We have had a horrible experience with Mountain Electrical. The first time they did work at our house, they gave us an estimate of the work. When we got the bill it was more than 50% over the estimate. We called them to question why we weren't asked if we were okay with them going significantly over the estimate and were told "if we had to call customers every time we were going to go over, we'd never get anything done." Sorry, totally disagree folks. If you are going to go that much over, you should always let the customer know and ask if they would like to proceed. Less than a year later we had another issue with the fix they had done and the worker who came out let us know that it was under warranty. Then we got a bill - which included billing for the part as well as the labor. We questioned the bill and were told "oh, only the part is under warranty, not the labor." So, the bill for the part was apparently erroneous. We were never told by the worker that we would be responsible for the labor - no apologies for the lack of communication when we called. The office staff is generally nice to talk to but not able to help much, and the owner is consistently rude whenever we have called. Highly do not recommend them. read more

I'm a full time resident and our family have used them several times over the years ranging from the very mundane electrical and breaker work to a more involved outdoor heater install where they had to put in new wiring and purchase and install the equipment itself. The techs are professional and I found them to be on time and within expected budget every time. They will quote you a parts rate and a labor rate and an estimate of how many hours. I'm not sure where these other reviews went wrong so can only speak to my personal experience as well as their general reputation around town. First of all, I don't take the time to do reviews, but I feel compelled to do so for this place. I needed two bathroom fans replaced at a condo our family has owned since the 90's, so I engaged Mountain Electric...over three month ago. I was told the cost would be "no more than $1200", and I agreed. I'm aware that everything costs more in Jackson Hole - that's just how it is and we've accepted that years ago so that's a moot point. I was told folks were out due to sickness, but "you're on the schedule". I waited and waited for a call back, but never received one, so I called. I was told they didn't know where I was on the schedule and they would call me back - never a call back. I called again, and was told folks were out due to the norovirus, and obviously I understood. Two more weeks go by with no communication - I call back again and was told there was no update yet...again. I called back again, and same answer, and was told "I'll call you right back"...but no call. I called again after a while...almost three months after my initial call, and was told they went out there but one needed sheetrock work and I was asked if they had a sheetrock contact since they probably run in to this all the time, and they said they didn't have one - bad business tactics if you ask me. AND, I asked if they at least installed the other fan, and she didn't know, and said she would call me back - unbelievable. Of course, she didn't call back, so I called to just tell them to forget about it, and only then did they tell me they they installed one, and I said well forget about the other since they don't, and I didn't at the time, have a sheetrock guy and just send me a bill - it's now been 3 months. The only thing they did efficiently was send me the bill, about 15 minute later...for over $800! They said they had to send two guys out there, at $150 a piece, for 2 hours a piece, since they had two fans and expected to do two fans, but didn't end up because of sheetrock. She also told me, "oh, that's $1200 PER fan", which is not what was delineated on our initial call. Unfu$%ingbelievable. Talked to the owner and he didn't care about all the things that transpired up to that point, and only focused on he send two guys out there - said nothing about the ZERO communication, the 3 month timeline, told me things I already know about the costs in Jackson Hole, saw I was from Texas, and was passive aggressive about that saying "I don't know what the labor rate out there is but..." - again, no need for telling me something I already know, and stated on the call in the beginning. I would've been ok with an apology for the horrible communication and lack of organizational end even $1 off - it's called business principles. End of the day, don't use these guys unless you want a complete inefficient experience with the worst customer service I've experienced in some time. read more

I have a rental property in Jackson. Since my primary residence is in California, I have a property management firm look after maintenance. The bathroom exhaust fan needed replacing and the prop. management folks had Mountain Electrical perform the replacement. The invoice received showed a total of $723. The charge for labor was for two electricians and they billed for 2.5 hours at $105/hr for each. The installed fan was evidently a high-end model for which they billed $165. Having performed several such installations myself over the years, I perceive this bill to be flat out gouging. The property management folks had expected the bill to be about half of what was charged, an amount I approved. Beware and obtain a quote prior to engaging Mountain Electricals services. read more
