They say there is AC, but it's only in the main living room. So will need to buy some for the bedrooms. 4 stars for parking. I think a lot of families have two cars and you get one spot on a first come first served to choose the spot. But the 2nd car has to fight for a close curbside parking spot. And it can get a little crowded sometimes. Impressed with the flexibility of the main office when it comes to packages. Since you only get a small mail box at the apartment, was afraid about having packages left out. But you can have them delivered to the main office and they let you know when they come. For the price, its nice.

Groton Estates was my home-away-from-home for close to seven (7) months…read more I recognize some online comments are pretty rough. I chalk it up as normal for New England people that are known for their frank, in-your-face, unvarnished opinions. In fairness, Groton Estates is an established complex that is a dominant part of a coastal apartment community, consisting of brick colonial style apartment homes, providing an affordable home for people living and working in the area. I appreciated the staff the most. Here are some highlights: PEOPLE: The ladies who manage the property face with many people of all walks of life. In my opinion, they are the heroes that maintain a professional composure and fortitude even with upset clientele. Yet they march on, being courteous and gracious to the newcomer whatever their background. During the walk through, the management lady explained this unit had a new carpet, a new kitchen sink fixture, and a welcome home package complete with a "Welcome Home" note. When you're scrambling to move, that won't hit you until later on. When it hit me, I thought wow, that was a nice touch! OPERATIONS: As for me, I was able to make contact the first time (860-445-8519). Visited on a Saturday, saw the model, and agreed the contract terms, application fee ($30), deposit ($800), and a prorated rent for a portion of the first month that remained. Yes, I had to wait three or four days, but moved in right away. Discovered later that time was required to paint, clean, and install a couple things that needed replacement. Apartment maintenance - First class. I either emailed, phoned, or visited the office and got immediate service the next business day. Mail - delivered directly to apartment unit, and packages can be safely held by the office. Parking - no problem if you have one vehicle. Be courteous if your unit has a handicap spot. The tow truck can be very expensive, and can ruin your day. Snow removal - Excellent in the parking areas and the walkways. TECHNOLOGY: (1) Rent is due on the 10th. However, paying by check on the first of the month will reflect well on your credit rating. They also offer electronic transfer arrangements too. (2) Free internet. Yes, the internet is free! But if you wish to protect your personal identification, you should configure a VPN for all your connections, or you should pay for your own internet service provider (the monthly charge for Xfinity was $40/month). The latter, requires a MODEM / WIFI router that has been locked-down (white listed connections, etc). (3) LaundryConnect is the wifi service for the washer and dryer machines. A well-kept laundry facility, centralized within on Groton Estates. Bottom line: Groton Estates is a decent place to live with great staff. Positive relationships are possible with time! A word about online comments. As mentioned above, the typical New Englander doesn't mince words. No doubt, the "old salt" - sailors from the whaling industry or those from the Navy ("Arg, Matie"), continue to have a strong influence today. At Groton Estates, you'll definitely experience today's multicultural social fabric of the 21st century laced with old "old salt" sailors that lived long ago in an unforgiving day and age. This is Groton. Groton grew out of an old seaport village that is now a city and a modern-day maritime community that still includes large shipyard and boating amenities combined. 150 or 200 years ago Groton and New London were considered the second largest whaling port in the world. During the revolution, it was also home to the Battle of Groton Heights (also known as the Battle of Fort Griswold, or the Fort Griswold Massacre). Namesakes of those patriots that died defending the land still live on. Appreciating New England is to muse on the past and to consider the similarities of the social fabric generations ago. I recommend reading The Groton Times, a free newspaper delivered to Groton Estates, that publishes historical articles from time to time. It's a precious resource; teachers, historians, and other volunteer writers contribute some fascinating articles. Here is such an article that was broken up across three weekly editions: https://www.theday.com/local-news/20220209/history-revisited-whodunnit-from-grotons-past

I've had a pretty good experience with the staff here too. Moving is never easy, but they made the transition over from my last apartment much easier. They're hospitable, and responsive. My husband and I are new to town and were looking for a place to rent in Downtown Westerly. We…read morewanted a walkable location to the nearby restaurants and bars. We happened to spot this office on one of our walks and decided to walk in and see what they had available. We met Lisa the owner/broker. She and her daughter Taylor were having a heated argument at that time so I was a little skeptical about the place. However, after sitting down and discussing our wish list she immediately had a place in mind for us. It was right above one of the popular restaurants in the heart of downtown. She immediately took us for a showing and we rented the place on the spot. She also mentioned that the landlord was renovating a nearby building and converting it to some upscale condos. When we showed interested she took us over there to check out the place. We also picked her brains about the area and even some of the other rentals we were planning on viewing that afternoon in the surrounding area and she seems to know every one of the owners. She has lived in the area and have been in business for over 27 years so she seems to know where the best spots in towns are at for renting/purchasing a place. She also knew where the hot spots for restaurants/lounges/business were at and also where new ones would be opening soon. She is pretty good at assessing our likes and dislikes so we didn't waste any time with her. I also noticed that lots of locals list their places with her. We're really big Craigslist users and she had a lot of local listings on there. So, if you want options, I think she got some for you. I would definitely work with her again when we get ready to purchase a place. If you are looking for a agent that is familar with this area and can help you with finding a place to live or play then this is your place. Lisa and her daughter Taylor are also very cheerful fun folks. That's always a plus!

Also nice that each apartment has their own water heater and its not shared with the other residents. Last place had a shared water heater between 4 apartments. There is a nice balcony off the living room. 4 stars only becaue we have to supply our own AC's, but they say they will install them for us once we purchase them. Reasonable, right? Did you need something from the leasing office before a holiday? Did you call the leasing office and speak with someone- hear a message, AND see a note on the door that said Leasing office closed at 5:30? TOO BAD! They closed it before 5 just to f*ck with another one of your holidays. They also feel the need to do unnecessary maintenance the loudest way possible-almost every damn day. that's aside from the shittiest floor/ ceiling (however you want to look at it) ever built. If someone flushes their toilet above you, you can hear it. I can hear the baby next door through the clothes dryer vent. Awesome. (This is also the same angel that slams her sliding door with full bodied power if she smells a cig or cigar smoke even if the ppl smoking are out of the "Slam Zone" it doesn't matter bc everyone is required to be a miserable as her. I wish smoke was as pleasant as baby screams to her.) It's way overpriced for what you get- it might be worth it if the people that worked here that gave a crap if you got to sleep past 5am but that's not real life so I would live elsewhere. Also, all of the photos are of the leasing office which is wayyyyyy nicer that any apartment I looked at so please do not be fooled by the pics posted on here-the real apartments are NOT that nice. If you must live here- live on the 3rd floor and don't be a loud stomping douchbag. Oh yeah- they have a pool always full of kids and a small gym-pros I guess. :p
