Patients, BE AWARE!…read more Expensive blood tests are being ordered unnecessarily without first consulting with the physician, leaving patients to bear the cost. I went to see Dr. Le based on my PCP's recommendation for a brief consultation. I had already completed a full blood work panel at my PCP's office the day before. After I checked in, the front office staff directed me to a phlebotomist and insisted I get my blood drawn. I explained that I had just had blood work done the previous day and that this visit was for a consultation only. However, the office team insisted that I could not see Dr. Le unless I had a new set of blood tests done. Eventually, I gave in and had my blood drawn, as I had already taken time off work for the appointment. (Dr. Le was professional during the visit.) The worst part came when I received my bill from Texas Oncology after insurance adjustments. In addition to the regular tests, such as CBC and Iron Binding tests, a test called Flow Cytometry was ordered without my knowledge or consent. This test is typically used in medical research to study cell populations and particles. The test cost nearly $4,500, and even after insurance adjustments, I am still responsible for almost $700. Expensive and unnecessary blood tests are being ordered without proper consultation, leaving patients to pay the price.

All of these things sound funny out of context, but when you're a patient about to undergo a surgical procedure, you need to know you can trust the person and that what comes out of their mouth is going to be serious. None of this would have been such a big issue if he had presented them as jokes, but his voice remained a constant, monotone deadpan, that made it impossible to determine when the real medical advice ended and the jokes began. He doesn't even crack a smile. Just a stone faced expression the entire time. And to top it off, the whole time I had to listen to some Christian radio station, which made me very uncomfortable. I also had to pay a $500 copay upfront with zero options for a payment plan.

Dr Matin literally saved my life after another doctor failed to appropriately diagnose me from…read moreseeing me in the ER to three days as an inpatient. Not only did the first doctor NOT diagnose me correctly, he didn't even know the correct specialists to consult with, when he couldn't figure it out himself. (By the way, it really wasn't a 'strange' diagnosis - it should have been caught on Day 1 in the ER by that doctor, or even by simply taking another look at my radiology films). As a result of waiting out three inpatient days, very heavily drugged due to the pain, Dr Matin somehow ended up at my bedside on Day 3 and was left with a 'garbage' patient who was on their way to checking out of this life. I was immediately taken to surgery and what he found should have been diagnosed before it had reached the point of the serious complications that then had. In fact, this is a diagnosis that a first year med student could have easily diagnosed. Dr Matin later told my family that had I waited just one more hour, they would have been making my funeral plans. I will never forget this surgeon. He is one of a kind and i am here today because of him. (As an aside, he also has a wild sense of humor and the best bedside manner). If i could give him 10-stars i would. Interestingly, my adult son who had been seeing 4-5 physicians over approximately 15years for chronic, debilitating and sporadic abdominal pain that nobody could figure out. They removed his appendix (no help). They removed his gall bladder (still no help). They did studies (for GERD, etc) - still he suffered. He was then sent to a pain control clinic where he was prescribed numerous addicting pain medications. He got high as hell (and unfortunately, addicted) - but he still had pain. When he visited me from out of state, i recommended he see Dr Matin. Within 10minutes of seeing my son in his office, my son was diagnosed with bilateral intestinal hernias. Into surgery he went, had the hernias reduced and my son has been pain free since then. (He is also recovering from his pain med addiction and has been clean for over 10years). What more can i say? I would consider Dr Matin a miracle-maker. I suppose it doesn't get any better than that, does it?

Dr. Le did so many negligent things during my time as his patient that I've struggled to write a…read moresuccinct review summarizing everything. First, he and his so-called insurance coordinator, BT, spent months telling me that my insurance company wasn't possibly going to approve IVF until I went through multiple (and potentially life-threatening) failed IUI cycles. This was 100% incorrect. After months of being unable to even get to IUI due to cysts and/or overstimulated ovaries (not to mentioned a blocked tube that Dr. Le diagnosed but failed to mention presented a risk of ectopic pregnancy), I finally looked into my insurance information myself and found out that IVFMD had gotten it wrong. My insurance would have - and did - approve me to go straight to IVF. I went through months of suffering in an effort to do IUI for nothing. I also wasted almost $2,500 of my $10,000 lifetime insurance maximum on fertility drugs that Dr. Le prescribed me for the IUI process. Dr. Le's thoughts on this? "Give the drugs to someone else if you don't need them - it's good karma." No, "good karma" would be you reimbursing me for the drugs you had me buy for multiple failed, unnecessary, and reckless IUI attempts. It's not me giving my prescription drugs to other people, which could get me sent to PRISON. I suffered serious side effects from the medications I was being given, to the point that I needed to inform my employer of what was going on because I was too physically ill to work. Dr. Le repeatedly dismissed my symptoms (extreme lightheadedness and dizziness, to the point it was hard to stand up) as "work stress." He even dismissed my irregular period as the "stress" of being a lawyer, and he was dismissive when I told him my period had been irregular years before I became a lawyer. I finally insisted that he do further testing for a hormone imbalance and stop blaming my symptoms on "stress." He did the testing (saying, "the more you ask, the more we'll test"), and - turns out - I have a genetic endocrine disorder. Even after this diagnosis, Dr. Le minimized my symptoms and actually seemed angry when I asked if he would be willing to prepare FMLA paperwork for me while I went through IVF (the answer was "No! Just let me focus on trying to get you pregnant!"). Dr. Le then tried AGAIN to push me to try IUI EVEN THOUGH I had ANOTHER cyst on my ovaries, despite the fact that he had canceled a prior IUI cycle because I had a cyst on my ovaries. And, again, this is after I told him I wanted to go straight to IVF because my insurance allowed me to do so (and it was financially in my best interest to go straight to IVF anyway and stop wasting my limited insurance coverage on unsuccessful attenpts to do IUI). When I asked for clarification as to why one cyst made it so we couldn't do IUI but another one wasn't a problem, he got angry with me for questioning him and refused to answer. I had expected some kind of distinction as to the relative sizes of the cysts, perhaps, but there was no justification for his negligence. My experience was so degrading and invalidating, and I'm lucky I had an understanding employer who supported me more than my doctor did. The only "stress" I had during this painful ordeal was caused by IVFMD. This is all not to mention the incompetent staff I had to deal with, but that's another story.
