From the moment we arrived, the service was on another level. At check-in we were offered a drink, and instead of just handing us a key and pointing to the elevator, someone personally walked us to our room and showed us around the property. I have never experienced that before at a hotel, and it immediately set the tone for the entire stay. The hotel itself is absolutely immaculate. Everything feels polished, calm, and thoughtfully designed. You can tell that every detail was intentional, from the atmosphere of the lobby to the way the staff interacts with guests. One thing that really stood out were the luxury touches throughout the room. The amenities included Bulgari soaps, body wash, and even perfume, which made the whole experience feel elevated the moment you walked into the bathroom. The marble soaking tub and spacious shower made the space feel more like a private spa than a typical hotel bathroom. Even outside the room, the design details continue. Right by our door there was literally a small moss garden built into the hallway area, which was such a unique and calming touch. At that point I was joking they might as well add a mini waterfall by everyone's door because the atmosphere was already that peaceful. They also offer thoughtful touches during the day like dessert hour, which made the stay feel even more special. It wasn't just a place to sleep -- it felt like a full experience. As someone who works in hospitality and kitchens, I naturally notice service and details more than most people. I have to say this hotel truly impressed me. This is honestly the level of hotel I would want to run or build one day. What I loved most is that everything felt warm and welcoming, not stiff or overly formal. The staff genuinely made you feel taken care of. If you're visiting Auburn and want a stay that feels luxurious, thoughtful, and memorable, The Laurel Hotel & Spa absolutely delivers.

The Laurel is THE luxury experience in Auburn. I have stayed at all the other hotels downtown and…read morethis is the best. Everything is different in a great way than so many hotels. Having been to Thrive Coffee and even in the lower floors for Auburn events I was not exactly sure how to get into it. However, there is a separate valet entrance. We were greeted immediately by a host who showed us around and brought us to the 6th floor to The Library where we were given lemonade with an option to spike it. This was not a wait in line for someone to help you. This was a concierge service the whole time. Our host brought us to the room and showed us around, who doesn't love an iPad to control your thermostat, your blackout shades, tv, and music. The room is deathly quiet. You can actually hear yourself think. The marble bathroom with the tv in the mirror, the separate water closet, shower, and bathtub with Bvlgari amenities is stunning. The bed is uber comfortable with high thread count sheets. The bar cart with items for mixed drinks is something I have never seen in the thousands of room nights ai have stayed all over the world. All and all this is a treasure. I hope I am able to stay here many more times. If you have an Amex Platinum card they have outstanding amenities that were available at this point...including free valet parking, free breakfast, and $100 voucher for restaurant or spa.

The restaurant has a very polished but comfortable atmosphere, and you can immediately tell that a lot of care goes into both the service and the presentation of the food. Every dish that came out looked like a piece of art. The plating was thoughtful and beautiful without feeling overly complicated, and the flavors backed it up. One of the highlights was a perfectly cooked scallop served in a rich, flavorful sauce with mushrooms and vegetables. The balance of the dish was great and the scallop had a beautiful sear. We also had a fresh Caesar-style salad that was loaded with flavor, crisp lettuce, shaved cheese, and crunchy bites that added great texture throughout. Another dish that stood out had an incredible presentation with a rich sauce and carefully placed garnishes that made it almost too pretty to eat. What made the experience even better was the attention to detail throughout the entire meal. Every plate felt intentional and well executed, which made the dinner feel special from start to finish. If you're visiting Auburn and want something that feels elevated and thoughtfully prepared, 1856 is definitely worth experiencing.

Super high-end, well done dishes and some of the best and most kind servers I've ever witnessed. Located right off of campus, this is a convenient place for a special dinner when visiting. We went on a Friday night during camp war eagle and easily got a reservation for the eight course meal and wine pairing. The only thing I would change about the experience is it is just too much food for one person. There was a lot of waste and I felt bad about that. Would prefer an option to share an eight course tasting with another person and I think that would be perfect. I understand that they don't make as much money that way, but the concept might be something to consider - also making it more affordable for students to actually partake.
