We used this charging station twice to charge up our Tesla Model Y during the Father's Day weekend of 2026 to travel from Golden to Durango and back.
When we arrived mid afternoon on Friday, the charging station had 7 stalls available and was easy to locate. The area around it was a bit run down. We plugged in for about a 30 minute charge.
The gas station is no longer open and looked like it had been abandoned for some time. Lots of trash and abandoned hardware sat in an empty lot along with a porta potty.
We went into Mabel's Deli thinking we were going to get a bite to eat, but a quick look inside convinced us this wasn't a good idea. The place was a wreck. The snack shelves were empty and the service was poor. The two men running the joint reminded us of a couple of Cheech and Chong rejects. Two customers ahead of us had warned us that they had been waiting for their food for nearly two hours and we were only the third customers there. We just ended up using their restrooms and leaving. It's too bad. That spot is ideal for running a food service business as it sees a great deal of activity from people passing through.
On Sunday, on our way back to Golden, we stopped in again for another recharge. This time there was just one open spot available. With no place to order food, we sat for 40 minutes to charge up then drove down a ways to order food from the Poncha Pub which was a biker joint. They had a decent menu of food and beverage options, but the wait was long and it was crowded. With no air conditioning, it got quite hot thanks to the summer heat. They did make a great turkey sub though, so I guess it was worth the wait. read more
