I like Tesco - the produce is great, there's plenty of choice, and it's a nice shop overall. Unfortunately, the customer service lets it down. Every time I visit, the staff at the tills seem rude, unfriendly and unhelpful. With the cost of groceries being so high, customers who are spending a lot of money deserve to be treated with courtesy and respect.
On my most recent visit, I had a handheld shopping basket in my trolley and accidentally brought it past the till while unloading my shopping. It beeped, and before I even had a chance to move it back, I was shouted at by the staff member on the till and spoken to as though I were a child. It was unnecessary and quite embarrassing.
This isn't an isolated incident - it seems to happen every time I shop here. Tesco has a lot going for it, but the attitude and manner of some staff members really detract from the experience. I think staff would benefit from additional customer service training, particularly in how to speak to and treat paying customers with respect and professionalism.
