If you're coming here hoping for a Kobe experience like we were, you won't find it. The chef was nice, but lacked cooking skills. Think burnt on the outside, raw in the center - for just about everything. Flavor was extremely lacking as well. Fresh catch marlin and lobster were atrociously overcooked. Dipping sauces did not compete with Kobe either, so even trying to add your own flavors was a loss. At basically $90/person it was a wash. We could have gone to any other restaurant on the Kaanapali strip and had immensely better meals for 1/3 the price. Will not return. read more

Teppan Yaki Dan was one steakhouse that was recommended and it was at our resort. It was hard to get reservations too! Dimly lit and upscale for the space but they are remodeling! Service was good! They didn't bring any birthday cake, or complimentary toast for the birthday honoree so that was a MISS! Not cool! I'm not a big Hibachi restaurant fan although I love the food. Normally I'll go to a Hibachi carryout for my fix but she loves the whole presentation. While on my bday trip, she chose our resorts on-site Hibachi style restaurant, Teppan-Yaki Dan, as one of our dinner dining experiences. We were seated with a family of Maui natives who were also celebrating a birthday. That said, I'm also not a fan of dining with strangers at my table, which may be part of the reason I'm not big on traditional Hibachi restaurants. This particular family was super nice which made dinner a good time. The food was just as delicious as the Benihana, so you know it was good. Our chef did his thing with the food tricks and HE believed he missed his calling as a part-time comedian, honestly, he wasn't that funny..LOL! My experience at Teppanyaki Dan at the Sheraton Maui turned into a serious safety issue. On June 3, 2026, I suffered significant burn injuries from soup that was served at an extremely high temperature, requiring an emergency room visit later that evening. While the spill itself may have been accidental, food served at a temperature capable of causing burns severe enough to require medical treatment raises serious concerns about customer safety. What was most disappointing was the response afterward. I did not feel that the severity of my injuries was taken seriously, despite the fact that I required emergency medical care. The injury caused considerable pain and significantly impacted the remainder of my family vacation, preventing me from fully participating in activities and enjoying the trip I had traveled to Hawaii to experience. I hope management takes a closer look at its food temperature practices and how customer injuries are handled so that no other guest has to go through a similar experience. read more

This is a decent teppanyaki place in the bottom of the Sheraton. It's very small - just a few tables so it feels private which is kind of nice in a way. The food was good (except my steak was overcooked) and the portions were larger than most teppanyaki places I've been to. The food QUALITY was better as well. The service was also a bit more personalized (I think because it's so small). However, it was also EXTREMELY expensive. About $300 for 3 of us. Two adults and a teen. (I had one cocktail and my husband had one beer, so it wasn't a lot of drinks either.) We enjoyed it and would probably return. read more

Our chef was hilarious but after that- This was just average AT BEST. Everyone in our party who ordered lobster had shells in the lobster meat. Not ideal when you're paying almost $70. Fried rice could have been good but rather than cooking it on the grill they used pre cooked bacon which was rock hard. Our family has been wanting to try Teppan-Yaki Dan for a few years but have been unable to obtain reservations when we have been here. This year, we were able to get a reservation. The venue is small. I believe there were only 5 tables in the room. You sit with other seated guests at a large table (although our family of 4 was the only group at our table). The meal and entertainment were great. Lots of laughs, lots of food. It really is a lot of food. We came back to our hotel with to-go boxes. Yes, it is expensive but you are not only paying for the food but you are also paying for the experience. Some of the tricks were hilarious (don't want to spoil them for you) but our chef had our kids and us laughing the entire time. Definitely an experience with entertainment! We will be back for sure!! Tonight was my third time dining at this restaurant in the past year and a half and each time it's been consistent. Exactly what I expected and every visit lives up to its last! The food was good, but not any better than anywhere else on the island or in the world really. Pretty standard for high quality steak and seafood. It was wayyy too much food. What a waste. Ask for half sizes for everything, even for the adults with a big appetite. The left over food seemed excessive and just wasteful for people on vacation without days ahead of them and massive fridge space. It was overpriced for the "show" that everyone insisted we should see-- it was 30 minutes with dead silence before and after. We were the only group in the restaurant and it felt awkward. When they were done cooking they dropped off some to-go boxes and completely abandoned our table. This is a gem that u should not miss if ur on maui. We do not have many cook in front of u restaurants and the fact that the chefs have a sense of humor doing it makes it worth it. The food was outright delicious at a reasonable price. Took my family there and we had just an awesome time. It's a small restaurant so u definitely need a reservation. The food was very good. Sauces were unique but tasty. Our chef was sweet technically good, but not much of a show. The chef at the next table was so loud and overpowering, I don't know how those guests dealt with it. We were grateful for ours!! I had read previous reviews and feel the same way as others did. Hubby and I had never done hibachi while on Maui and we always enjoy "the show", so I made a reservation about a month in advance. We showed up about 20 minutes early so as not to violate "The Policy". Signage not good. Had to ask where the hell is the restaurant. It's located on a lower level of the resort. There were a few couples standing around. We approached the hostess and she informed us we could not enter the restaurant until EXACTLY our reservation time. This was getting absurd. It almost felt like we were living out the "Soup Nazi" episode of Seinfeld. We had about 15 minutes to kill, so we went back upstairs and had a quick drink in the bar. We rushed back down at our reservation time and got seated. Wow, it was comical yet semi stressful at the same time. However, once seated, we met some really nice people and enjoyed chatting with them. The chef was very good and put on a nice show. Food was very good. Good service. It is pretty expensive and fried rice is an upgrade. But we enjoyed the food, company and the service. Overall good experience but the reservation system and attitude was bizarre. The chef was great and making the reservation we were seated right on time. If your in a small group or just you and your spouse you will be seated with some strangers but that is all good. Made a reservation for 7 pm and showed up on tine, they seated the whole table at one time which makes sense - we ordered drinks, had some soup & edame and I what ordered was the fillet mignon and lobster with garlic fried rice. I was seated at a table with three other couples (two of them on their honeymoon one couple from Japan and one couple from Boston), The other couple were very nice and they were from San Francisco and being by myself was kind of awkward but all the other couples were engaging and we all had great conversations about what everybody's been doing on their vacation so it was kind of nice and we all kind a got to know each other.
