I went to Dr. Tsao for years and went through all the hoops with insurance to keep her as my primary caregiver, but the office is so hard to work with that I have to reduce her rating. They will accept my husband's insurance for him, but not for me. Every time I show them the paperwork from the insurance, they say that it's wrong and I can't get an appointment or the appointment isn't covered. (They say that Affinity Group and Dr. Tsao are not covered by my insurance - see attached card.) My husband - who has the SAME insurance - has no issues. They've said I can only make appointments using the app, not the website, just lots of random issues have come up over the years. I've been polite and patient through all of this, but it's just too hard and makes no sense. Anyhow, Dr. Tsao is great overall, but I am concerned that she doesn't understand that plants have protein and am looking for a doctor that is a bit more holistic. read more

Such a wonderful doctor. First time I have ever had a primary care physician. She had been amazing.

I would give 0 star. I chose to see Dr Tsao because all the 5 stars ratings, but I'm very disappointed to get an frustrated experience. All I feel is that she just want making money from her parents over solving their problems. She pretended to be nice at the beginning but she is not at all. I had some odd lymph node thing going on with my neck and decided to finally see my doctor,dr sellman, who ive had since november but have yet to meet since my health has been fine. i called alameda family and was told that id have to wait about 3 weeks to see dr sellman but i could see dr tsao on thursday or friday. i opted for an 830am friday appointment. i got there at 815. the receptionist was very nice. the nurse who weighed my fat ass was also super nice. then,5 minutes after she left, dr tsao was about to enter the room. i got so nervous that i had to run to the bathroom before i peed my pants. i wasnt used to such prompt service! she read the all the forms i filled out. she asked me about my concerns. she never once looked at her watch. she filled my prescription for my 16 xanaxs that i ask for yearly without any resistance. i know,16,im going to become a total junkie ...but its just for flying. she filled out my prescription and asked if i wanted it faxed or just given to me. she had me give some blood to see if my lymphites were out of whack and then the next morning at 6am, she texted me and let me know that everything was normal from the test. ive died and gone to doctor heaven. so even though ive yet to meet the doctor on my health card,ive had the best experience since switching from kaiser to pacificare, and i even had to hoof it down the street to have my blood taken. footnote: to the reviewer of dr eichel who gave a positive review to him (it wasnt me), much of the review was spent refuting my experience and the other yelper's opinion. im sure dr eichel and his medical office have something to offer,it just wasnt for me and i wrote about my experience. and apparently,it wasnt for the other yelper either. read more

I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Tsao's and I think she is terrific. She's smart, she listens and she is solution-oriented. At our initial "get acquainted" appointment, she noticed I sounded hoarse and explained to me that the way I had been told to use a nasal allergy spray was incorrect and had led to the product dripping back down into my throat -- causing some of the hoarseness. No other doctor had ever even paid attention to my hoarseness or told me how to use the medication. She also ordered some routine lab work and after I had it done, she called me right away to explain the results. I wasn't there so she left a message with a brief explanation and promised to call back after she saw her last patient for the day. She did call back, even though it was after normal working hours, and explained the lab results in depth. She asked if I had any questions, and then recommended lowering the dosage of one of my medications based on the test results. I agreed. The prescription was waiting for me at my pharmacy the next morning. My annual phsyical examination with her was very thorough. She took as much time as I needed to discuss any and every concern I had. I highly recommend Dr. Tsao. read more

Dr. Tsao is a godsend; as good as it gets, and as good as the five-star reviews say. She is one of the most professional, knowledgeable and caring physicians I have ever encountered. She truly cares about her patients, really makes you feel comfortable, does not rush you, listens sympathetically and patiently as you explain your situation, and answers your questions clearly and completely. She has a great breadth of knowledge about the latest developments in medicine; she is practical and pragmatic in her approach to diagnosis and treatment, orders lab tests as needed, and follows up with you to ensure your treatment plan is working and to modify it as appropriate. As for the office staff, I find them to be committed to being professional, friendly, accommodating, and sensitive to the needs of patients. Scheduling appointments, waiting times, billing, and returning phone calls have not been problems for me. Recently, I needed some medical supplies rushed to me. The office was closed during the lunch hour for a special training session, but a staff member listened patiently to my request and followed up promptly by expediting a prescription to the Costco Pharmacy, which was filled and available for pickup a short time later. read more

If I were you, I'd elect another Dr. Her interest seems to be a financial connection or something to "referrals" that are not covered by insurance. She's everything you want your doctor to be - smart, personable, professional, solution-oriented, knowledgeable, and nice. I never feel rushed when I see her. The only downside is that she's one of the more popular doctors at the practice so you have to make an appointment at least a month ahead to see her. Honestly, I wish there were 6 stars to give to Dr. Tsao. My appointment with her was my best medical appointment I've ever had. Mainly because she listened when you talked, and you felt like she was taking in and processing what you had to say. Then her responses related back to what you just said. I am so used to doctors being rushed and not really caring what you have to say, but just get you out as quickly as they can. She was extremely prompt! Maybe a 5 minute or less wait for her to get to the room... I brought a magazine to read, and I only got through 2 paragraphs. I've been going to Dr. Tsao since she started at Alameda Family Physicians. She is an extraordinarily good family doctor. She has never made me feel rushed or unimportant (which I have experienced from many other MDs). She is kind, understanding, patient and very knowledgeable. I saw Dr. Tsao for a couple of years and loved her. She was always a ready listener and let me explain everything I wanted to. She never discounted how I felt, which is important to me. She had good advice and tried to give me options when available. She never seemed rushed and never anxious to brush off any symptoms I had. I never seemed to have problems with the office staff and was normally seen within 5-10 minutes of checking in. I am sure it has to do with timing also. I like Dr. Tsao, but her office staff are lacking. I generally had to spend 30 minutes on hold just to leave a message. I tried their online appointment scheduling, but that only leaves a message for someone on staff to call you back. I got disconnected once, and the staff didn't bother to return my call. After receiving a referral, I was told the referral coordinator would call. They never did. To save myself from waiting on hold, I went in person and still had to wait about 30 minutes. All the while, listening to the staff discuss the best type of trail mix from Costco. The staff definitely isn't over-tasked, which makes me wonder why my hold time was always so long. Dr. Tsao really listens and cares. I've been her patient since 2009-2016. She caught what so many doctors missed... i was extremely deficient in vitamin D. If you also see holistic doctors/healers, she's inclusive of that information too. I knocked it down a star for two reasons: stanford health won't take coveredca.com plans starting next year and once Dr. Tsao was out and I saw SOMEONE ELSE from her office who wouldn't give me antibiotics (which i never take) when I said i had an intestinal infection. Instead she almost had my gallbladder removed and the infection got worse while I was traveling. I still live with intestinal problems since then. Of course it wasn't Dr. Tsao's fault but she was my primary at the time. Other than that I'm very bummed that I don't know if I'll be able to see her next year because of the insurance issues. read more

To whoever reads these reviews, PLEASE disregard the 1-star review that was written for her back in 2011, as that was only in regards to the office staff, not the doctor herself. Dr. Tsao has been my primary physician for several years now, and like all the others who gave her 5-star reviews here, I am SOOO grateful to have found her. She is extremely caring, compassionate, listens to your concerns and always responds to my emailed questions to her within 1 day. In fact, I think she even checks emails on days that she's not at work, because just a couple of weeks ago, I had an urgent question that I emailed her about, and when I hadn't heard from her by midday the next day, I called the office just to see if she was there and I was told that she was off that day, but lo and behold - she still managed to answer my email later on that afternoon! In fact, just now, despite it being past normal office hours already (it's 6:30 PM) I received a call from her following up on some tests I had done - now if that's not above and beyond, I don't know what is! Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr. Tsao, for being the wonderful doctor that you are - 5-stars all the way! read more
