately, you're only competition is yourself and what you decide to put into it. Special shout out to Lane, who always brings the energy + excellent WODs to the table. Do yourself a favor, drop the gym membership that you rarely use and when you do you just got through the motions. Instead get into see the crew at Fit Austin where you might pay more but you'll absolutely get more out of it. Thanks Fit Austin!

The workouts are tough but the best thing is that they are ALWAYS different. It's never the same boring old routine. They recently got an infrared sauna too! Their class times align to people who work long hours in addition to people who don't work as you can attend the 6am or 7am classes ( that's where I'm at ) or the 12pm or 5:30pm classes. I enjoy this class so much more then I ever enjoyed Barre, Yoga or CrossFit. It's just a true combination of everything and that makes it so much more doable as it never gets boring. Random body parts are always sore. They also always provide alternatives if you have an injury. The class is super diverse. People of ALL ages and ALL weights. It's refreshing. You're not intimated but you're also motivated. Personal tip: If Lateef doesn't immediately respond to your email just email again. He's an actual owner hustler as he teaches so many of his classes and does a lot of personal training and he doesn't have an assistant so he juggles it all on his own. Some of the equipment looks like it's been around forever, but it still hits better than most of the polished machines at commercial gyms. Everything here is built to last and made for people who actually lift. The vibe is raw and focused. No egos, no distractions--just people putting in work. It's the kind of place that makes you want to go harder. Only real downsides: the water fountain was out of order, and there's not much in the way of cardio equipment. So bring a water bottle, and if cardio is a big part of your training, you'll need to get that in elsewhere. Still, if you're into that gritty, no-nonsense gym energy, Hyde Park delivers. If management is that comfortable judging and discussing their own staff in front of other people, imagine what they're saying about the members the second they walk away. I go to the gym to work out, not to feel like everything I do is being talked about. It's hard to feel comfortable in a "judgment-free zone" when the judgment seems to be coming directly from management.
