Terre et Mer has all the ingredients to be a fantastic restaurant. But, when we went there on a Saturday for lunch, we were really disappointed. First, my boyfriend's apero Gin and Tonic was more tonic than anything else. So when we asked the waiter if there was any gin, he made a face and told us yes. After we insisted, he went to the bar and had the bartender add some more.
Appetizers were delicious, but the main plates took a very long time to be served, and my steak was waaaay over cooked, when I asked for medium rare. So again, I asked the waiter to exchange, which they did fairly quickly. However, with a less than amicable face, and the cut of meat I received was medium rare, but a subprime cut, with lots of nerves.
At this point, we had been at restaurant for close to 2 hours, and had to leave for an appointment, so we quickly asked for our desert, which was another disappointment: while my pavlova with red fruits was good, my boyfriend's tiramisu was a joke -- some basic cream with speculoos cookies at the bottom. When asked the waiter if this was the normal tiramisu they served, he looked confused and said "there are different ways to make tiramisu, and this is how we make ours,"
When the check came, we noticed they charged €2 extra for the gin in our drink -- unbelievable.
At the end, we left feeling like we could have had an amazing experience, but the less than attentive service, combined with some careless food preparation made for a disappointing lunch. read more
