My last cleaning, omg, I can only describe it as feeling like a relaxing gum massage. These words came out of my mouth when my hygienist asked how I was after the cleaning. It surprised both of us, lol. She is the best I have ever had, I told her about my dislike of the sound of ultrasonic cleaner, so she always manually cleans my teeth. I no longer ask for a prescription to relax me before the appointment. It is something about her, because our first cleaning together, I relaxed after 5 minutes. I am not telling you her name because I want her to be available when I need her. She is my tooth fairy. read more

Dr Young's clinic is located in the Ala Moana Medical Building. It is a very convenient location in the center of Honolulu with plenty of parking at the mall. You can access the building either from the 1st floor, by the Bank if Hawaii, or from the Mall's second floor (building's third) across from Genki Sushi, or mall third floor (Building fourth) through a little walk away in the north east corner of the parking lot. The clinic is much bigger on the inside than it would seem to be. It occupies the entire corner of the building with breathtaking view of the ocean. I have never, ever been at the dental clinic with the view! I love how open it was, with plenty of light, and a very inviting modern look to it. The staff is super nice. My dental hygienist, Alice was awesome. She was very friendly, gentle, and she explained everything that she was doing. She was also very thorough in her work. She informed me that I am missing one of my teeth; no one in my entire life told me that I am missing one! I had to come to Dr Young's clinic to find out that I have been missing a tooth all my life, lol. Dr Young also specializes in airway focused dental care. I don't know if any other dentists have the same holistic approach to dental care, but Dr. Young definitely is an expert. He explained to me how my sleeping disorder cause me to grind my teeth at night, which caused all my dental issues. He explained that wearing a night guard is a bandaid and doesn't solve the problem, just treats the symptoms. He was also very thorough in his dental examination, and pointed out a couple problems that my previous dentist did not mention. Thank you Dr Young, and I will see you soon. I was referred to Dr. Young for my sleep apnea because I have a difficult time with a CPAP machine. I was fitted for a MyTap device and it was great! I woke up feeling less tired and had more energy. I would recommend the MyTap device to anyone who does not like to use a CPAP machine and to have Dr. Young set you up with it. SEE DR.YOUNG!!! I started seeing Dr. Young because it had been a few years since I had seen a dentist and I was lucky enough to find Dr. Young. It started with a cleaning and within a few visits Dr. Young was talking to me about snoring and grinding my teeth. I completed a few different sleep tests with Dr. Young and he very quickly recommended MyTap night guard/airway adjuster. Sadly I did not get this device right away, but I have had it now for a few weeks and OH MY GOD it is amazing. The very first night I used it I woke up feeling more refreshed, more energized, and just better. Before using the device I would wake my wife up with my snoring AND grinding my teeth, but now she only wakes up to check if I'm breathing because I'm so quiet and sleeping thoroughly. I am a VERY big advocate for the MyTap device AND Dr. Young AND his team. Dr. Young and his team are very kind, knowledgeable, friendly, interesting, just anything good you can say about a person, a company, or anything. I am planning to get everything fixed with Dr. Young; straighten my teeth, fix my canines, keep my teeth clean, and anything else that may come about, but this is all I have for now. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST FOR AIRWAY ISSUES! He'll charge you $120 out-of-pocket for a "consultation" where he talks in circles and asks obscure questions for an hour or so. (which includes the time that he puts on a cartoon video so that he can go work on another patient) He "tried" to convince me that my neurologist prescribed the wrong CPAP mask and that I should buy the CPAP mask that he sells--out-of-pocket of course. After this hour of rambling, he ended our appointment with no action points, but his simple statement that "he needed more information". He was "supposed" to call my orthodontist but DIDN'T and my orthodontist had to call HIM. He was "supposed" to call my orthodontist back with more information, but OF COURSE he didn't. The guy seems INCREDIBLY UNORGANIZED in every way. I do not write reviews but want to warn others before they waste money thinking this dentist is an airway "expert"--he is NOT! read more

I bit on something and a wave of electricity shot through my jaw. I called Dr Young that Friday, and he told me to come in next day, on a Saturday morning. He x-rayed and found the tooth had split. He took a 3-d video of the broken tooth, then drilled it out. No pain at all and I was prepared for the worst. He sent the video to a computer controlled robot who carved a new tooth in 15 minutes. He then glued the new tooth into the hole where the cracked tooth had been. I spent over 4 hours at his office that Saturday morning. Went in not knowing what was wrong. Came out with a new tooth. No pain now at all. I've never experienced anyone who cares as much, and who places so much effort and expertise into his patients. He's a genius and I'm fortunate to have met him. Ever been told you snore (nooooo!)? Ever had to take allergy medication but it never got better and you never knew why? Ever woken up to drool on your chin and a dry mouth but you swear you don't mouth-breathe?  Yeahhhhhh----what if I told you one of the answers may be air? Yep. AIR. As in oxygen. The stuff you came out of the womb needing and need every day of your life. It gets complicated, but it's really really simple. And to help you decode the complicated so you get it is this office. From front of the house (I'm talking about YOU, Ms. Kayla, cause you are amaze-balls...just so you know) to the head honcho himself, Dr. Young, this office will teach you, help you, and in the end, you are doing more than fixing the problem. You learn what causes it in the first place and how to stop it from happening to your kids, your nieces and nephews, your grandkids...yeah, IKR?! Awesome.  I went in for my kiddo who has had allergies, breathing problems, drooling at night, snoring, waking up tired despite 10 hours of sleep, crowded teeth, etc. We did Benadryl, tooth extraction, all kinds of medication, you name it. In 2 visits, Dr. Young zeroed in on what was happening in a way I did NOT expect. It was like a lightning bolt. A face-palm moment. Remember the old song about the hip bone being connected to the leg-bone, etc.? Cause everything is connected, which yeah, you knew, but connected in this way? REVE-FREAKING-LATION. Real explanations with real science with real anatomy. No hocus-pocus-y concoctions or drugs that will later be blamed for the glowing third arm or eyebrow on your thigh. No mystical/magical stuff. Just anatomy, data, and real techniques with a real time-line and measurable results. If you are tired of being tired, tired of never-ending meds that don't really do all they promise, tired of teeth that don't fit in your mouth, and ready to fix it, this is the office to see.  A dentist by trade but with sooo much more unique training, Dr. Young is good with kids, good with adults, and shares knowledge about what he is doing and why but never talks down to you. Truly a unique practice and perspective.  Accepts many dental insurances, but do be prepared to pay for some specialty services (ever heard of a High-Resolution Pulse Oximeter? Yeah, it is a thing. You know how you know something is wrong but your regular doctor tells you nah, it's all in your head and here have a pill/"we'll watch and see" but you just get worse and worse because that sleep study says you're within normal limits? You might not be and it isn't in your head. You. Are. Not. Crazy. You just were studied with instruments that aren't as thorough as they could be. Sooooo...Enter the HRPO. Check it out.) out of pocket a bit, although it is not at all unreasonable.  Comfortable, easily accessible office in the Ala Moana Building. Best bet is to get there by going up the Keeamoku St. ramp from Kapiolani Blvd., turn right at the top of the ramp, then go STRAIGHT--yes, bypass the attendant entrance on your right and instead head up the next ramp to the 3rd floor. Take your first left onto the 3rd floor level, and then take another left. You will be in the parking structure right across from the Ala Moana Building, and there is a walking/stroller accessible ramp at the far corner that connects you right to the Ala Moana Building's 4th floor. Easier and has more parking than the top floor of the Ala Moana Building, covered so your car doesn't boil. Walk to the 4th floor entrance, and catch the elevator to the 12th floor. Take a right, head down the hall, and they'll be on the left side. No validation worries, no stress about how long you'll be parked. Easy. (And then you can go to Starbucks or shopping after--win-win!) Accepts credit cards. Knows what he is doing and has excellent support staff who also know what they are doing. Recommend. read more

I had originally moved to Dr. Young on referral from a loved one, and was looking for a dentist that was willing to work with me and provide comprehensive care of my teeth. I have had many dentists that provided care for my teeth, but not as it relates to my overall health. Through his care, I have not only improved the health of my teeth, but been able to get a better understanding of how my airway and dental care are all a part of my overall health. Not to mention the fact that he and his office are always willing to work with me regarding being able to afford dental care. His staff has always been friendly and helpful, I have never had to worry about my comfort and care. He always makes a point to check on me, whether cleaning or crown. Dr. Young goes above and beyond for his patients! He is a general dentist, but he considers the entire person when he sees a patient. I'm in the medical field, and I am very much a 'need to know' person. When he observed signs of upper airway restriction (something no other dentist or MD has ever mentioned and I had not heard of), he went above and beyond to send me research articles and fully explain it to me. Since my brothers and Dad both snore terribly and had similar signs as me, Dr. Young even recommended people on the mainland for my family to see. If you are looking for a dentist who cares about people, truly cares, then you should see Dr. Young. I have dental insurance but it was well worth it to go out of network to see Dr. Young! Dr. Young is an awesome professional and man. His knowledge of respiratory physiology and how it relates to dentistry is bar none. He literally saved my moms life as she can't use the CPAP machine. Since she started using the snore guard prescribed by Dr. Young she is getting back to her old self. Eventually I will get the snore guard too when I can save up enough to pay for it as I have seen how it can help people like my mom and me first hand. Dr. Young is working to get HMSA to pay for part of the cost which ranges in price from $900+ for my mom to something like $2300 for me. I have been going to Dr. Young for decades. I have all of my teeth, my last appointment was very positive and all of my teeth are health thanks to his care and guidance. I totally trust him for my health (via my teeth of course). The front desk staff always remembers who I am and what I come in for without me even having to tell them, whether it's when I call on the phone or come in person. I cannot say enough about Dr. Young and his staff. Having lived in multiple cities, I have had many dentists but have never experienced such a thorough, professional, and calming dentist as Dr. Young. I have very sensitive teeth/gums and used to be quite afraid of any dental work, but after a couple years of visits to this office that fear has disappeared and I feel calm and confident with every procedure. Dr. Young goes above and beyond routine annual check-ups and monitors changes in lifestyle, vital body signs such as blood pressure, etc to understand not just what is going on in the mouth, but what external factors could be driving changes he sees within. I have gone through Invisalign retainers and ZOOM teeth whitening with Dr. Young, as well more routine procedures such as bonding and filling replacements and have been 100% satisfied with each and every one.
