I frankly haven't changed much over the years. I stayed in South Kensington. I loved it. Across from Gloucester Road tube station was this Waitrose. It had everything that I needed. I tend to get lemons and make lemon tea in the morning. Waitrose had lemons, so I got three that lasted my entire stay. The baked goods section is excellent. I got croissants here. They were flaky, buttery, and yummy. I got some peanut brittle, too. It was so good. Butter tends to make anything taste better. I remember seeing self-checkouts here. I ended up wanting a human. I do a lot of London routes, so I usually end up grocery shopping here because it's right across from our hotel. Although it's a lot more expensive than Sainsbury, the quality is better and they have more items. Some of my favorites are the Boursin Cheeses. Classic French cheeses made in Normandy! The pepper one is fabulous, and I put them on my salmon and is very good. You can't find them in America, so it's always a treat for me when I get them. Another product I like is the Little Island Coconut Infused Coffee. Very tasty, but they always seem to run out everytime I visit. read more

A medium-sized branch of this upmarket supermarket, situated in the shopping arcade built over Gloucester Road underground station. It has all the staples that Waitrose is known for, albeit on a smaller scale: nice veg, a large organic section, a deli counter, a large and excellent wine selection (clearly they think Kensington residents can make do with a more limited choice of food but dare not skimp on the booze - probably a wise and accurate decision!). Lots of ready meals, though, reflecting its location. The downside for many will be the complete lack of car parking nearby, although there is an NCP car park on the other side of the Cromwell Road (ironically closer to Sainsbury's). The other downside is a limited number of tills, (due to lack of space) so queues can form at busy periods. read more

I thought cheese was a Dutch/French thing, but this collection here is better then I have ever seen. Also the salades and fish department... love it! Nice market directly outside of Gloucester station. I really enjoyed their selection of cheeses, snacks and wine (the selection earns them 2 stars): HOWEVER. Checking out was an embarrassing nightmare. The clerk loudly and imperiously berated me for something I didn't do. Twice - making sure to add insult to injury! It was obvious she felt I was a low-class tourist up to no good. I highly recommend this Waitrose location if you are looking for some BDSM-style humiliation with your groceries. Allergen Alert!!! Waitrose had plenty on their shelves to accommodate my dairy allergies, including cocoa drink! The fresh fruits and veggies were at the entrance, breads in the center, beer in back. The only problem i had was the self checkout, i had waited in line, checked my groceries and ran my card but was declined for required signature verification, which apparently cannot happen at the self checkout. I was on a mission. I could not leave England without two items in my suitcase: the latest issue of Living Etc. Magazine and a package of McVities Digestive Biscuits.* We had stopped into a bookstore earlier in the day and they were without a periodical section. Ugh. We were already into day 2 of our 4 day stay and I was without either magazine nor biscuits. Luckily we found a Waitrose grocery store just around the corner from our hotel... The magazines were easy to find, two large racks located right near the cash registers. The biscuits on the other hand were a little trickier... but Waitrose isn't too big...so its not hard to track down the item you're looking for. We found the biscuits a few aisles down nestled between the cookies and candy. Ah, McVities Digestive Biscuits, perfect little round cookies ideal for tea drinking and dunking. Most of the varieties were represented at Waitrose and I picked up a twin package of chocolate dipped biscuits for £2*. Plenty of cashiers were open so we were in and out in just a few minutes. Magazines + cookies = a happy Alyssa. Mission complete. * Don't they sell the same magazines back in the States? Well, yes they do. But even after the conversion rate the magazines are several dollars cheaper than the copies sold back in NY at Barnes & Noble. Same goes for the biscuits... ** £2 sounds like a good price! I had dropped by to grab some ready-made dinner because I just wanted to relax instead of going back out when I got hungry later on my last day in London. It was prime time at 7pm and there was a ton of people there! I got sushi and 2 bottles of cider which was on sale luckily... and while waiting in line, which goes pretty fast, when I got to the counter I absent mindedly put one of the bottles standing up after the cashier took the first one so I can grab my wallet.... it slow motion fell over......... CLANKKKKK!!! Yikes. Liquid and glass everywhere. I apologized and said "I should probably go grab another one eh?" The cashier said yes so off I went. When I came back another attendant was already putting paper towels down and I guess my initial cashier went on break so a different one helped me and apologized and also advised me to lay it don next time which I very much appreciated. They were so nice about it. The sushi was fine-nothing fancy but they don't seem to give you soy sauce .... usually it comes with it in the box. read more

Ohhhh the friendly neighborhood Waitrose. How I loved you. Living in South Kensington was amazing but it could be a real DOOZY on my wallet. The closest grocery store to my flat was a gourmet store so I walked my arse to this Waitrose quite frequently. This location was always busy, but that also guaranteed a consistently packed and fresh produce section. I had a love affair with Waitrose's brand of "perfectly balanced" products - all easy to identify with its simple, streamlined green packaging (I am a marketer's dream). No joke, I lived for nearly a year on all of Waitrose's Perfectly Balanced items - trying everything from sensibly prepared salads to my favorite hummus. Considering this location (in a very, very nice and ritzy neighborhood), prices aren't bad here and the quality is always high. Miss you, Waitrose! read more

Waitrose offers high quality brands(both Waitrose and Name Brand) at semi-affordable to very affordable prices. They often price match with Tesco and even if they don't they are usually only a few pence more. I am trying to think of an adequate comparison for Waitrose from the US market and I am drawing a blank. They offer a similar quality to Bristol Farms, but without the steep price. For a student living on a budget you would think that I would head straight to Tesco, but I am finding more and more that Waitrose is the better option. Their frozen meals are LIGHT-years ahead of Ralph's or Albertson's(US Supermarket chain) meals in quality while still keeping the price low. I still have to try their fresh food, meats and fruit, but from what I've had I love Waitrose. Great super market that I wish we had in LA. read more

Waitrose Italian Bean Soup holds the key to my very poor and hungry heart. You can buy a huge container of this delicious hearty soup for under 2 pounds and have a good three meals out of it. Add a fresh baguettte to dip into the rich, thick tomato-ey broth and you've got yourself a meal on the cheap. I bought a container of their Moroccan Chicken which I had for dinner last night (and to my surprise, loved every spoonful) and have yet to taste the Minestrone that awaits me in the fridge. I can't decide if every other review is from an American because a) lots of ex-pats live in this area and/or b) not enough Brits use Yelp. Every single one of my American friends is obsessed with Waitrose. When I tell people my new apt is one block away from 'big Waitrose' they all know exactly where I live. Someone explained it to me like Whole Foods but not as expensive. My British friend said 'none of us will save £ by shopping at Waitrose.' The store is fine. It's clean. it's full of Americans, Europeans and tourists staying at nearby hotels. I haven't found the produce anything exciting but do think their prepared chickens look great. I will use this as the place to run when in a pinch - milk, eggs, etc. - AND for the wine and spirits selection. Otherwise though, you'll find me bulk shopping at Sainsburys. And management, would it really be so hard to actually order enough Waitrose loyalty cards? I find it pretty annoying to go week after week and you still have none in store but signing up online means a 6 weeks wait for a card. The program didn't just start yesterday.... read more

While I was visiting London, I stayed with a close friend who lives in South Kensington. After a day of sightseeing while my friend was at work, I'd start to head back on the tube around 6 in the evening and stop off at Waitrose on my way back. I'd pick up groceries to prepare a great dinner for the evening. Waitrose has a perfect location - right next to the Gloucester tube station. I love Waitrose as much as I love Whole Foods because they have a great selection. Their produce selection is huge, and they have nearly everything else you could want. Their meat cuts are great. They carry a lot of premade foods and dinners. Many international specialties are found as well as fresh herbs. Their fresh breads and croissants are delicious. Staff are very helpful. The place was always packed whenever I was there but I never waited in line longer than five minutes. The layout of the store can be confusing (eggs are on the opposite end of the store and hard to find). However, staff were able to assist me each time I was looking for something. Prices weren't as agreeable as Tesco - but you get what you pay for. Waitrose's quality far exceeds that of Tesco's. I wish we had these in the US - along with everything they sell. I'm sick of American grocers with corn-syrup laden, processed food. I miss you Waitrose! read more

Many a meal was had from this Waitrose during 2 weeks in London. The Thai Chicken soup and the Kerala Chicken soups were favorites. The deli is a good bet for dinner. The spicy Thai chicken wings were especially tasty. The curry meal is a good deal. The curry changes from day to day. They have a meat or veg option along with rice for 5 pounds or so. Fresh baguettes and a nice selection of cheeses and pate. Thought Waitrose had better quality food than the Sainsbury nearby. As a 7 years customer, I was always happy with the products and I can say even the services from them. I didn't know actually, that if you have a complain you will dismissed without an answer to your complain and they believe that they are more superior to their customer. I have bought 2 gift cards and I ask at the till to be top it up with a certain amount. the gift cards was a present for someone and when that person try to use them the balance was zero. when we have looked on the receipts, we have realized that the cards numbers they are not a match. The girl at the till she top up her own gift cards, not the one what I have given to her...I was after few days at the shop and talk with one of the store managers, Luke, if I am not mistaken. Instead to try to investigate what really happened, he was dismissive, he ask me for the gift cards what was on the receipts. I explain to him that I do not have that one, as his employee gave me other cards. instead to check their Rota- employee schedule to see who worked at the till at that time, he ask me to describe her. when I told to him, that I really can't remember how she looked like, he invite me to leave the store. This grocery store is expensive. We can here with the intention of just getting the basics to go, however, this was like the equivalent of Safeway at home. Sadly this was the only store open late enough. We had to let some groceries go. The first thing I do when in the UK is find out if there's a Waitrose nearby as the variety on offer is magical. (Foodies gotta supermarket.) This is a very busy store inside the Gloucester Arcade by Gloucester Rd tube station, but it is very well stocked. The selection of take-away foods is fantastic when you're on the go, but they also have a wide variety of deli counters. If I was heading straight home from London I would've been buying lovely cheeses here and putting them in a cooler bag in my suitcase. read more

Just came back from Gloucester Road Waitrose. Was at the shelf check out till and just experienced the rudest employee (a young man) from a grocery store I've ever come into contact with. I was so taken a back from his actions toward me. Basically there was an error at the till once I got there and I called him over for his help and was yelled out for getting the error. Really condescending and just so out of the blue. It's funny because I actually work at head office and I'm really disappointed at the staff who work at this branch. Living in London for a few months, I did almost all of my shopping at Waitrose. Sainsbury's down the road has a larger selection, but the walk was a bit far for me so Sainsbury's it was. The prepared foods were generally pretty good, and the overall selection of meats and pastas were pretty good as well. I was visiting from Chicago during Thanksgiving holiday and stayed with a friend who lived nearby. This is a wonderful grocery. I love the unique prepared foods, the deli and cheese counter is fantastic. The staff wears really cool hats. The wine selection is solid. The produce is bountiful and varied. This location is next to Gloucester Tube and perfect for grabbing a quick bite. I am now officially a Waitrose tea addict. I only brought one box home...back to London once it runs out. read more

Waitrose at Gloucester road is a conveniently located store, near to the station, with a variety of quality products. Their ripe avocados are the best! The store has also been recently refurbished and is now undoubtedly the best in the area. They also offer a delivery system whereby they will deliver your food to your house after you have shopped around the store, so no nasty replacements like other stores! Also although there is no car park they do offer a carry to car service, free of charge, so as long as you are parked near your shopping will be delivered to the car for you by one of their friendly partners. read more
