An unexpectedly large Waitrose store in Canada Place of London's business district, Canary Wharf - it is over multiple floors and has much more than what one would expect from Waitrose including a home and clothes section - which one would associate more with Waitrose's sister brand, John Lewis. They did have a pretty large selection in most areas I looked at the store including with desserts, yoghurts (Pots and Co!), to-go food and fruit juices, the latter was actually quite reasonably priced for a freshly squeezed juice. The store did seem to have an annoying habit of making announcements regularly, it felt like I couldn't walk down an aisle without "DING DONG DING DONG", eventually I muttered to myself "Welcome to Waitrose Canary Wharf please note... announcement for..." etc, I get they do need to do this but so constantly is just really irritating. The café area could have been larger however but I was overall impressed with this store in a useful location for Canary Wharf's shopping centres and tube/DLR stations. 4* read more

This place is my little haunt when I pass through Canary Wharf. I can't help but feel drawn to here...with my mind always telling me that I may need to 'pick up' something, like say pasta or milk...only to find that I leave with a scarf, cushion or toilet seat! How does this happen? The food quality is always good and competitive with Marks & Spencer. There's dining to the rear of the lower ground (behind the supermarket). The rotisserie and curry section is VERY popular and good value with office workers popping out at lunchtime. The seating gets really busy at this time too, so best to come early if you dont want to fight for a seat. There's also a yummy oyster bar to the right and a wine bar to the left (the selection is very good). Street level has something for the ladies: handbags, jewellery, shoes, lingerie (I've been pulled in all directions of this place). Then there's toys, travel goods and sportswear. Go up another level to find TV and electricals, furniture, bathroom accessories, soft furnishing, garden furniture, stationery and seasonal Christmas decorations. Has the best beer selection I have seen in a supermarket. And there are regular changes with new interesting options appearing from time to time. For example they not long ago started stocking Saltaire Blonde. Beyond my love of beer I've actually become quite hooked on these Israeli wheat snacks they sell in their small foreign foods section, called Bissli They have a vast range of sandwiches and fruit salads to choose from, more than anywhere else in the neighbourhood. Upstairs there is a John Lewis home section and out in front within the shopping centre the coffee shop where you can get a free coffee or tea with your MyWaitrose card. I've never been able to take advantage though as I have never seen less than 15 people in the queue. read more

Decent waitrose and in particular love the wine bar at the back where you can have a drink with a few friends. The corkage is a tat pricy at £7 but hey overall it's still cheaper than pubs around! I buy lunch here too, and love the queue generally move along pretty quickly! read more

I bought a Samsonite suitcase here and received no service whatsoever. The salespeople were chatting amongst themselves instead of helping me. When I asked the salesperson whether they had Global Blue Tax Free, he didn't know and made me go down two floors to ask at customer support instead of phoning in himself. The suitcase I bought had no instructions on it whatsoever and I couln't find the hidden and unmarked button to open it, so I called the waitrose branch phone and was connected to someone from suitcases, who told me to bring the suitcase in and have it exchanged. When I to there, the guy came down and immediately knew how to open the suitcase. I wasted time, money and patience. I'm not saying all staff are like this, some were super friendly. But I had a really below-average and stupid shopping experience. read more

Good stuff here although some is definitely overpriced. Stay away on Sunday because it's like a creche in here. Otherwise, I like the size of the place. The seafood selections are nice as are the cheese and wine - I always find the bakery items look good but the bread is always harder than rocks and they're meant to be right out of the oven. There is parking upstairs - I think 3hrs free on Sunday - for the drivers. It's right inside the mall so other shops nearby. read more

This is like the Whole Foods equivalent. Not a place to do your regular grocery shopping but when on the company dime this is a great place to spend your allowance. They have great hot food in the back and a selection of lunch sandwiches, fruits, nuts etc. for the rest of the day. It ain't cheap but it's good. read more

Quite possibly one of the best supermarkets in London. It has a good selection of high quality groceries, an excellent wine cellar and upstairs areas that sell homewares, clothing and hifi (like John Lewis). It loses a star though, because it used to have a fab restaurant at the back that did an awesome curry for £4.50 which has been replaced by a boring heated shelf that just has pots, and also because the salad bar is gone. The pasta salad they did was so tasty and now it is no more :( read more

Waitrose is the lesser of the evils as far as supermarkets go in the Canary Wharf area. It's the biggest and certainly doesn't come up short in terms of variety. And when I mean variety, I mean everything from organic duck legs to a lobster dinner for two in a plastic box. There are plenty of practical foods for sale as well, but are generally more expensive than what you would find at Tesco or Sainsburys. The upside is that Waitrose is really good if you have dietary restrictions. There's a good gluten free section and lots of choices for vegetarians. It's also much cleaner than your run-of-the-mill grocery store and has a better selection of organic meats and produce. Here's the downside - It's expensive. There's no getting around that. It's also hopelessly crowded around lunchtime on weekdays and all weekend long. The checkout lines aren't the quickest and the self scanning area only accepts debit/credit cards (no cash). read more

I got a phone call from my friend saying she's in the area and if I wanted to meet for a drink after work. This was the one day I needed one. It was one of those bad days at work. She asks me to meet her at the bar in Waitrose. Yes that's right Waitrose. If you have not been to the Canary Wharf branch then you will not know that it is directly under John Lewis and in the main shopping mall area. I had walked past the bar a few times whilst doing some grocery shopping and thought how odd but today was the day where shoppers will be looking at me saying "how odd". My friend was waiting with a glass of white wine for herself and a prosecco for me. Guess the day started to actually get better. May I add she also got a small platter of breads, houmous, pickles, pâté and cheeses. I could kiss her but I decided not to, however, the platter and drinks were totally yum and not as expensive as I thought it would be. For me the highlight was to be able to catch up with my friend, to people watch and to hear the different conversations happening around me. From difficulty on deciding to stick with his pension, a woman complaining about her rebellious son and the couple fed up of their jobs. My bad day of work started to seem quite little compared to these people's lives. So if you work in the area, want to shop and have a drink or simply want to people watch and hear the different stories of people sitting around you then do pop over. read more

This supermarket is a bit tucked away in Canary Wharf, but it was conveniently next to my work. It was the perfect place to pop into on the way to or from work, or at lunch, for some healthier* food (bank cafeteria food is delicious buuut... not the healthiest). They have a great selection of produce, meats, salads, and anything else you could possibly want. read more

Although Waitrose has several floors, some dedicated to home good while the lower level is a grocery store, this review is for the grocery area. When travel to London and staying in the Canary Wharf area, I've found this place to meet all my needs. I like coming here as the fruit is always fresh and there is a size able selection. Then there is rows and rows of fresh ready to eat foods which is always nice to grab for the person staying at a nearby hotel. I also like the fact that I can pick up several liters of bottled water, beer and other beverages as well. So, if your like me where you like to have some ready to eat food stuff, whether it be healthy or junk food, then Waitrose is the place to come as there is a good selection, not to mention if you forgot to pack something, you can get all right here in one store. read more

This "Waitrose Food & Home" is a food shopper's dream. Large, spacious and full of nicer food options... think high-end Tesco. If Waitrose is out of your budget for everyday food shopping, why not just pick up a few things to impress your dinner guests? While you're at it, you could head upstairs for the duvet cover or other household needs, then pay for it all together, either on the food or household/clothing floors. Once you have all your goods, Canary Wharf Underground Station is just an underground stroll away. It couldn't get more convenient than that. This location is a Waitrose Food and Home location meaning that it has John Lewis as well as a massive Waitrose with catering options underneath. I like this Waitrose as it has a car park with 2 hours of free parking all week long. Great quality food and the service we've come to expect from Waitrose. A win win in my book! read more

This is a nice Waitrose and has a dominant position in Canary Wharf (Canada Place) The store has many section, a great fish and meat counter and even a wine bar for those of you that are stressing over work too much! They got a good clothes section on the second floor and then above that you have electircal. Considering it's position it is really large and is essentially a full size supermarket. Waitrose. This Waitrose store is located in Canary Wharf. The supermarket is quite big and it sells a lot of home accessories but mainly it sells food. The variety of the food is really nice, they have a lot of good know brands and also food made by themselves: hot meals ready to eat and a salad counter where you can prepare your own salad with a lot of different ingredients. This supermarket is so big that even has a sushi bar inside where you can have a bite if you are hungry. The quality is the usually Waitrose one so you can expect very good food with not the cheapest prices but you get what you are paying for. read more

As if this could be compared to Whole Foods? The staff are great, I have no complaints there. What really lets this place down is the produce and how it's displayed. You pay the equivalent of Whole Foods prices but the produce is poor in comparison and it's terribly laid out and presented. I don't know why businesses in the UK don't spend more time looking at how fresh food is presented and sourcing the best quality produce. Mediocrity seems to be the rule here. They should stop with prepackaged fresh produce! Just have a trained butcher and fishmonger with a counter full of delicious looking and well sourced ingredients. Fruit and vegetables should be carefully presented in displays that keep them looking fresh and crisp. Surely the owners should go to NYC and have a look at Whole Foods and Dean & Deluca. London is missing out on great retail experiences and UK companies need to stop getting away with plain average retail practices. read more

I have a confession to make. I really LOVE supermarket shopping. Especially in Waitrose. Especially in the Canary Wharf store. I know that might sound strange, coming from a 22 year old, who should, by rights, be going out on the lash every night, but I get such joy over pushing my trolley up and down the aisles, examining the latest products and the latest delights. Lavender and lemon scented cupcakes? Yes please! Waitrose, Canary Wharf, is a pleasurable experience. It is, slightly expensive, but it is of my belief that you get what you pay for and the quality of the produce is good and you get such a fantastic range. It is also impossible to walk in for just a pint of milk - you will get sucked in by the alluring displays and the free tasting sessions they hold almost daily. Yes, I know the whole point of these displays and sessions is to get you, the consumer, into their sticky holds, but it's just so enjoyable! Smoked salmon, caviar, fine wines, chocolate - just some of the things on offer to try. The store is a little cluttered in places - but everything is well laid out and reasonably easy to find. If not, the staff are helpful and will help you out with a smile. It's also worth checking in around 7pm - when much of the food is reduced - handy for the evenings dinner! You can also rest in peace that Waitrose is more eco-friendly than most, so you'll also be doing your bit for the enviroment. Now where is my bag for life? read more

Waitrose Canary Wharf- wow! It is by far the most fun you can have doing the food shop. Everything is well laid out and there is such a big selection of not just food, but also electricals, duvet covers, and clothes. I literally spend hours in there. Notably different from other supermarkets are the staff; they are friendly and attentive and seem to know what they are talking about. I've often been in there and they have some soft classical music playing and free tasting sessions down almost every aisle! Waitrose will not stop sending me spam email. I have hit the unsubscribe button multiple times. I have contacted customer service several times, which resulted in me being told I will be removed off the list within 2 weeks. I used to do email marketing, I know it is a procedure that takes less than 30 seconds to do. Yes it is just an email, yes it is easy to just hit delete. Probably one of the best hidden secrets for Canary Wharf, is the Steak & Oyster Bar inside Waitrose Food & Home in Canada Place. Yes, I'll admit, it's a bit weird to be eating a steak dinner in the middle of a grocery store but once you have tried it, you'll go back! Off to the side, next to the meat section, is a food bar with about 12 stools which are generally always full. The wine selection is decent, steaks are grilled fresh, right in front of you and most every time I've eaten there, they have been perfect. I generally get the 7oz fillet, which is flavourful and delicious and comes with your choice of root vegetables, chips or mash and a big side salad for about £14 - so not overly pricey for what you get! Although I haven't tried them, the oysters and mussels look very tasty as well and I've heard compliments from other customers to this effect. Service can sometimes be frustrating as they have one chef and one person minding the customers. But then again, you're coming here for the food - not for the stellar service. At some point in the meal when you are getting a slight buzz from the wine and that oh-so-good feeling from eating really nice food, you just might forget you are in a supermarket. This is so much more than an ordinary supermarket (although it does all the usual stuff as well). First, it has a walk in wine cellar which is climate controlled and has expert staff to guide you through the process of choosing expensive and not so expensive bottles. Second, it has a wine bar where you can open these bottles in situ. Third it has a mini-restaurant that actually serves half decent food. Fourth, there is what amounts to a mini John Lewis upstairs. Oh Waitrose, the butt of so many jokes these days... how glorious you are. :) To be honest I was one of those people who kinda avoided going here under the impression it was too expensive, despite it being nearby... how glad I am that I finally gave them a chance, because now it's my one stop shop for groceries whether I'm popping in or doing a full shop. The truth of the matter is that you can spend more in here, but somehow I never really managed to... my total bill tended to be in the ballpark as it would anywhere else. I think some of it depends on what type of things you tend to buy, the quality you expect, and where you buy it from. For me in particular one of the reasons I switched is that when I wasn't going here I was popping down to the Tesco Express that is literally beside the flat. (A tiny one, not the medium sized one by Canary Wharf DLR.) To be honest I haven't done any item by item comparisons between this Tesco and a large Tesco, but I imagine they are charging more for some items... either that or the Tesco / Waitress battle is blown out of proportion, because I have compared prices between that particular Tesco and this particular Waitrose... more often than not Waitrose was cheaper so I eventually jumped ship for most items because going through Waitrose is a real joy if you're not in a rush. OK, so "joy" may sound a little strong, but compared to so many big supermarkets it is a bit more fun to stroll through and check out the treats compared to other large supermarkets... and, while you can get cheaper Waitrose brand items, the quality is always up to par... they seem to have done good job in weeding out crap items to be honest, so while you may not find something to your particular taste it will probably be down to personal preference versus the quality of the item. This particular branch doesn't have aisles upon aisles of health care items, shampoo, etc., but there's a Boots right out side if you need more variety in that realm. There's also a John Lewis up the escalator, and while they don't offer a huge range compared to the city, it's a definite nice to have... they are somewhat separate though, you can't take you groceries upstairs to pay and vice versa... at least last I checked. Even when busy checkout here never seems to be too much of an issue... they have lots of cashiers and a good number of basket only and self checkouts so things generally move along smoothly which is appreciated. They also do a fun, again... not sure it's the right use of the word, scan as you go along and pay yourself type scenario... you have to have a Debit or Credit Card linked to your Waitrose card for this to work however. So, yes, Waitrose is the butt of many jokes... but there's worse things to be made fun for when the actual reality is that it's not that bad or prohibitively expensive by any means, and for me if there were a minor extra cost it would be a worthwhile trade off for the more pleasant experience and friendly service. I still get my Tesco delivery for crates of Diet Cola and such items that I purchase regularly and/or aren't easy to carry, don't get me wrong, but for in person shopping this is now my go to place. read more

Was looking for a "travel adaptor" so that I could use my U.S. appliance in a UK outlet. My U.S. plug has the 3 prong (pin) plug versus the standard 2 prong (pin) and it has been difficult to find an adaptor. Was directed to Waitrose and was amazed at how crowded it was on a weeknight. Guess everyone stops by Waitrose on their way home from work to pick up various items. The deli looked pretty good, will have to return. read more

There is no Customr Service! The Staff are ALWAYS chatting to each other even if serving customers. There is chatting and laughing in all corners of the shop-seems like they are on holiday. Living in the neighbourhood, our two options for grocery stores are essentially ASDA and Waitrose. I prefer ASDA for things on the shopping list like washing up liquid, paper towels and canned veg as the prices are much cheaper. Waitrose is the only place nearby to buy the quality produce and especially fish. There are some interesting bottles of beer here as well, but the selection could be better. All in all a good supermarket and one where you can expect quality and expect to pay for it. It doesn't matter for most products but when you want something fresh, this is the place to go. read more

Pretty much how one would expect a Waitrose to be - a located in a very god location with plenty of shop space in the Canary Wharf shopping mall. There is a nice selection of fresh produce (fruits, veg), chilled and frozen food as well as other food supplies and sauces. I personally like the floors above the mall level, with the assortment of clothing, entertainment and gift/gadgets as they generally have some interesting things not available in other stores in the mall. There is also the electronics section but would not personally buy any of those items - let's just say it is our of my budget read more

This is a huge Waitrose - all the normal Waitrose things you'd expect, and a few things you wouldn't. The champagne aisle is pretty big too. So are the toilets - they're not just some little cubby hole tacked on for the sake of the press release, they're pleasant, roomy, and regularly cleaned. Its also a place to go celeb-spotting, when they least expect it! After all, even they have to buy their food from somewhere, right? And of course, what you can do as a visitor to the area, especially during the summer, is buy some lovely picnic foods here and eat out in the beautiful public spaces around Canary Wharf. Preferably with a river view, to admire the water taxis and the opposite bank, and this is really the only big shop where you can buy the makings to do that. read more

Review for Waitrose Canary Wharf I really like this particular Waitrose supermarket. It has a large expansive range, good service, lots of checkouts and fresh quality produce. I also particularly appreciate how you can get a lot of produce at greatly reduced prices so in effect you can shop at Waitrose for much better value than you would expect. Given its location in the WHARF it's a great place to shop for the local workers and residents. I think this is the best waitrose ever because it is huge so has all the food you need but also provides other exciting things like TVs, computers, duvet covers, cameras, clothes etc. thanks to the John Lewis bit upstairs. If you like Waitrose in general than you will love this place. When I first had a look round many years back I'd never known anything like it. It has little eating places (small cafe like bits) in the supermarket selling very nice looking food indeed. We didn't eat at these places - I'm sure it was a bit more expensive than my take away sandwich but if you are one of the other half from the how the other half live types then this is the place to do your grocery shopping in style. read more

If you want a butcher then there's a counterlikewise seafooda fruit counter. somewhere you can buy roasted chickens. Pretty much everything you will need you can find here. Plus not to mention the huge array of alcoholic beverages. But as you would imagine, it ain't cheap. If you can afford it, the quality is great. The queues aren't too bad. There are another couple of floors full of clothes an shoes for women, men and children and another floor with electronics and home wear. Its always worth a browse. read more
