Recently an aunt of mine felt horribly so she had heard that the doctor was good, when we got there we were met with a heartless and rude woman there in the front. She does not know how to treat people and has a very disorganized system to get a slot. After a few hours and waiting outside for my aunt, one of the doctors said that she was okay despite the terrible condition she was in. However, he was very far from the truth, thankfully we were able to take my aunt to a hospital in time. This place is a scam, and they will leave you to die. Thank God this facility exists! I could've hugged everybody working there for their efficiency and kindness. I needed to get Physical and TB test for employment. Someone told me about this place after I shared about how I was on phone all day yesterday and finding no luck anywhere with anyone who would take me to get these services in the time that I needed them. Here, I walked right in at around 1 PM. They gave me a form to fill out right away and as the lady was adding my information into the computer they were already checking my blood pressure, height and weight. The second I paid for the services (which are reasonable costs since they don't take health insurance) they took me in back. Dr. Ramirez was super nice and friendly. He was even very empathetic when I told him about how I had gotten a TB test less than 6 months ago, but the last place lost my file so I have to get one again for this new job. Everybody was a pleasure to work with... literally, everyone. I really honestly can't recommend this place enough. It's certainly a blessing for the East Bay. read more

Dr. Ramirez is a great patient advocate. I saw doctor after doctor through Medi-Cal and all of them said that my symptoms were all in my head and they basically just shuffled me out the door but after my first visit with Dr. Ramirez, he decided to do a simple blood test and what do you know? I actually have an auto-immune disease and he validated my symptoms by telling me that everything I had been feeling was because of my disease. And that NONE of it was "in my head". I will forever be greatful to him. He is so easy to talk to and he actually listens to what I have to say and he never makes me feel like he has something better to do than to be right there giving me one-on-one attention. Whereas, all the previous doctors I visited made me feel the complete opposite! I guess the only negative thing I have to say is that Dr. Ramirez unfortunately doesn't take appointments (it's first come first serve) and he doesn't take insurance so it can be pricey at times but to me it's worth it! And as for the receptionists, they have been nothing but friendly to me. Everyone here is very warm and friendly. So I'm giving this a 5/5 rating!!! read more

I very rarely write yelp reviews, but it was yelp who helped me find Dr. Carlos Ramirez (Terra Nova Medical Group) right down the street from where I live. I've never even considered writing a review for any business before... however after leaving his office, with a new and refreshed perspective, it was literally the first thing I did when I got home. I'm not even sure I can do justice to just how incredible this doctor and my experience was. Words don't quite suffice. Without going into the particulars of my ailment, I will say that I have seen many so-called "specialists" and doctors regarding my medical concerns and none of them has proven more deserving of praise then Dr. Ramirez is. I don't even know what to say or how to begin saying it. In one visit I learned more about my condition and gained more insight into dealing with it going forward then I have in the 2 years that I've been dealing with it. And more importantly, I walked out of my appointment feeling more hopeful, confident and optimistic then I had in a some time. This is saying nothing at all about his and his staff's demeanor and the time and care spent they with me. I called yesterday and the receptionist (I've forgotten her name- sorry!) told me they were nearly fully booked for the day but to come early the next morning (since I live so close) as they would fill up fast and be booked for the day. When I went into my appointment there was one patient behind me and by the time I left his office the waiting room was full. I would never have known that though judging by the amount of time Dr. Ramirez attentively spent getting to know me and my medical situation. In the course of which he laid out a game plan tailored uniquely for me and my needs and even chopped up some jokes with me. He is, by the way a really funny dude. I have to say that towards the end of the hour that he spent with me (no exaggeration either) "I" started feeling guilty for taking up so much of "his" time because I have never in my life had a physician or doctor of any sort spend that kind of time with me. Dr. Ramirez is a one of a kind man; a super chill dude, an amazing and knowledgable doctor and most of all a compassionate and genuine human being. Clearly, he is not in this for the money, I mean come on...60.00 for an appointment and he is not rushing to stack up as many of those 60.00 as possible in a day. He could be charging triple that easily just by virtue alone of how incredible this man is and by the level of expertise and care being provided here at Terra Nova. Here is a doctor who is legitimately the 1%. Maybe, out of 100 doctors 1 of them will be a Dr. Carlos Ramirez. Maybe. I don't think this "review" accurately conveys how I am feeling after seeing him this morning. For those who don't live in the neighborhood, his clinic is a very short walk (2 or 3 blocks maybe) from Fruitvale Bart Station and there are plenty of good spots to grab some great food (read Al Pastor tacos) all around. If you need to see a doctor, insured or not, do yourself or your loved ones a favor and come see this man. Experience for yourself the sentiment that everyone shares here. The girl who gave him a poor rating shouldn't even be considered. She didn't understand the scheduling protocol for this office and as a result she never even saw the doctor. So why would she be leaving a review when she never even saw the doctor? Because when people are given a platform to voice their experiences a sense of unrealistic and petty self-entitlement sometimes accompanies that. I can't thank Dr. Ramirez and his staff enough. Again, words truly don't suffice. Just because someone doesn't have health insurance should it mean they must settle for sub-par care... And with Terra Nova Medical Group NO ONE has to. Even if you are insured and have access to more choices for your health care, you should still come here. You're health and that of your loved ones is worth it and more. read more

I have to echo everyone else's rave reviews of Dr. Carlos Ramirez. He is a brave, big-hearted pioneer in the world of medicine. I am so grateful that he has chosen to leave big bucks and big systems behind to practice in a way that serves so many underserved people. His clinic on International serves many poor, probably undocumented Latinos, of course, but also a fair number of well educated people of other races, including white folks like myself, who just don't have health insurance. (He is fully bilingual.) And he is AMAZING - incredibly kind, present, smart, helpful. All this for $60 - a full half hour with an MD. It breaks my heart to know that this *could* be widely available in our wealthy country, yet instead is so rare and hard to find. I agree with the reviewer who said that this is what medical care should be. I can't recommend Dr. Ramirez highly enough. read more

Waste of a drive to Oakland. My boyfriend's wrist was very badly sprained at his job, and he has no insurance. So we called Terra Nova to see whether there were any available slots at 1:30, and they told us they still had room. When we got there, there were three people in the waiting room, but we were told they were full for the rest of the day. They don't close until 7 PM, and we arrived at 2 PM. His wrist was visibly swollen, and he was crying in pain. read more

My mom just went in as a patient two days ago and we are really impressed with the patient care. Although the waiting time was around an hour to be seen it was understandable because it's a walk-in clinic with no scheduled appointment. Once she was seen everything went by smoothly and she has wonderful things to say about Dr. Ramirez. He was really empathetic and understanding of my mom's issues. She had blood drawn in the office and was out with her prescriptions 45 minutes after having her vitals taken. read more

He has also helped me recover from many infections. He really listens and is always up to date on my health history. He is a very intelligent and compassionate doctor. This is by far the best doctor's office visit I have ever had in my life. Starting from the phone call, the staff was helpful and informative. I was able to drop in the same day. The prices were very reasonable. The wait was not too bad. The staff and doctor were very kind, friendly and helpful. They answered all of my questions and concerns, and even offered to write me a doctor's note. After waiting for hours at other doctor's offices, and getting attitude from receptionists, and feeling rushed during doctor's exam, this place was a god send! They have very affordable blood sugar and cholesterol tests. Also you could buy the medicine right there if you chose saving you a trip to the pharmacy. I will most definitely go back there, and am thinking of making this place my primary care physician. I went there to get a tetanus shot after piercing my foot. The total cost of the visit, vaccine, antibiotic was $158, whereas in a different place (Direct Urgent care) the doctor's visit alone would have been $195 read more

So I have an infection in my big toe, and boy does it hurt! I really wasn't looking for some robot doc to see me in 5 min.s and out the door. So I looked around for a different clinic. I saw the reviews on Yelp for Dr. Ramirez and had to try him. What a lovely man who actually relates, and cares about what he does in a joyful, cheerful manner. The doctors in this country need lessons from him! He is in a colorful building, not sterile, and his attitude is colorful and positive. I went in and immediately got an appt. I felt safe, and uplifted when leaving. I can't stand places like Kaiser, and Sutter, and when I did have health insurance, that's where I went. I have never met a doc like Ramirez and I think he's and angel who is doing what he's called to do. read more
