She made helpful suggestions and explained the flavor profile of each ice cream flavor I asked about, as if she was a sommelier. I ordered the horchata ice cream flavor in a waffle cone. It was creamy, milky, and had wonderful cinnamon notes. The other flavor had peanut butter. I think it was called peanut butter melt away. I heard it was good but I didn't try it because I was so happy with my own cone. I would definitely check out this spot if you're in the mountains near Sylva. Their homemade treats are yummy.

They make marshmallows, but also turtles (called catamount paws here), nut brittles, sugar plums, chocolate coated orange peel and ginger. They also make beautiful truffles including unique flavors such as lavender and scuppernong wine. You can take truffle making classes if you're in town; they have them for both kids and adults! They also ship their products, including special packaging for warm weather for an extra fee, so if you're not nearby you can still get a taste! The fellow at the counter was very friendly and chatty. Definitely a spot to stop in Sylva.

The bagging at the staffed registers is not professional. Fruit should not be bagged with cleaning supplies and hot and cold items should not be put in the same bag. It's just too much trouble to shop here.

It's especially annoying because of their high prices. It's the only game in town so they charge what they want. When I first moved here, I tried to order a bucket of chicken from there only to be told that they were out of chicken breast. I replied, that's fine, just fill it with what you've got. Her reply was that they aren't allowed to do that. I asked what I could order instead and she informed me that I'd have to buy each piece individually. This Saturday I needed rolls and didn't want to drive all the way in to clayton. I picked up rolls off the rack in Hiawassee. A few hours later I took them out of the package and the bottoms were covered in mold. I realize it's my fault for not checking. It's been a while since I needed to check and I just didn't do it. But at this point I won't go back. Not even in an emergency.
