You will be the hero to your friends and family when something goes wrong with their sunroof and you can quickly say "Hang on, I know a guy..." I have a 28 year old 4Runner and the sunroof cables finally rusted up inside the channels after we moved back from D.C. 5 years ago. I have made phone calls and asked mechanics if they could fix it for the last 3 years and I get told that only a body shop will do that, body shops inevitably tell me they don't do that, try an auto glass place, and all of them say "Nope, we don't mess with sunroofs." Having a full time job, I kind of gave up on ever getting it fixed. However, I also have a mechanically-inclined brother who, bless his heart, said he could help me fix it, took it all apart one weekend and then left me with an un-drivable car for 6 weeks. My husband, in an epic Google deep dive, found Texas Auto Accessories and called Jay. I know cars and I know car guys, Jay must have an encyclopedic memory of every sunroof configuration ever produced. He takes mine apart, finds the rust, immediately tracks down one from a parts yard, I go pick it up and then he treks out to my house to install it. Who does that?? Jay does. I seriously cannot recommend Jay and Texas Auto Accessories highly enough! On a Thursday afternoon I heard a weird creaking sound when I went to close my sunroof. After that, my sunroof wouldn't open at all. When I hit the button (and despite how much I tried pushing and pulling), one of the hinges at the rear corner of the sunroof appeared to be completely seized. After reading a ton of posts on various online forums I found out that the panoramic sunroof on my Mercedes is notoriously difficult and very expensive to repair. If I were to take it to the Mercedes dealership it would have cost me $3.8-$4.5K to fix. I was almost resigned to a life of not having a usable sunroof from here on out, but couldn't imagine dealing with that come summertime in Texas. After a bit of searching online, I came across Texas Auto Accessories. Their many 5-star reviews led to me give them a call on the Friday evening. Jay immediately answered and was more than generous/patient with his time discussing the problems with my sunroof with me. He said that I could bring my car down to him the very next day and he would go and get the necessary parts from Mercedes in the morning (keep in mind, this would be on a SATURDAY). I arrived at Jay's shop around noon and he immediately got to work. Despite all of the forums saying the job usually took 5+ hours, Jay completely repaired the sunroof in just a little over 3 hours! And he fixed it PERFECTLY! I watched Jay work the entire time and let me tell you, this was no easy job! He had to take out my car's entire headliner, disconnecting all of my visors, lights, etc. and he took the entire sunroof out of the car. Jay completely disassembled the sunroof rails/complex parts and replaced the broken parts with new ones. When he put everything back together it was as good as new! I took the car for a test drive when he was done and there wasn't even a hint of wind noise coming from the sunroof. All of the seals and the sunroof operation was perfect. Not only that, he took the time/care and attention to detail to put everything back exactly as it should be (even cleaning the entire area too)! The entire cost was a fraction of what the Mercedes dealership would have charged me. Not to mention, I was able to have the whole thing fixed the VERY NEXT DAY after I called Jay, rather than having to wait weeks for when the Mercedes dealership would've finally been able to fit me in and schedule an appointment. And also just to say, on a personal note, Jay is a great guy. We talked the entire time he was working on my car and it was clear to me that he's a genuinely nice and honest guy - a rare thing to find amongst car mechanics these days. I would definitely recommend Jay to anyone else, including my own friends and family. If I ever have an issue with my sunroof or car's windows in the future, I 100% wouldn't hesitate to bring it back to Jay and Texas Auto Accessories. Randomly my sunroof was stuck at a tilt and would not close! I tried to see about getting this fixed through the dealership and local shops with no luck due to short handed on lead technicians. I was given this shops number by someone I can't remember. But am so grateful! I called around 830 am Monday morning and was given a confident "sure and how about 1230 appt?" I was on my way and became lost and called the shop to let them know I was lost and a little late (on the other side of town). Was told to still come on in with a happy attitude. When I arrived I was greeted by Lucky their 4 legged door keeper whom is oh so well mannered. Someone asked what they could do for me, I then told them my issue and they immediately went to get Jay from the work area he was in. He then stopped what he was doing and came to the front where I was parked and started to troubleshoot. He was very professional and had an upbeat attitude the entire time which felt like 10 mins but all in all from start to finish was about 30. He not only fixed my problem expeditiously but did it at a great price. If any issues arise he said bring it back without a hesitation. 10 out of 10 recommend this business. Thank you so much! New!
