Ate here the other day and wasn't too impressed (understatement). Worst restaurant I've been to in Paris so far (8 days and 19 restaurants in to our trip). Worry not, Paris does set the bar quite high, but the food was sub par to even American cuisine. In fact, I'd honestly rather eat Applebee's than here again, but there were redeeming qualities.
The service was great. Our friendly waiter, fluent in English, made us feel right at home and walked us through the menu as French is not a notch in my belt as of yet.
The restaurant itself was beautiful, inside and out. A large enclosed porch sits about 65 people and the interior was incredibly classy with a few unique touches as well (a round hot water radiator that wraps around a pole sits under a coat rack to heat your coat while you sit, a must for the wet chill of Paris).
The food, however, left a lot to be desired. We personally dine for the experience, not just for the food, but let's face it, we're there to fill our bellies and want to enjoy the process. We ordered a vegetarian burger and salad with arrabiata pasta. The fries were soggy and fried in old oil, tasted like a grease trap if one can get past the texture. Salad was coated in oil, but no real flavor and used greens a bit past their prime. The pasta sauce was bland and boring, like some off-brand grocery jarred sauce with cheap black olives on top. The pasta itself was quite overcooked, such that one couldn't use a fork as intended, leaving us scooping it up in shredded starchy mounds. The burger itself wasn't that bad, using a potatoe based patty with good flavor yet perched upon a cheap store bought sesame seed bun that should have been toasted to give it some fortitude. It lasted two bites before it feel apart. We both left with about 75℅ of it all uneaten, and only because we wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. It didn't get better as we continued to eat it, so we stopped.
Maybe a cup of espresso is the way to go, for the ambiance is all in place (and several locals drank cafe and smoked on the porch), but a major overhaul of their food treatment is needed to improve their score... I mean, com'on. Two stars, possible give or take.
PS: My wife just mentioned that they had good wine, I agree, but that's a mark for the winery. OK, so they have good taste in wine, maybe you should stop for a fix. read more
