    I contacted Fox Creek to repair an issue with my hydronic boiler as their company name was on the…read moreboiler itself, and I assumed that therefore they would be able to make the repairs quickly and proficiently. When I called to make the appointment they made sure to obtain my credit card number prior to scheduling a repair technician. Their pricing was very high...$300 for the call (including an hour's time) plus $150 per hour after that...if the issue couldn't be resolved in an hour. Despite the high price, I authorized the visit as I had no heat, no hot water, and was scheduled to leave town within a couple of days. When the technician arrived it became clear that he wasn't actually going to fix anything. He was friendly, worked with me to diagnose the problem, and even helped me order a repair part. Although I was disappointed that the repair wasn't done, I was on board with using them to do it....especially since I had already spent $300 and just needed to get this done. That evening however, I got a call from the manager who advised that they weren't going to do the repair. I asked why, and was told that it was because I had ordered the part (with the assistance of their tech), and that they were concerned that the repair might be complicated. I offered to pay them the difference between what the part cost on Amazon and what they wanted to charge for it (over $100 on a part I bought from Amazon for $150), and sign a waiver releasing them for any responsibility for any work beyond the basics of bleeding and refilling the boiler, which I knew needed to be done. They refused to accept my offer and also refused to reduce the $300 charge (which was premised on the fact that they would actually fix the problem) to $150 to compensate them for the hour their tech spent on site. No dice. So, they promptly charged my credit card $300, and refused to honor their end of the deal...or at least refund the extra $150. Bottom line is that I cannot recommend this company.

    In early November, I contacted this company to repair my gas fireplace--my primary heat…read moresource--before winter. A technician came out, serviced the unit, and identified the issue: a faulty blower. He provided a quote for the replacement, which I approved immediately. That's when the problems began. Ten days later, I called for an update and was told the part hadn't even been ordered. Another ten days later, I was informed the part wasn't available, but they could try retrofitting a similar one. When I asked if there were other options, they said no--so I agreed. On the scheduled day, I took time off work, only to receive a call 30 minutes after they were supposed to arrive saying they could now order the correct part directly from the manufacturer--something they had previously claimed was impossible. To proceed, I had to pay in full immediately. Fast forward three months, and I still didn't have a working fireplace. For weeks, I was repeatedly told, "It should arrive next week." Finally, after expressing my frustration, I got a call at 5:00 PM saying they had located the part, expedited shipping, and could complete the repair the next day. I took another day off work. The technician arrived--but with the wrong part. Instead of tracking down the actual component, they gave him a universal one that didn't fit. They then assured me the correct part would arrive in two days. This time, my wife took the day off work. The technician showed up an hour and a half late (after I had called and reminded them we had rearranged our schedules for this), but they finally made the repair. Other issues worth noting: I was promised a callback from a manager or owner--still waiting on that. Their phone system is a mess. Every time I was placed on hold (which was often), someone else would pick up and begin a different conversation. I would explain who I was and they would say "oh, let me put you back on park." The three coldest months of winter without my primary heat source, multiple days off work, countless phone calls, and constant misinformation (what my generation would call lies). I will never use this company again.

Solid value for our budget. The technician (Freddy) was competent, hard working, organized, and very personable. If this is the caliber of people and face of First Call Jewel, then you will consistently be blessed with business! Thanks much!
