Waitrose on Edgware Road is a decent sized supermarket in a rather central London, Marleybone location. It was my first visit to the store since it now advertises under the name "Waitrose & Partners" but it still is pretty much the same store nonetheless (no change in ownership etc, hence no need for a new listing on Yelp) The store wasn't huge, but it still had a nice range of essentials and maybe slightly more, it was perhaps slightly larger than what one would expect from an average Tesco Express or Little Waitrose, yet of course smaller than your average warehouse-style supermarkets, yet this is common due to being in a central location in London. It has a few counters including for sushi, and a fairly typical range of most products. Prices in most areas weren't bad. The staff members could have been more helpful and outgoing, perhaps more evenly distributed rather than congregating in one specific area of the store near the checkouts. I did only notice one drinks machine, loyalty card holders do get a free drink upon making a purchase which is a cool offer, but this is limited to one per day regardless of how many times (or branches) you visit. Not a bad spot to pick up essentials and more in a decent location. 3*

This is the Lindsay Lohan of markets. It usually looks good and has some nice attributes but now and then the train jumps the track. Sometimes it's the final ingredient in a dish you're ready to make (and where they have everything else). Or sometimes they are just flat out missing a main ingredient, like coca cola, green onions or bourbon. I've also stood in line when they've decided to shut down the line right in front of me, even though I've been standing there for quite some time. On the flip side, there's not much better in the area when it comes to larger markets. And they do have some higher end meats, seafoods and cheeses, plus a decent wine collection. It's "almost" a really good market.

Shopping at Waitrose is expensive, but it's my nearest major supermarket, so when I can't get what I need at the local Tesco Express, I go to Waitrose. I only wish I could afford to shop there all the time! The food is of excellent quality and they have an impressive variety too. It's never crowded and the staff are friendly and helpful. They also have a coffee bar near the front of the store and though I've never bought anything from there myself, I have to say the food always look tempting and the coffee smells great.

One of the reasons I deducted one star is because one of the female cashiers came off as being rude. She said, "If you want a bag, you should've said so" with so much spite. What in the world was going on in her life that she had to take it out on a customer? Meanwhile, on the other spectrum, her coworkers went out of their way trying to help me find shelf stable milk since my hotel didn't have a fridge. So pros: convenient, helps save some money, some of the employees go out of their way to be helpful. Cons: At least one female cashier needs to be spoken to by management about how she talks to customers.

Having every option of meal deal sandwich available may have been a first for me, and they just released the limited edition holiday specialties yum yum yum! The US really needs to get onboard with this prepacked sandwich/wrap/sub/salad/pasta (that are relatively healthy) plus a snack and beverage for $5. It was very busy inside with what I imagine was mostly the regular weekday comminutors. There are many self-checkouts so the line went fast. Advice for visitors: like the vast majority of stores in the UK, make sure you bring your own bag or you will be charged for one.

Their focus here is clearly on apartment ("flat" in Brit-speak) dwellers who have limited kitchen space and limited storage. For example, the packages of kitchen paper and toilet ("loo") rolls are in smaller quantities than the pallet-sized ones you generally find at full size shops. Large selection of pre-made "heat-and-eat" items, ranging from a full Indian meal with starters, mains and sides to whole roasted chickens. This Sainsbury's has a solid produce section with all the major items and the veggies all looked quite fresh. Sandwiches and salads and drinks and chips all up on display for a quick grab-and-go. I imagine this place gets quite busy during the lunch hours on work days.

The staff were lovely and would help with anything, I'm not used to this Sainsbury's as it was my first time coming but I know for sure I will be coming back. Staff actually have a clue what they are doing unlike some other Sainsbury branches. This shop has everything and I would shop here everyday if I could. I have medically diagnosed social anxiety and don't go out a lot, but you could approach staff slowly and speak to them as little as you want and they still would know exactly what you need. Overall if I could I would give this place infinity stars.

Extremely disappointing customer service. Many items arrived damaged…read more Their customer service blamed DPD when the parcel was really poorly packed in the first place, with heavy items on top of lighter ones, a box too large for it's content, and no mention that the parcel was fragile and perishable on the outside of the box. Naturally, I threw in the bin the leaking boxes of soups and inedible broken biscuits and soaking wet Cantal cheese. I then proceeded to contact their customer service to ask for a refund. The day after, they responded to inform me that to receive a refund, I would have to send back the damaged items. I am not in the mood to dig through my bin, and pack leading boxed of soup and biscuits crumbs in plastic bags to avoid causing a mess to DPD drivers. After this, they've asked for more pictures, but the items are now in the building communal bin and for basic hygiene and health and safety reasons, it is not reasonable to ask me to find which bin bag was mine, open it, and locate the products. So I guess all I can do is strongly recommend AGAINST this shop and its extremely poor customer service. (FrenchClick takes ages to deliver but at least, the food from there arrives in decent conditions.) Update: contrary to what their response says, they did not offer to send any replacement in their original email. Update 2: to send replacement, they want me to ship them the damaged items, ie they're asking me to book a DPD delivery for a bin bag. I cannot believe it. Especially since I already put the bin bag in the building communal bin. Update 3: After calling me 3 times in 6 minutes and sending me one email, which I responded to, they're still refusing to find a solution. I informed them that the Consumer Rights Act 2015 says that services must be provided with reasonable care and skill, and in my opinion, they did not use reasonable care and skill when they provided this service. This is unfortunate, but to ensure this doesn't happen to someone else after me, I reported the business to Trading Standards.

It was interesting visiting an English grocery store. First of all this particular store was…read moresmaller than the ones in the United States. Also, English grocery stores aren't laid out the same. For example cookies might be in multiple locations rather than one designated "cookie aisle." Also it was interesting because you had to pay for a shopping cart. They did have a limited number of hand baskets. If they ran out of hand baskets, people would use the bags they brought and add there items into the bags. Then remove them when they got to the counter. It was nice because there weren't long lines, and they had a lot more self-serve kiosks than my local American grocery store.

The family and I were vacationing in South Kensington and this store was ideally located. It's a grocery store that has all the essentials... and more. And by "more", I mean seemingly random stuff like an aisle of non-branded shirts... and a convenience station which apparently provides shoe repair? Item selection for things (particularly vegetables and fruits) seems a little sparse. But admittedly I'm a tourist so perhaps that's expected for the area, climate, and time of year. Checkout is slightly disorganized (again, probably a "tourist ignorance" thing). Recyclable bags are available for pickup on a rail while walking through self-checkout. There's an automated gate that requires a receipt barcode to be scanned before exit is permitted. Ultimately I think this is a store that's 90% grocery store and 10% variety store. Nothing wrong with that but it was just a little surprising.

Despite the size of the store, it was well laid out and easy to find what I was looking for without the need for staff assistance there was also a dedicated area for Amazon orders and returns, with Amazon of course owning Whole Foods. The Kensington Kitchen, Wine Bar and unique food offerings make this a nice place to shop. 4*
