For an Express store, the food and other product range is decent, although the prices are higher than the big stores. Service is generally good, but could be better. No ambiance as such, it is a good store. read more

Tesco Stores

The Tesco in Teddington is another mini-supermarket. It is a Tesco Local, so may not have all the…read morespecial offers the nearest superstore does, however, it has an excellent selection, including a small exotic foods section. There is a fairly comprehensive produce section, and a reasonable meat section. Again, there aren't any counters, however the fresh meat and deli section is reasonable. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the store is on a busy high street so again, services folk who may not have a car. There is a car park behind this Tesco, however, it is pay and display, regardless of whether you buy anything in Tesco. All in all, a good small supermarket.

As you imagine this was very traumatic and due to severely concust she threw up multiple times in a bush that happened to have leaves even though it was winter so it must of been evergreen. Anyway in this time of crisis I was in desperate need of water and tissue and where better to go than tescos down the road. I sprited past the mass of people to retrieve water for my dying friend. The people were very helpful in tescos. Just so you know my friend did not die and her eye healed with a yellow bruise. The end.

Wildly surprised…read morebut pleasantly relieved - I mean, where else can I buy good quality udon, kim chee, noodle mixes, frozen dumplings, super thin sliced beef/pork for hotpot and fresh shiitake for a good price? I know Japan Centre has similar quality but the price point is not always right. Chinatown is good for some things (fresh veggies, fresh rice noodle rolls, ramen, etc.) but it's hard to beat the selection at H-Mart. There is good lighting and sufficient aisle space so carts going in opposite directions don't have to awkwardly back out of the aisle so the opposing cart can go first (kind of like the naughty London roads!) - in most grocery stores in Chinatown, you are elbow to elbow with someone else trying to get a damn jar of Hoisin sauce in your overflowing basket. Customer service is lacking, especially when something is out of stock and no one in the store seems to know what is going on or when they will get more. Aside from the cashiers, most people working the floor do not speak English very well. The employees are mainly Korean and Chinese. However, most items are translated to English on labels and signage. I will continue to shop here for quality groceries and I hope they open more locations so that it is easily assessable to more people in London.

Lidl

This Lidl is probably the smaller ones available however it has most of the things I need from fresh vegetables and fruits to frozen or chilled meats and other food items. Personally, I find the quality of Lidl products to be much better than its competitors such as Sainsbury's and Tescos. The fruits/vegetables are a lot more fresh at very affordable prices. I have moved away from spending over £60 a week on my weekly shopping to £15-30 for everything I need for that week. What changed? The store. I now shop at Lidl and I am darn proud to say I do! The only downfall is that there aren't lots to choose from with some items but that is expected for the smaller stores. Also, the lines tend to be very long and not many attendants available. They do however, have random sales of items such as brooms, blankets etc which make the shopping experience very interesting! Oh, did I mention that their pastry and bakery items are to die for? Freshly made, warm and very tasty! Yay to Lidl!

On the shopping front, I try to buy a range of items but each time I go there the item is either not carried at all (but it is by their much smaller Camden store), or is out of stock. On the eating front, I've never been a great fan of Whole Foods' congealed hot section, which is as bad here as it is the world over. However, the cooked to order section here needs improving. I had the beef nachos here the other day and the beef had little flavour and the nachos themselves had a strong flavour of lemon washing up liquid. But the roast is good. Just a little improvement could make this place much better.
Sainsburys

Were this supermarket anywhere else, it would be a Sainsbury's Local, and not have the special offers available that the large, superstores do. However, when they built the capacious Sainbury's nearby, they apparently agreed to keep the little one as a 'proper' Sainsbury's, as it services the Nurserylands estate (a mixture of privately owned homes, council and housing association properties, plus some sheltered housing and older people's housing). Many of the people in the vicinity don't drive, so this is a lifeline for many local residents. This Sainsbury's is quite little. The aisles are narrow, and the selection is, as you'd expect, more limited than you find at the nearby superstore. There are no counters (i.e. deli, meat, fish etc), though you can buy fresh meat and packed fresh fish down the refrigerated aisle. They do bring in fresh bread from the larger store, so you can smell the bread if you're there at the right time. There is a fairly decently sized booze section, and a very small frozen foods section. This is a good shop to pick up bits and pieces, though it doesn't have the selection I need to do a full weekly shop there (though many people do). On the up side, the prices are a the same as at the larger shops, and any special offers they have at the superstore also is offered here. It is good that they have maintained the local shop for the local people.
