They will accept my husband's insurance for him, but not for me. Every time I show them the paperwork from the insurance, they say that it's wrong and I can't get an appointment or the appointment isn't covered. (They say that Affinity Group and Dr. Tsao are not covered by my insurance - see attached card.) My husband - who has the SAME insurance - has no issues. They've said I can only make appointments using the app, not the website, just lots of random issues have come up over the years. I've been polite and patient through all of this, but it's just too hard and makes no sense. Anyhow, Dr. Tsao is great overall, but I am concerned that she doesn't understand that plants have protein and am looking for a doctor that is a bit more holistic.

I have been with him for over 30 years. He is on-time, thorough, patient and a great listener. I am never rushed with him. In addition, I appreciate the detailed discussions about lab followups and his expert advice. My last visit, I was actually taken to the exam room 10 minutes early! With Alameda Family Physicians and Stanford, my health is closely tracked and well documented. I feel like everything is being done to monitor changes in health due to age and corrective actions are being made to keep my body in check. I rarely if ever leave bad reviews, but this one was very serious for me. I called Dr Fredian twice to try to book an appointment. She blew me off and sent me to her online patient portal, which did not work. I called to explain that the online system did not work, and she told me to email her. She still would not just take a single moment to make me an appointment herself. I then followed her instructions and emailed her to try to set up an appointment, and she never responded. So I emailed one more time. By the 4th time I reached out, I asked her to please really take me seriously because I was experiencing symptoms that gave me some small discomforts and concern, and I truly felt I needed a doctor, but not an ER. Her response was to call my voicemail and yell at me in my voicemail to just go to Urgent Care and tell me that my email asking for her to please take me seriously was "inappropriate." When I called back and tried to explain that I was not in need of urgent care, but just in need of a regular doctor's appointment, and that urgent care would not be helpful since I did not even have a regular doctor that I could list as my primary doctor, nor had I even seen a doctor at all for a basic visit, she told me that my phone call was "wasting valuable time" she could be spending with her patients. I was pretty shocked to hear that, but tried one more time to explain that I just really wanted to become one of those "valuable patients." I guess I'm only "valuable" if I am already paying into her pocket? When I tried to explain that all I was trying to do was become a patient because she had come well-recommended, and that I was finding it frustrating to try to access her services using the online modality, she hung up on me. What kind of doctor blows off and hangs up on a sick person who is just trying to get an appointment?

I had the pleasure of using Dr. Ippolito's services for 4 members of my family. He is a retired…read morephysician who now has a practice providing USCIS medical exams for the completion of Form I-693. Civil surgeons are the only doctors permitted to fill out the form. He is one of a dozen designated civil surgeons in the North Bay area. The office is housed in a very lovely but old medical building minutes from the 880 in Oakland. It has free unattended parking behind the building. The office is not very private, but it really doesn't need to be for this exam. The doctor and his assistant work from one small divided room but it works. He does not examine you for general ailments and disease. He fills out your form, that is all. He does what is necessary to fill out the form completely: He withdraws blood and takes a urine sample for STD disease testing for patients 15 years and older, he will check your immunization records to ensure they are up to date, he will administer the immunization to bring you up to date, he will administer a tuberculosis test which necessitates a second visit 48-72 hours later. On your second visit, he very methodically goes over your Form to ensure accuracy and checks your TB test results. As at March of 2017, his fee was $275 per person which includes blood test, urine test, immunizations and completion of the Form. If you needed to receive a chest x-ray due to positive TB test result, it would cost you $50 more. My family's health plan included TB testing and immunizations so we already had them done. Dr. Ippolito gave us a significant discount off his $275 per person fee. In the end, I paid $600 for 4 people. Something like $100 per child because they were completely up to date; adults more because we required blood and urine tests. Dr. Ippolito's fees are amazingly reasonable. There is no regulation in the fee charged for a medical exam for this purpose. I called almost every doctor on the list provided by USCIS. Prices ranged from $225 to $850 for adults and $100 to $400 for kids. I don't think Dr. Ippolito has defined discount schedule for people who come in requiring less services, but he's old-school, if you're nice, he's nice back. Also, it was very efficient. I got an appointment within a week. We went in as a family of four and completed our first appointment in 90 minutes. The second appointment took 45 minutes and did not require the children to be present. Some doctors will only book one person per hour which would have required up to 8 visits for us.
