Further more, the restaurant required a lot of reminding of our dishes and the menu contained mistakes. Finally, we ordered the carpaccio and they were weirdly ambiguous what the daily fish would be, stating that they couldn't exactly tell us and that it was the chef's choice. When we received it (we ordered 2) they gave us two salmon. We suspected that the probably five salmon for every special as it is one of the cheaper fishes, most likely trying to save on money. To sum it up, we recommend other places, but if you are looking to splurge and do not care that much after your time, money, and the quality, this restaurant is suitable for that.

They even have their official Grade 5 Miyazaki certificate framed right by the door, so you know it's 100% real deal before you even sit down. Service was spot on, too. Watching them torch the A5 Wagyu tableside was awesome, and they kept our broth topped off the whole time. We basically ordered a spread, and every single thing hit: Sukiyaki Lunch Special ($29): Easily the best value on the menu. Loaded with M9+ Wagyu, veggies, udon, and egg dip. Torched Tableside A5 Wagyu (Aburi Tsukimi): Insanely marbled, super buttery, and melts in literally five seconds. That egg yolk dip is non-negotiable. The tonkatsu was some of the best we've ever had--perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. Kagura is known for its specialty tonkatsu, and it shows in every bite. The portions were generous and came with all the sides needed for a complete meal. We left completely satisfied and felt the quality was well worth the price. The service was excellent from start to finish--friendly, attentive, and efficient without making us feel rushed. Finding a restaurant that excels in both food and service can be rare, but Kagura delivered on both. If you're a tonkatsu fan, this is a place you shouldn't miss. They are located in a small plaza off Atlantic with their own parking lot in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is small, about 10 tables of 2-4, so there may be a wait during peak meal hours. We wrote our name on their waitlist, but we were seated soon after. The seats aren't too comfortable since space is tight. Their menu had a lot of customizations with katsu and curry. There were many protein choices. My boyfriend ordered their Menchi Katsu Curry ($20.25) and I ordered the Pork Loin Katsu Curry ($21.45).Both were marked as items Chef Recommends. While we were waiting for our food to come out, I noticed their chopsticks lists their other locations and most seem to be in areas with high Japanese footprint: Torrance, El Segundo, Gardena, Costa Mesa, and Los Angeles. The food was ready within a reasonable amount of time. In previous photos I saw and appreciated the grill they put the katsu on to maintain crispiness on the bottom, but they are no longer using that. The meal also came with a side salad, miso soup, and a few small sides. This is pretty typical of similar businesses. The dressing on this side salad was really bad though. As much as I wanted to eat the vegetables to be healthy, I didn't like it at all. Not taking points away cause it's an included item, but just including my observation. The rice was okay... a bit dry for my liking. The katsu itself was really crispy and crunchy for both of us. I can see how its' their specialty. For my porkloin I liked one side of it more than the other. The curry was okay, but I don't find it cravable... not like the curries that are so good I'll take it home to eat with more white rice. I barely dipped my katsu into the curry. If my boyfriend wants to come back, I might just order the katsu without the curry. A nice addition for this area, but I'm spoiled with having tried better curry katsu spots so I'm a little picky.
