Count me confused. Poncha Market is now called Mabel's Deli. It's definitely in no way a market. It's not even remotely a deli. There was no Mabel. The gas station is defunct. The restaurant, such as it is, is just a few random tables in a cold, dirty, disorganized former convenience store. There's one rack with a few bags of chips; a large mostly empty bank of refrigerators has a few drinks. No bathrooms. An open storage room piled with junk right in the middle of everything. Did I mention it was cold? It was very cold. They put hot drinks in cold waxed paper cups. Only to go, no real mugs. The menu is crudely and almost illegibly hand painted, and has about 4 choices. If you want cream for your coffee they hand you a jug out of the frig behind the counter. We had breakfast. Scrambled eggs were hammered on a dirty grill so came out brown and rubbery. Sausage seems almost homemade, not just out of a tube, and was fine. No butter on the toast, which was dry grilled. When I asked for some, the very nice young man who is running the whole show by himself seemed taken aback that someone might put butter on toast, whoever thought of such a thing? He was game though, and said "sure, it will just be a whole stick, is that ok?" I declined. Over medium eggs came out over very easy. Portions are minute. That said, it all tasted pretty good, and much better than it looked. The green chili is just that - chopped green chili, but very tasty. We saw a few other people look in, pivot, get back in their cars and drive away with cartoonish speed. A natural reaction. We might also have if we hadn't been looking for a restaurant for 3 hours - everything between Taos, the dunes, and here was closed on a Monday morning. We were starving. But this is not how you run a business. A guy who knew the kid came in and exclaimed, "wow the remodel looks great!" We thought, what the hell was it like before? Some old reviews here allude to what appears to be constant reinvention. How they arrived at this travesty is inexplicable. Total shambles. Very nice kid doing his best. Pretty solid for a sandwich shop! We were charging our EV nearby and saw this market on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Glad that we did because it really made for a good meal once on the road. Hubby got a Club and I tried their Reuben. Both were really tasty. The young man that made the sandwich asked if we wanted fries. When we declined, he jokingly said, "yeah, these sandwiches will fill you up." He was not joking. The sandwiches got some weight to them lol. Poncha Market is a Deli/ Gas Station combo which is about 150 yards from the Tesla Chargers. We stopped here recently on our way up from Santa Fe to Breckenridge. You will need to negotiate a gravel road from the Tesla chargers, but it's well worth it. There are also some clean bathrooms available. Inside, you will find a well stocked convenience store, where we picked up some supplies. But the main attraction is Mabel's Deli. She makes killer sandwiches (see photo) and it's a must, if you stop here. read more

We stopped here to charge our car (there is a Tesla Supercharger adjacent to the market). While here, we decided to get lunch. We were not disappointed! (Review is from earlier in the year before covid-19 was everywhere) I stopped here because I needed to get gas and oh hey, there was food I could purchase so I might as well pick up food as well. Twofer. I ordered a Reuben sandwich because I wanted something warm and I hadn't had a Reuben in years. The guy who ordered behind me also ordered a Reuben, so it was a Reuben day haha. The people within Poncha Market were friendly and lovely folks. It didn't take long for my sandwich to be ready, and they wished me luck on my journey as I traveled back home. I have eaten here multiple times. The food is delicious! I have had a smothered breakfast burrito, the ranch wrap and veggie burger. All of them were great. You can tell they use fresh quality ingredients. The only reason it isn't 5 stars is because there was a mix up with a larger order.
