My favorite Mexican bakery! The pan dulce is great! Haven't had a chance to grab any bolillos because they go so fast. I absolutely love the piernas and niñas here! I am no longer a fan. These people are like robots and if you ask them for anything (like a box to carry your items) they seem to have some kind of short circuit and just look confused or try to charge you an extra dollar. If you need any help there, the employees are pretty much helpless and will just stand there until you ask them to get their manager. It's ridiculous. Me: ( go in and tell the girl I need to purchase $35 worth of baked goods and they will not fit on the platter provided.) I love hanging in the South Houston / Pasadena border because it's full of goodies. Amongst those goodies are the array of fresh, soft, and sweet pan dulce at Tepatitlan. This bakery is big, clean, and centrally located. When you walk in you'll be greeted by two huge Greek statues and the aroma of fresh baked bread. The set up is just like all Mexican bakeries, you grab a tray and tongs and start grabbing to your hearts delight! They have staples like conchas-- of the regular and unicorn varieties both -- Marranos, cuernos filled with cream cheese, bread pudding, cookies, and cupcakes. They also have cakes topped with fruit that you can buy whole or by the slice. If you want a custom cake they can definitely hook you up as they accept orders and have consultations to meet your needs. As a side note , on the weekend they also carry Salvadoran style Tamales. Prices are reasonable and in my opinion better than Arrandas. The quality is always on point and can hold its own against other Mexican bakeries. I can't say enough good things about this place. All the bread is soft and stay soft for days. I always buy the bread shaped like a pig and omg they are hard anywhere else you go but here they are so soft and moist. I also love the fact that they have min versions of your favorite breads. The have little conchas and little pigs they also have the big version. They also have some of the best tamales I have ever tried those can get a bit pricey so we reserve those for a once in awhile dinner. Also if you eat them at Christmas prepare to go early. Try the green pork tamales and the regular pork tamales ask for the green salsa it's taste out of this world trust me you won't regret it. I called last week to ask were they going to be open on Christmas Eve, so I could pick up an order. The lady informed yes and I would need to call a DAY before to place an order for the tamales. I called over 10 times on 12/20 to place an order. Someone answered the phone, spoke in spanish and hung up. I called again trying to get the lady attention and she hung up. The last time I called the phone just kept ringing. I called today, 12.21, to try again. NO ONE answered on my personal line, so I used the Facebook app, they answered and told me they are not taking orders. Another lady, got on the phone and act as she didn't hear me and hung up the phone. I waited about 10 minutes, called to be told that yesterday was the last day. Tried to find a donut spot to stop by and we quit trying to find one and saw a big sign for a bakery. So we figured they had to have muffins and stuff. Well we walked in and we read two signs. 1. No firearms 2. $5 minimum for credit card We had no firearms and cash so we were winning already. Then you walk in and it was like a heaven for pastries. Then we figured out that you had to grab this large metal plate and tongs and then it was like a candy store but for pastries. For a quick bite for morning pastries it did the job. If they only had a variety of more donuts and had signs in English. We stood there google translating everything. Either way we made it happen and I got two donuts for 50 cents each. Can't beat that! Horrible holiday pre-service! On Christmas Eve they had people waiting for hours for tamales. First they say wait an hour. I patiently waited. I have waited an extra hour trying to be considerate for somebody was going to have the tamales and it's a busy time of year. They had someone to take our orders to say they would give out tamales a little at a time. They never keep us updated and we're fine keeping the crowd at bay. Finally near hour three, their plan was to fulfill the preorder tamales and only sell to us if the people didn't pick up their order. I ordered a cake for my sons 2nd birthday when it was time for me to pick up the cake they had no idea about the order they had missed placed the ticket. First they tried telling my sister that the cake was not ready that they needed 20 more minutes to finish frosting the cake, so my sister asked to speak to the manager that's when the manager said they had no idea about the cake . So the lady in the front lied to us about my sons cake being frosted. The manager said they can have a a cake ready with in 20 minutes a fresh cake since they cook the cakes and all that needs to be done is be frosted she said the cake would be fresh well we said yes that's fine go ahead. The ladies working there have no sense of what customer service should be, and therefore will no longer be giving them my money. Opening the doors of this huge bakery, one is met with the sweet aromas of butter and sugar invading the senses. This bakery offers the typical Latin American sweets assortment. They also make birthday and wedding cakes, lavishly decorates desserts. The reason for my visit however were the tamales. They were INCREDIBLY good. A coworker recommended the bakery, it was a bit out of the way, but well worth the travel. I can't say enough about those tamales from the taste, portion or price. I am a believer from this day forth. 3 stars however because the customer service was subpar. No one greeted me or asked me if I needed help with anything, CLEARLY I was not the typical clientele and Spanish is not my 1st language. The only time I was asked a question was when going towards the register, the lady behind it said "can I help you with something? You're jus taking pictures". So I handed her my tray of desserts. That was a bit off putting being made feel out of place in a melting pot of a city. Will I return? Nah. Will probably send my Latinas friends to go pick up those tamales for me. Definitely not returning. There are four females behind the counter and still slow. We were in one line to pay for our baked goods and wanted to place an order for tamales. We were told to go over to the other side of counter to place that order. As we walked over the lady at the register walked away. I told two of the for females we wanted to place an order. One said, "ok". After being the only ones in that line and 8 minutes later, I let them know, again, we're waiting to place an order. As if we hadn't said anything prior, they all were surprised we were still waiting. They finally called someone out and she tells us to hold on because she needs her receipt/order book, seriously! So we wait again. After we finally place the order, we're told to go back to the other side to pay. So after all that waiting, we need to get in line again. I was a little disappointed on the last visit, as there were no ready-made tortas to go, which I like to take to work, but still the quality was good, maybe not quite at the level of a couple other panaderias. The two stars are due to the fact that these people have no type of customer service training at all what so ever. I visit this place pretty often and they never fail to disappoint. I order cakes from here all the time and for some reason they always give me something I didn't order when it comes to the cake decorations ... I can specifically say strawberries on top "only" and they bust out with kiwis and peaches .... it might not be a big deal to others but if my receipt specifies one thing I expect that exactly and nothing else. They haven't only done this to me once but more than 3 times. I am so happy I finally stopped to check out Tepatitlan Bakery last year. I highly recommend this bakery! After figuring out you're supposed to pick up a tray and tongs to make your selections, I quickly filled my tray up with empanadas, cheese pastries, bread pudding and a most delicious, soft cousin to the bolillo (sorry, don't know what they're called, but they make THE best sandwiches). And that was after walking down only one row of the bakery! While in line to pay for my overflowing bounty, I spotted an unassuming, handwritten sign that said 'Tamales' taped to a couple of coolers behind the register area. I LOVE tamales, so I had to buy a dozen of each, not realizing how big they were going to be! A half dozen of theirs looks like a dozen from other places, and are fresh, hot and double-wrapped securely in foil, so they stay hot on the ride home. The pastries were all fresh and delicious, and the tamales were the best I've ever had. I'm addicted to the Rajas (cheese) and the Pork, but the Chicken is equally good. And they are HUGE tamales at an excellent price. I brought them to our Christmas party last year and cut them up as appetizers with my own roasted red salsa and queso. My family went nuts. Everyone now drives from all over Houston to this location to buy tamales. We give them to each other as birthday gifts, so we all have a stash of them in the freezer for 'emergencies'. I'm serving them for Thanksgiving and giving them as Christmas gifts this year. The bakery is spacious and clean, and the staff is very friendly. I love practicing my Spanish with them. I recommend you special order the tamales for parties, as they often run out, especially the Rajas. Going there today to stock up again. Writing this review has made me hungry... read more

Awesome! Very nice, welcoming people, clean establishment. They have aaall kinds of delicious breads and tamales from TWO different countries in the weekend. This was a fabulous find for us. A friend recommended the place, and after visiting, I feel it was worth the drive! We were asking about the different tipes of pastries and breads, to be able to select what we were craving that day, and the ladies were soo helpfu! The only thing the bakery needs is a few tables and chairs to enjoy then and there my Chocolate de la Abuela along with the bread and pastry, which I did, sitting on the big bench they have. She grabbed a white to go box and smashed the cupcake to fit it in. I couldn't believe my eyes! I went back and the owner showed me to the back and told me that it was the machines that ran out of the meat but refused to give me my money back saying they were cold and opened.
