As you either have to pay for parking or spend £5 to get the parking ticket validated, I decided I would get a couple of bits, so to not have had a totally wasted journey. I went to the self checkout to pay and was told I was the wrong end, as I had a trolley. I went to the other end, which had a bit of a queue, even though there were tills available. When it was my turn I went to the till, only to be told I couldn't use it as I had a trolley and this till was for baskets. So basically there were tills available, but not for me to use. I approached the happy to help lady and pointed out how ridiculous this was. She was , as the tabard suggested, happy to help and told me just to use one of the tills which were free. What a palaver, just to buy 2 items, and how confusing that you can't use a till that's available, they'd rather have a queue and people waiting unneccarily.

Even though the aisles are long, the categories are clearly marked and you can choose which aisles to walk along and which to skip. The range of products is amazing. Plenty of options for "exotic" foods - Indian masalas, ramens, Korean spice pastes etc. I finally found Fanta lemon that I've been searching for since I got introduced to it 2 months ago in Toledo (I actually thought it may not be available in the U.K.) Love this store, it's much larger & roomier than any other Sainsbury I've been to in London.

Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

They also have 'green' checkouts for customers who don't require plastic bags - cardboard boxes are usually available from behind the checkouts. There is free parking but this does get chocker with 44s, especially at weekends. Unless you have a disability, I recommend parking at the end of the car park. You'll reduce the risk of a BMW X5 reversing into you and you'll have a less stressful shopping experience. Because it's a smallish shop, you'll usually see the bright and breezy manager or deputy manager walking the floor - extremely unusual in today's supermarkets.

Stock is rubbish, and it really has nothing more than food. It is appalling. Don't ever do self scan on any type of large shop, they now scan ALL your shopping again when you get to scan out, because they don't trust anyone. Where before there was a designated checkout for people who self-scanned, they have now lumped it together with usual shopping, so where you can scan out, you now have all the muppets checking out huge trolleys-ful of shopping, and you have to wait ages. Pathetic, and completely useless for the organised people amongst us, who do self-scan for speed. Go to the manned checkouts and get them to do it, since that's their job, and you don't get humiliated and assumed to be a thief, either. As for the car park outside, yes, I know there is building work, BUT that does not excuse what is happening on the first floor car park, where you're lucky if you find a space because of the car wash, electric vehicle chargers, and chauffeur cars who hang out there all day reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. Ok so if you've been to one Aldi you've been to them all…read more They have used the space well to accommodate the Aldi style of selling. The Isles area stocked with the usual Aldi goods. The German and other country versions of the well recognised brands you find I the more expensive supermarkets. The pluses for this shop is the location just up the road from the train station, so whether going to work, well actually not going to work as they don't open until 8am, or coming home from work it is a good location to grab those last minute items, from eggs to flowers and not forgetting that bottle of wine!! The bit which has disappointed me is the fact that they have hung a sign from the ceiling. The sign states that if you are cuing beyond a certain point they will open another till. Not true as I and many other were cuing beyond that point and no more tills were opened!! So Aldi unless you can actually back up that claim, which Tesco used some years back and then binned it as unless you have unlimited staff knocking around doing nothing I doubt you can actually achieve it, do not make that claim!!

The trolleys are found in the entrance by the car park, in case you come walking, you will have to go all the way to the back. Gets messy towards the end of the day, always with only a few lines available, they tend to get long. But the cashiers are lightning-fast! And they are mostly friendly. They charge for the bags, but they are super sturdy. And the options available are really good, never found something looking bad or not fresh, as they claim to be.
