DINNERS BEWARE I have eaten here three times. This was the fourth visit. Every single time I have announced, "I have a food allergy and can only have meat. Is the meat made with anything besides meat? Any seasonings? Any oils of any kind?" And every time I've been told, "No, just meat, nothing else", by more than one employee. And every time, I noticed the pork, specifically, tasted garlicky. But out of trust of what I was told and hunger, I always ate it. And to be fair, meat is delicious. It's obvious why the restaurant is so popular. But that's not the point at all. The point is I asked about seasonings again this time, like always. And this time the guy cutting the meat did say that there's garlic... "ON EVERYTHING". So I specifically asked, "How could that be? I was told every single time I've eaten here that the meat doesn't have anything besides meat." The meat cutter and someone else who I guess is a supervisor clarified for me that , "Yes, everything is seasoned with at least garlic and furthermore, it's all basted in SOYBEAN OIL." Holy crap, that's not even kind of serious, that's EXTREMELY serious. Someone with bad enough of an allergy could have an anaphylactic reaction and DIE. Anyway, I expressed my frustration as politely as I could that they need to be more careful, politely turned away my plate of food and went back to my table to wait for my cousin to finish eating. A couple of minutes later the manager came over and asked me about the situation so I told her the story and she apologized. She was very kind and accommodating, letting me know if I call ahead next time they can prepare food for me the way I want, with just meat and nothing else. That's very nice. During the conversation she made me aware that there were a couple of the dishes that absolutely just had meat and salt and NOTHING ELSE, EVER. To be fair, it wasn't forced on me. I just said, "If that's ACTUALLY the case, then I would just order and eat those two options and I'd be okay with that." She assured me that it was the case and that it was JUST meat, so I trusted it and agreed. Big mistake. I get my plate of meat and go back to my seat and start eating. Immediately, I can taste garlic and seasoning and I find what is unmistakably a caraway seed among other herb bits crusted on the meat. SERIOUSLY?! AFTER ALL THAT? I bring it to the attention of the supervisor and she's just like , "Oh really?" And apologizes. And then we left. Good riddance. Look, everyone. The point of this VERY NEGATIVE review is not out of spite. The last thing I would want to do is hurt a business of genuinely nice, hard working people who are making a living feeding people. But the reality is THEY COULD HURT SOMEBODY OR WORSE with their negligence. I'd like to add that I understand that in a place like this there is likely a language barrier much of the time. That's fine but that's completely not acceptable for food service, not in America, anyway. Employees should be trained about food safety standards and allergy concerns, no matter what. To be clear and fair, I love Brazilian people and culture. That's why we we were eating there. It's not a knock on them or any one group of people. But there are standards here for a reason. Now I'm leaving upset with a low-grade pressure headache, a tight throat, and mild nausea from ingesting what is luckily just a few bites of seed oil and who knows what kinds of seasoning. Every time I've eaten here previously, I felt off afterwards in a similar way. It's definitely not just from a food coma. This NEVER happens to me. I eat only meat until I'm stuffed every single day. And I feel great. I always trusted their word and assumed it was something else causing me to feel that way, and didn't make the connection with their food. I'm writing this review 3 hours later and I still feel sick as described. This review is a warning to others. They DESERVE any negative scrutiny it brings their business. Maybe next time they will be more careful. DINERS BEWARE. read more

This casual Brazilian place serves traditional and tasty food by the pound. You grab a plate, fill it up with the buffet items of your choice, and they weigh it for you. The amount you are charged is based on the total weight of the food. The grilled chicken hearts are a classic that I keep going back for. The desserts are sold separately, and my family's favorite is the bolo Romeu e Julieta (guava paste and cream cheese cake). read more

Terra Brasilis - a meal in a styrofoam container - Brazilian Near Me - Framingham, Massachusetts

I gotta say for a Brazilian restaurant that should give the customers authentic Brazilian food, they gave me not the prime cut that is the Picanha, they sold me Contra-file, which is a second quality meat cut. To all customers who wish to go there, Picanha, DOESN'T have fat on BOTH side of the meat! As you can see on the picture, the red meat should have fat only on one side, and the fiber of the meat is also different from the Picanha! Shame on you! read more

We've been coming here for many years and generally have enjoyed the food. However, this note is about a different issue. This is a self-serve buffet where the food is sold by weight. You pile food on your plate, move through the carving station, place your food on a digital scale, and they give you a printed receipt indicating the weight, which you then pay at the cashier at $10.99 per pound of food. The problem is that when you are dining-in, their computer is supposed to subtract the weight of the actual ceramic plate (0.94lbs), so that you're only paying for the weight of the food - not the plate. This is not an issue for take-out, because their styrofoam containers don't weigh enough to make a difference. So, the staff person at the weight register is supposed to press a button on their end for dine-in or takeout, and you can tell, because for dine-in the weight indicated on the receipt should be less than the weight showing on the scale. Unfortunately, and specifically recently, this has not always happened. So, tonight, ONCE AGAIN, we got 3 plates for dine-in, and sure enough on the receipt we see that we are being charged for the overall weight of everything, including the plates. "You're being picky!" you might say. No. The plates are almost 1lb each, so 3 plates means you're being charged an extra ~$30 for absolutely nothing. This has been happening more frequently recently, but today was especially alarming because the same staff person who corrected this issue last time responded today as if he didn't know what the issue was. We tried to explain that we're being charged for the weight of the plate, but between the staff not speaking English and the people behind you getting annoyed, this was awkward and irritating because the food was getting cold while we were forced to once again explain an issue that we suspect they are very aware of. Finally, this staff member "agreed" to take $30 off the bill, as if he was doing us a favor. There was no "a-ha!" moment and no apology, so we are left to suspect that they're counting on people not noticing the discrepancy. Well, we noticed. Again. Hence this review. And sadly, while we enjoy the food, it's not likely that we would return. As the saying goes, fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice... read more

Food is good, but on Sundays around 1pm it takes 15min to get food from the buffet. It's not that the line is long, it's just that it doesn't move because their bbq area is tiny and there is only 1 person getting the meats. They should change the flow and/or hire more people (especially to serve the meats). There's only 1 person weighing the food and getting drinks. They should have at least 2 scales and 1 person to get drinks while the other 2 weigh the food to help with the flow. That's the least I could expect on a Sunday at 1pm. Unfortunately, I won't be coming back. I just to have this much time to get food while my husband tries to entertain my daughter for 15 min so he can after go and wait for another 15 min for his food. The food is good, but the service is mediocre. read more

This place has some really good Brazilian food and bbq. The only thing I will point out is that you MUST go during busy times of the day. If you go at off peak times the food will seem old/stale. I find this to be true at most buffets though but you would be suprised how many people still go and complain at like 3 in the afternoon. The main dish selections change mostly everyday. They have an amazing selection of meats on the charcoal grill. We have also ordered cakes from them for birthdays and other occasions. The cakes are always awesome and made fresh the morning of our order. Our favorite cake is the brigadeiro - a must try even if you just get a slice to take home. The prices here are on par with most buffets. I use to take advantage of the 40% off after 9 on weekdays when I worked a part-time job - still would if I lived closer by. It is probably a good thing I don't live or work closer to this place because I would probably end up getting take-out from them a couple times a week! read more

MEAT! MEAT! more MEAT! Buffet sold by the pound. Surprisingly, our total tab for three (including second helpings) was under $50! Traditionally prepared over a fire, meats on these huge skewers that I think are meant to resemble swords? Simply prepared meat that is grilled over an open fire, Gaucho style. Got beef, lamb, chicken, pork and sausage. I requested my meats medium rare but all the cuts were pretty much very well done. Although flavorful, the doneness made them a bit chewy. The best thing I discovered here was the "sauce" made from chili peppers drenched in olive oil and just a little sprinkle of vinegar. That was really awesome over the grilled meats. Really great Feijoada (stew of beans, mostly ham in their version, and piping, scald your palate and tongue, HOT). Great sides of pickled beets, black beans, corn off the cob - all very well seasoned, not spicy. Also a great variety of salad fixins' all very fresh and crisp, and fried plantains (those are my favorite at any buffet). Fantastic desserts: got these little bonbon like bites of Doce de Leite - NOT anything like the caramelized Dulce de Leche desserts - this is creamy, still pristinely white, almost like biting into a solid bite of milk really (for FIlipinos: tastes and has the mouth feel of those Pastillas de Leche which are made from Carabao's milk!) Also available with coconut). Budin is the name for their smooth rich Flan - again familiar to Filipinos as your Grandmother's leche flan, made with more egg yolks - a thickened custard with milk, not that jiggly almost unpleasant soft Flan that I've had at other non-Brazilian places. There also was a Chocolate cake but not the dark rich kind, light colored , with a dense rich cream filling. That was just OK for me, not a must-have. Frequented by families with little children, working class people, a few businessmen in suits. Many seemed to be "regulars" here. Glad I went. Obrigado, Terra Brasilis! read more

Terra Brasilis - Meats! - Brazilian Near Me - Framingham, Massachusetts

This is one of my favorite places to go to in downtown Framingham. Everytime I go I can't resist the Brazilian soda guaraná.

My rating is based on service, freshness and food taste, and overall value. Even though this is a self-service buffet style restaurant, service was attentive and very friendly. Party of six had dinner on a Thursday night around 7:00 PM. The restaurant was less the 50% occupied. The buffet had some of my favorite items including collard greens, pintos, black beans, brown rice and pot-roast. All were well seasoned and delicious. Another item on the buffet that was very tasty were coxinhas. A delicious concoction of seasoned chicken and cheese rolled in a tasty batter and lightly fried. At the end on the buffet was various meat selections cooking on skewers over a hot grill and served by a sous chef. I had the beef ribs, steak and spicy pork sausage. All were very good, especially the tender ribs. We finished the evening with pineapple cake and chocolate balls. The cake was moist and delicious. The chocolate ball melted in our mouth. What I love about this restaurant as apposed to other traditional buffets is they charge by the pound as opposed to a usually inflated flat fee. read more

Large selection, real spit-fired rotisserie, fresh. I've been to Terra Brasilis about three times in the past year and each time has been mostly great. For my first visit, I was a bit shy and overwhelmed. There aren't really any instructions that I noticed, but basically it's like a cafeteria line where you start at one end, work your way down, and then you weigh your plate at the end and grab utensils/drinks. They will give you a receipt at that point. Keep this receipt and pay at the register near the door when you're done eating. Although it sort of is set up like a cafeteria, the food tastes really good and "down to earth". I don't know how authentic it is but it doesn't come across as Americanized, i.e, it is not super salty / sweet. I like the variety of choices. Several different rices, beans, staples, etc. I don't know if they have a daily rotation but it felt like every time I went there there was some slight variations to the selection. The staff there is super nice and friendly. My favorites are: Top Butt Chicken Heart Fried Fish Pork Sausage "Collard greens" Orange juice Word of caution: I have had very dry meat come from the grill before, but I think it's because I tried stuff that is not commonly ordered. I would avoid the lamb. Stick top top butt and sirloin and you'll probably be fine. read more

Do you consider yourself a master of cheap eats? Have a nose for food bargains? Then Terra Brasilis should be on your radar. If you dine there after 9 pm on a weeknight, your food is discounted 40%! That's 40% off $6.00/lb (they charge by the pound), or about $3.60 a lb for some very tasty and very simple Brazilian food offered up buffet style. The buffet boasts two kinds of beans, brazilian style polenta, a range of salads and fruits, rice with smoked beef and plain white rice, fried plantains, collard greens, okra, assorted stews and meats, and at the end, a range of grilled and fried meats from pork to beef to chicken. To folks familiar with the churrascaria concept, there will be some items easily recognized - the skewers groaning with meat and some of the dessert items. What will be unfamiliar are the reasonable prices, the informal setting, and the pleasant and helpful servers wearing normal clothes. When you arrive, put down your things and walk right up to the buffet. Grab a plate and help yourself. Each time you pass through the buffet, you'll weigh your plate at the end and they'll write you a ticket for your food. You'll need to go up at the end if you want dessert, tantalizingly described on the placemats on your table. You pay at the end, when you are ready to leave. There are a number of Brazilian drinks you can order, as well as juices and water. I went for lunch and was thrilled with the freshness of the food. Lunch is probably the best time to hit the buffet, as everything is fresh when the restaurant opens at 11. Everything was bright tasting and delicious. And that easy-to-swallow price of $10 for lunch, including tip, made it that much more satisfying. read more

Great spot in Framingham. You should know what you are getting when you go there, a self service buffet of meat and easy foods. The quality is fine, the price is right and the food tastes good and isn't too salty. Staff is super nice. If you are expecting a fancy Brazilian Steak House go to Fogo De Chao, but this spot is great for what it is. Nothing is cooked too rare, probably being safe. The beef rib, top sirloin, lamb, all delicious. Great plantains as well. Worth checking out. read more

Loyal customers for years. Great food, super clean & relatively $, very casual. A variety of meats are being barbecued while you watch, choose your own piece. Brazilian barbecue is done just with Kosher salt, no other spices are used-- or needed in my opinion. Paid by the pound. Well worth the 30min trip from Boston to Framingham MA. One trick is to go there before the X-Mas, New Years, etc. meals, get in line, select a variety of meat & sides, place it in festive plates at home, make a face of "I did it myself" (without saying it...) and get the compliments :) I tried their catering but found it was way too much food and $$. Now I just go and get a selection for an easy (easier) party. There are healthy options-- awesome rice and beans, salad bar, barbecued chicken. We also like the potato salad, fried plantains and the *finely cut sautéed kale with garlic*, always bring extra home. Wow for the freshly squeezed orange juice. For dessert, we are fans of the enormous "Brigadeiro" (chocolate)", Cajuzinho (peanut) and Brazilian cakes (moist!). *No fancy atmosphere at all*, cafeteria style, carry-outs in plastic bulky containers. I hear that starting at 9pm prices go down for the day, always a line starting at 8:55pm. We go to the Terra Brasilis on Waverly St/ Route 135, easy access. Across the street is Seabra, a Brazilian supermarket, interesting things at market price. I don´t know the owners of either Terra Brasilis or Seabra, I´m just sharing something we enjoy. I highly recommend. read more

Nice clean place for good fresh Brazilian food. I used to visit this place a lot more, but as I've moved to the North Shore, I don't get here as often as I'd like. I stopped by today for lunch for the first time in well over a year, and it's nice to see that some things don't change. The same high quality of food, an assortment of salads, side dishes (rice, beans, vegetables) and of course- the barbecue. I fell in love with chicken hearts at this establishment and have no idea why Americans don't cook these on a regular basis. It's hard to find them in a restaurant, and I love coming here to enjoy them! They are chewy, garlicky and flavorful and I ate a bunch of them with my assortment of other foods from the buffet. The prices are reasonable (maybe a little on the pricy side if you get a full plate of food for lunch?) but well worth it. I wish I lived closer so I could come more often. read more

The staff here is so friendly and the buffet, condiments and tables are clean and organized. I'm not a huge meat eater (I know, I know - why here?) so I was very happy to see that I could load up my plate with lots of delicious veggies (green salad, beets, zucchini, broccoli, green beans, steamed spinach), fruit, some perfectly cooked brown rice and pinto beans, and sample just a few bites of the rotisserie meat. Finished with the fried plantains for dessert. Yum! Great place for a casual bite. I'll definitely return. read more

Amazing selection of meats for a smaller place, prices are great and very reasonable for the amount you get and the quality. I've only gotten take out here but my girlfriend and I go as often as we are able. The price after 9 is even more absurd, 30% off! Though the food isn't as fresh then obviously. Definitely a recommend, you can't go wrong no matter what you get. read more

Hope you like MEAT. Get in line and march through the buffet line. They charge by the pound. The food here is decent quality and a good overall value. Not especially a place you want to take people to in order to impress them but if you want to pile a plate high with freshly grilled beef, lamb, chicken and sausage then by all means come on down. They have another location it seems on Union Ave in the same town and another in Bridgeport, CT of all places.
