Initially we were going for the idea of breakfast, but timing was a bit off from what we anticipated and it was a really nice lunch date instead. I love the Markham Marriott, the staff is always warm and welcoming. Draco has a very sleek, sophisticated and cozy atmosphere. We both ordered Bacon & Cheddar burgers. I opted for a Caesar salad as an appetizer and hubby ordered their Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak. Let's start with the apps. The Caesar salad was SO good! I wish I had taken a pic, but admittedly, my phone was tucked away and I was caught up in the cozy seating, great food and Christmas vibes of the restaurant and lobby. Grilled Wagyu Flat Iron Steak: $33 - Buttercup Squash Puree and Truffle Oil - Everything you want Wagyu to be - tender, cooked to the perfect temp which left a nice warm red centre. This was melt in your mouth good! The burgers - these were perfection! Draco Bacon Cheddar Burger: $25 - Aged Cheddar with Crispy Bacon Strips; Crispy Onion Straws, Arugula and Garlic Aioli. This was a very well seasoned patty, so juicy and a substantial sized patty of fresh not frozen beef. The bun was lightly toasted, bacon crispy, easily taking this into my top 3 fav spots for burgers! Options for sides include fries, sweet potato fries, poutine, side Caesar or garden salad or truffle fries. We finished off our meal with 2 really good cappuccinos and just took our time before heading home. This was our first time back here in a few years. The food was exceptional as was the service and the warm staff. Draco is the perfect spot for an early morning breakfast, work or lunch date or a nice cozy dinner. We've dined indoors and in their outdoor covered patio - overall a romantic traditional space and I particularly liked that the patio was secluded with greenery, white glass framed windows, and had the sounds of the trickling small water fountain. We ordered some appies: -Escargot Tartan (interesting to try, texture and taste similar to a denser mushroom) -Stracciatella & Caviar (rich and creamy balanced with the salty bursts of caviar) -Pain au lait (the brioche was nice and fluffy) Mains: -Nova Scotia lobster linguine bisque (initially didn't look like there were a lot of lobster meat, but in between the pasta were some generous chunks) -Ribeye (I thought the potato tart component stood out with the textures!!) Then dessert: -Seasonal mille feuille (great, no notes) Overall - I felt like I was transported to a French upscale inn and would love to come back. Next time, we were recommended their foie gras, scallops & frog legs, and Sole Meunière (fish dish meant for 2 people where the server carves it in front of you - I did notice the fish appeared pretty small. Maybe an option if you wanted a lighter main)

That farmhouse setting is still what gives Auberge its charm. Standing at the entrance, the busy…read moreroads and office towers seem to disappear, replaced by a calm, almost country-like atmosphere. The dining room feels cozy yet elegant, and while the tables are a little closer together than expected for such a refined space, it somehow adds warmth rather than distraction. Comfort arrives immediately with the amuse-bouche - gougères filled with molten cheese and topped with a touch of ham. They're incredibly satisfying, yet surprisingly light despite the rich filling. If that's not enough indulgence, order the pain au lait ($16). Served piping hot, the soft buttery bread releases an intoxicating aroma that becomes even better slathered with cultured butter. It's the kind of bread that makes you accidentally eat far more than intended. After such a rich start, I expected the boeuf consommé ($30) to continue in the same comforting direction. Instead, the broth carried an unexpected acidity, perhaps from the smoked celeriac, that gave it a lighter feel. Alongside the raw squash and generous barley, the soup ended up feeling fresher than cozy. Thankfully, the short rib and caramelized onion raviolo was excellent: plump, perfectly cooked, and packed with flavour. The rib eye in the boeuf ($90) was the standout of the evening. Cooked to a beautiful medium rare, it was tender while still maintaining a lovely crust. Interestingly, the steak was cut thick and compact, almost resembling a tenderloin, yet still delivered the marbled richness that makes rib eye so satisfying. Every accompaniment worked well with it, from the sourdough crumble and pomme espuma to the pickled shallot gel, crunchy broccolini, and silky red wine jus. It's one of the better mains I've had at Auberge in years. At this point, I was stuffed (we may have had a second helping of pain au lait) so I sampled desserts from the rest of the table. The macarons ($25) are ideal for sharing, with six per order. The caramel flavour was denser than expected, though my fellow diners assured me the pistachio version was far superior. Auberge's cheese plate ($14 per oz) remains a popular option. Diners can choose from a selection of hard, soft, and blue cheeses, priced by weight. My husband selected a Beemster-style cheese that paired beautifully with honey, berry compote, and crostini. Simple, but very satisfying. Surprisingly, the restaurant was fairly quiet on our Friday night visit aside from a birthday celebration happening in the private dining room. The calmer atmosphere likely helped service shine. Something about Auberge feels more relaxed now. The dining room is brighter, tables are grouped closer together in the centre, and the overall vibe feels livelier and less stuffy than before. Our waiter joked comfortably with guests while still delivering polished service. At one point, a server even cut garlic bread into bite-sized pieces for a child at a neighbouring table without being asked. Small gestures like that say a lot.

Perhaps it was the holiday season, we weren't given any water or acknowledgments 30 minutes after we were seated. Crispy on the skin, and the salmon was cooked perfectly with it being juicy and tender and very silky-smooth. The striploin was cooked just the way we asked - medium rare. The red velvet cake was a nice touch to finish off our evening, but the cream cheese frosting was a little bit sweet to our liking. Other than that, the cake itself was soft and moist. After looking at the website and seeing the menu and the pictures of the restaurant, I had high hopes for this place. I should have known better than to judge a book (or a restaurant, in this case) by its cover. They present the image of a trendy, high-end restaurant in Downtown Markham. The décor, menu and price point suggests this. The quality of food and service suggests otherwise. I ordered the truffle pizza, but it felt more like an unsuccessful attempt at any truffle or pizza. It was a mash/paste with just a drop of truffle oil, smeared on a toasted store-bought naan. Without any chew to the "dough", it was all crunch like a thick piece of cracker. The paste and cheese were mushy, no stringy texture to the cheese as one would expect with pizza. Although the hostess and servers were pleasant, it was apparent they were not friendly and were simply going through the motions of their duties. Upon being seated, the restaurant was nearly empty with only 1 other table of diners. However, the place felt busy (like at dim sum on a weekend) if you closed your eyes, as the bar area was occupied by the staff (looked like the management team, according to the profile pictures on the website). Judging by what they were saying it was clear that they were simply chatting amongst themselves, but at the expense of ruining what would have been a pleasant ambiance. The oddest thing was when the hostess came over to our table, at the end of our meal, to scrape crumbs off the table. Only it was not with a crumb scrapper, but with a towel and brushing off crumbs that were not there, off of the place mats. That was about as successful as using a broom to clean carpet. Unless things change quickly, it will only be a matter of time before they start offering deals via Groupon. I don't think I would return to this restaurant - even if the prices were slashed by half. A high note of this restaurant is its beautiful décor and location. Unfortunately, this does not overcome the flaws in its food and service. read more

This restaurant is certainly not what I expected. Cleanliness issues where everywhere and there is a real feeling of cutting costs at this restaurant. The inside temperature was on the cool side and my daughter was shivering. The waiter responded with surprise and a smirk when we asked for the temperature to be turned up a little. We put the lack of detail cleanliness and temperature aside telling ourselves if the food was good it would make up for it. We both ordered the steak frites. When the food came it looked ok, but on tasting the beef itself had little flavour and what flavour was present was an unpleasant one that I have never experienced from a piece of beef! I'm not sure if the meat was a little off or if some odd seasoning had been applied. It was, however, well cooked. The quality of taste however was so bad that neither of us could eat it and at this point decided to go to another restaurant. (the only time I've done this in my life!) On giving the feedback to one of the waitresses, she was very nice and receptive seeming to understand exactly what we were talking about. She asked if we would please tell all of this to the maitre d'. He on the other hand was not receptive to hear our feedback, suggesting that the cut of beef was why the flavour was as we experienced. I explained that I have eaten in many French restaurants and had this cut of beef many times too and it never had a metallic, chemical-like flavour to it. I also expressed my surprise that they advertise a chef trained by Jean-George Vongrichten (some of the best meals I've eaten were in his restaurants). He seemed angry. We paid for our drinks and went to Il Postino. I would suggest that the rating on Open Table and Google is not at all accurate for this place. The Keg would be far superior. read more

Went to this place with friends. The parking lot is a bit hard to find, but there are plenty spaces. The service was quick and attentive. The menu pricing is very reasonable for restaurants like this and the portion is what we expected, not huge but plenty. Lighting on the second floor is very different from the first, and we will be coming back for a seating experience on the first floor. We had black cod, duck confit and steak frites for mains and they were all great, I personally loved the duck very much and would come back for this dish alone. I would love to try their tasting menu next time, it seemed to be priced fairly reasonable. Their house wine fits the food, which are all a bit on the sweeter side. I don't love to leave harsh reviews but after our experience here I feel it's only right to let others know. Cleanliness was the first issue that stood out even before we sat down. The napkins and placemats were stained and the bathroom was dirty. Service overall was poor, sometimes rude but most concerning was the food. The scallops were definitely not fresh and the steak was either a really poor cut, going bad, or both. Everything was very heavily salted, either to cover the taste of poor quality proteins or simply because the chef's tasting is questionnable. I was really hoping to have found a great new restaurant here, but I have to be honest about my experience. read more

The scallops were fresh, and the tiger's milk paired nicely with the onions and radish, adding a refreshing touch. The prosciutto was also tasty, though the pickled mushrooms got a bit lost in the dish. The appetizers met our expectations, but nothing really stood out. For our mains, we chose the chicken thigh steak and caramelized French onion pasta. The chicken was cooked well--juicy on the inside with a crispy skin on the outside. The risotto was al dente, though I think it could have been cooked slightly longer for a softer bite. The caramelized French onion pasta was a bit of a miss for me; I was expecting more flavors resembling traditional French onion. Instead, it tasted more like a sweet onion pasta. That said, it still had a good flavor overall and just the right amount of sauce. The bread served on the side could use some improvement--it was hard and bland, with only a few areas having olive oil, while most parts were dry. I also wish the portion sizes for both mains were a bit larger, as I still felt a bit hungry afterward. For dessert, we opted for the pineapple brûlée and toffee pudding. The toffee pudding had a nice flavor, but it had been soaked in syrup for too long, making it overly sweet and giving it a very soft, almost mushy texture. The pineapple brûlée was a bit underwhelming--it was essentially a thick slice of pineapple with brûléed sugar on top, sitting in pineapple juice with cinnamon whipped cream and lime zest. For the price, the meal was fair, but there were a few aspects that could use refinement.

We heard that this restaurant was going to close on May 17, which is soon. And media was saying…read moretheir food was good and tasting menu was great! So we decided to go and have a try before they close. Everyone there with reservation. We were table for 3. There was a bit traffic when we drove to downtown. So we were actually late for half an hour, but we called ahead to let the waiter know. When we arrived, there were about 3 tables, not too busy. We ordered the tasting menu with courses of 5. Each dish was a small size and really pretty. The first App was Salmon Tartare, it's raw salmon salad. I can't have any raw food, so I let my husband to have it. The 2nd App was Pan Seared Shrimp, it's cooked shrimp but not too much cooked. My kid loved it and she ate 2 and I ate 1 for the taste. The 3rd one was the main, they ran out of the Duck Confit, so they switched to the Duck Breast without extra charge. It was medium cooked, which it was still having blood, we couldn't stand for it. They took it back and well cooked and also cut into pieces. That's so nice of them. It actually really tasty and it was not hard to bite. I did like the well done duck meat. We also got the Bolognese pasta, he said it was Lasagna, but it wasn't, it was only spaghetti, but my kid liked the sauce. The last one was the White Chocolate Panna Cotta, which it was milk pudding with a little bit white chocolate at the bottom with strawberry and its jam, and walnuts on the side. We told the waiter my kid has nuts allergy, but walnut was still on the dessert plate. We gave her another side of the pudding where didn't have any nuts. Kids like sweets. The restaurant is closing soon. Hope they have the better future.
