This is to review Garden Shoppe's seasonal produce. (We have yet to experience the plant nursery…read moreitems.) We'd seen this place many times when stopping at Braxton's for pet food. Finally tried them for veggies the other day and we were really pleased. We normally get non-organic produce from Gentile's in Newtown Sq if/when it's decent quality (prices can't be beat, but quality is sometimes lacking), or we trek to Wolff's in Media for better quality (which you pay for there). What made the Garden Shoppe helpful to us is its convenience to the nearby Acme and Rite Aid we use, and the quality we got for the price. Quality can sometimes be on par with Wolff's, but with lower prices than Wolff's. They did not have the selection of the Wolff's or other larger produce stores, so expect what one might find at a roadside produce stand, not a full market. But for basics, they filled our need very well. One complaint was the corn. Places like Wolff's will normally let you husk it there, and if you get a half-brown dud, you don't end up paying for it. Wolff's has a lot of pride and does not want to sell you something like that. At the Garden Shoppe there is no means of husking, and we have ended up with 40% of our ears in really bad shape (half the kernels missing, worms, rot, etc.), so if they could set up a husking station it would be a great relief. For the other items, though, we're glad we finally tried them, and are sorry we didn't do it years sooner.

It was quite reasonable! They offer delivery and placement as well. When Andrew delivered my giant rocks he asked where I wanted them, carefully worked around obstacles in my yard, and offered to turn and adjust them as needed. I could not have asked for better service. He understood my vision and made it possible. I recommend them for all your hardscaping needs. I'm thrilled with the outcome.

I am not, in general, the gardening type, particularly not the 'landscaping' gardening type. I…read moreenjoy beautiful landscaping, however I don't generally have the knack or the drive to create it myself. After we built a small addition for the Patriarch to move in with us, we discovered that the changes have created a drainage problem in our back yard. We have no idea why, though I'm sure a hydrologist could tell you, we just know that having standing water next to your foundation for days after a rain storm is not a good idea. So, we have undertaken the task of having our yard re-graded with drains installed and water directed to a rain garden in a corner of the yard. The excavators that installed the drainage don't do plants beyond grass, so off to the internet I go for a plant list, and then off to a local, very nice, nursery who only kept the plants I needed in stock during their 'season' when many people by them. Crap. Fortunately, they were kind enough to direct me to nearby Montgomery Nurseries, and after a quick phone call where I confirmed that yes, they did have some of these plants, I drove over. I am so glad I did. Montgomery Nurseries is a place I've driven by 1000 times, looked at all the pretty plants, but never stopped in. They have a large variety of plants from bedding plants to trees and shrubs, and clearly cater to both the individual and business/landscaping market. Their staff were SUPER helpful, both finding the plants on my list and suggesting alternatives when ones weren't available. They helped me pick them, answered questions and loaded them all into the back of my truck for me. They also let me know when some other plants on my list, as well as others I think I'd like in other parts of my yard. They were friendly, professional, knowledgable and approachable. In short, they're pretty cool people. Prices were reasonable, the service was great, the plants are all doing well in their new home. I'll definitely be back.

When I bought it, it looked great but as soon and I took it home, it started drying up and eventually died. When I reached out to them for a refund for the defective product, I was met with unhelpful responses and a lack of empathy. They refused to acknowledge the poor quality of the plant and offered me a gift card for 50% of the item. It feels like they don't stand behind their products at all. Save your money and look elsewhere for healthier plants and better customer service. This experience has left me frustrated and regretting my purchase.

Over the decades I had…read moreheard about a florist, a greenhouse in the cemetery and had thought it was just part of their operations. Then, a few years ago, FDC heard that they sold beautiful Christmas wreaths and such. Still, we never went to check it out ... until yesterday. I decided on my way back from Lansdowne to turn left and see. I'm so glad I did. This is a beautiful old greenhouse, slightly leaky in the rain, and even on a dreary day it was beautiful in an unpretentious way. I was greeted warmly, where they apologized for the puddles and gave me a quick layout - perennials here, succulents and potted plants there, fairy gardens, and perennials out back. There was so much color! I took my time, looking at the vegetable plants and petunias and aloe. Everything was so healthy and, well, green. There were touches of whimsy, fun little scenes along one wall of the greenhouses, including one of Excalibur. Love it! I found a nice spider plant, just the right size for my living room shelves, and some gorgeous double bloom geraniums for my front pots. As for the cost? Really reasonable. The geraniums were $6, and the potted spider plant was $19. Pretty good deal! Parking is along the cemetery lane, please park along one side so others can pass by. As it has started to rain more heavily I didn't see the perennials & shrubbery. I'll definitely be back.

Even though about half of the plants and flowers are artificial, they look remarkably realistic and blend seamlessly with the live ones. I also loved the variety of plants and flowers available for sale--from potted plants to beautifully arranged bouquets in vases. What truly topped off the experience was the warm and friendly service from every staff member I encountered in the shop. It's a wonder, then, that the café's customer service felt entirely different from the one in the store--hence, the loss of one star in my rating. Like what the other Yelper mentioned, I also noticed that the baristas seemed too preoccupied with their tasks than to assist customers. When I approached the counter, one barista spent a long time arranging a food order, while another was busy restocking coins in the cash register. Even though they could clearly see me and another customer standing right in front of the counter, neither of them acknowledged or greeted any of us. After standing there in silence for quite a while, I eventually gave up and didn't bother placing an order. At that point, a vending machine might have been a better option--it would've at least been more responsive.
