Today I got the pork belly, spicy salmon, and tuna w/ mayo (for my boyfriend who doesn't prefer spice). I've tried almost all the flavors except for mentai and spam. Everything tastes soo good!! Especially with the freshness, quality, and filling of these three! On our visit we ordered the Spicy salmon, Pork belly, and honey walnut shrimp. At first we were confused at not knowing which was which flavor until we saw the paper wrapper that had each name! The rice on all three was perfectly cooked, not too soft or mushy at all, firm and held together very well. The spicy salmon was not too spicy, not overly-mayo, but still creamy with great chunks of salmon. The rice ratio is great and it's not 80% rice, prices are also decent. $4 each or 3 for $10. It comes not totally wrapped in a single sheet of nori so it's not as contained and neat to eat as the traditional triangular wrap. They are also dusted in furikake so you'll be dropping rice and seasoning with each bite. Spam Musubi: good rice ratio and toasted spam with teriyaki sauce on it. Kids destroyed it and enjoyed every bite. Honey Walnut Shrimp: I love honey walnut shrimp and this was a must order. Tenori was the first vendor I ever tried when Rodeo 39 and remains to be my personal number 1 choice when I come here. I recommend the KBBQ, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Pork Belly, or Spicy tuna! KBBQ is probably the best option for those who are trying the rice ball for the first time. The real winner is the furikake they put on each roll. I could just eat the furikake and rice together without the protein if I had the furikake at home. The proportions are just right - not too much rice and just the right amount of filling. Sorry all hype. Very bland, very dry, and very pricey. 3 for $11 of mostly dry rice. I got the honey walnut shrimp, kbbq, and the tuna with Mayo. All needed way more seasoning, another seaweed brand maybe, and the rice was super dry too. Just overall all three were not good at all. I've been wanting to visit Rodeo39 for the longest time and I'm so glad I was able to visit. One of the must-visits is Tenori as I saw so many TikTok videos about this place and how they were all raving about how good this place is and it's actually really good! So they serve Onigiri, a traditional Japanese dish made with white rice and a filling and formed into a triangular shape. It is then often wrapped in Nori. So is it Onigiri? Musubi? Which one is it? Onigiri and Musubi are the same thing and are used interchangeably, but if you want to remember what it is, it's essentially a delicious rice ball. Fun fact, omusubi is the same as musubi but when you put an "o" before it, it makes it more of a polite word. I came here with my kid on a Wednesday around noon. It was the last week of winter break for her, so she wanted to come here to enjoy a yummy lunch. This is located inside Rodeo 39, at the corner of Beach Boulevard and Garden Grove Boulevard. This food hall usually gets crowded, especially during prime lunch time (haven't been here in the evenings but assuming it's just as crowded). Although the parking lot is fairly big, it fills up pretty fast as there are other businesses and eateries, too. It was getting packed when we arrived, but luckily we found a spot. Tenori's menu is pretty simple: spam musubi and onigiri - pork belly, spicy tuna, tuna w/mayo, mentai, spicy salmon, KBBQ, and honey walnut shrimp (there's also spicy ahi poke for $9.00). It's $4.00 for one, or mix and match 3 for $11.00. We ordered the 3 for $11.00 (spam, KBBQ and honey walnut shrimp) and a lychee lemonade ($4.50). There was a short line, but it went kind of slow because everyone had to order on the kiosk (there's only one). The musubi and onigiri were good! The spam was a nice thick cut, and there was enough KBBQ meat. The honey walnut shrimp was a bit lacking in flavor for me, but the furikake made up for that. If anything, I wished they were bigger in size, considering the price. I shared the 3 with my kid, but had I eaten all 3 by myself, I'd probably want a little bit more, like a side salad, to feel like I had a good meal. Also, they were so crumbly, especially the KBBQ, which fell apart after a bite. Good to have a fork or chopsticks on hand. This spot is located in Rodeo 39! One of the newer dinging halls in OC. They do not have their own seating area BUT they are located in the middle of the hall where there is plenty of seating. I ordered the 3 onigiri for $10 -onigiri are filled rice balls wrapped in nori (dried seaweed) For the filling I chose: kbbq, salmon, and pork belly the 3 top sellers! All onigiri were about palm sized and rice to filling ratio was good. I personally thought I'd like the pork belly the most but ended up liking the spicy salmon. The pork belly filling had larger chunks of meat and and although there were bits of fat it was very dry. Same for the kbbq, it was on the drier side but the sliced onions helped with that. So of course the spicy salmon wasn't! The pieces of salmon were the right size and the creamy spicy mayo was delicious. All onigiris were also sprinkled with furikake (sweet and savory rice seasoning - nori, sesame seeds, salt, sugar) which I love! This spot is good for a quick meal - grab and go. Located inside the Rodeo 39 on Beach blvd be sure to come off peak hours as parking in this center can be a nightmare especially on the weekends. Thankfully, the service at Tenori is relatively prompt. You place an order at the counter and they provide you with a pager when you order so can walk around if not familiar with this food court. As to the food tried the trio combo and selected their spicy salmon, Korean bbq, and tuna. They were in that order favorite to least. The salmon had surprising flavor, the kbbq is as would expect sweet, and the tuna was more towards the bland side. It is notable and appreciated that this is one vendor that does scrimp on too much rice and less filling. Tenori provides a good portion of protein so every bite get a proper amount. The price may be somewhat on the high side for a nigiri but it's worth a try especially if looking for a savory light meal/snack. read more

The way they put the onigiri together and presentation is definitely 5 stars. Unfortunately for me... the flavors, Authenticity and texture of the rice and filling was a miss. We got a variety: Bulgogi, tuna, spicy tuna, honey walnut shrimp and spam. The only good one for me was the spam. The others needed more flavor and the tuna, spicy tuna were too mushy. The Bulgogi I found to be too dry. The one I was most excited to see was the honey walnut shrimp.... It didn't taste like honey walnut shrimp at all. All you bite into is batter and light Mayo flavor. Their rice wasn't authentic to actual Japanese onigiri as it was too soft/mushy. However, you can tell they put effort into every order because it was put together very nicely and is great for pictures. I just wish it tasted better. Also... one thing to mention is that they don't tell you which is which so you kind of just have to bite into it. We asked for the pork belly but it was all gone! I was bummed as I knew this was a popular tenori. Instead we got the Kbbq, tuna mayonnaise, and honey walnut prawns. They came out pretty fast and each flavor was quite distinct. My husband liked the Kbbq which was filled with spiced beef. The honey walnut was great too and was still crispy! The tuna mayonnaise needed more salt and was a bit bland. The seaweed and seasoning on the outside in each tenori was on point and really complimented the flavors. The rice was fresh and moist too. This place was inside Rodeo 39 and I usually don't see Onigiri being made to order so I decided to try it. The menu is simple with 8 types of Onigiri. You order everything on a large monitor. I also like how there is a sign that changes colors so you have an idea how long you have to wait on your order depending on when you go. You can get 1 for 4 or 3 for 11. So I ordered two 3 for 11 combos with 2 orders of pork belly, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon with 2 orders of Unagi sauce and Spicy Mayo on the side. All of this costed me about $25. The Spicy Tuna and the Spicy Salmon were both good but I liked the Salmon better. My parents liked the Pork Belly also. I also like how the paper wrapper has the which Onigiri it has. I drove very much out of the way to come here, and I have no regrets. Tenori has become my favorite onigiri spot (sorry, Sunny Blue) for its flavors, portions and pricing. So far, I've tried Spicy Tuna, Mentaiko, Spicy Salmon, KBBQ, Honey Prawn. ALL of them were winners and heroes in their own way, but I'd recommend skipping Honey Prawn since the other flavors were so impactful. They are $4 each or 3 for $10... highly recommend opting in for a few. Two can split one, given the size, but you'll likely not want to share. The staff are great and orders came out quickly. The line to order can get pretty long, though. But Tenori's popularity is well-deserved! Find them at the Rodeo Public Market. Great option for a quick meal on the go, lunch with friends, or date night with drinks nearby. Honey Walnut Prawn: 4/5 This definitely was my favorite of all of the rice balls that I tried. There was a good amount of filling and it was definitely honey walnut prawn. The most pronounced flavor to me was the walnut. The crispy shrimp and nuts were a good contrast to the soft rice and savory furikake coating. Mentai: 4/5 This was also very good and they packed a good amount of mentaiko into the rice ball. Mentaiko, or myeong-ran in Korean, is spicy fermented pollack roe and is extremely delicious. It is spicy, savory, rich, has a strong-ocean essence, and slightly bitter/fermented. If you are not a fan of seafood this is not for you, but if you do want to try something different, I would say that Tenori offers a very good mentaiko rice ball. Pork Belly: 2/5 I really did not like this one, to be frank. The meat was very sweet and tasted strongly of soy sauce. The bonito flakes on the outside helped a bit but yeah still not a fan. I felt that the flavors were very underwhelming and the intense sweetness was off putting. Lychee Lemonade: 4/5 Their lychee lemonade is pretty good and a lot better than a lot of places that I have had similar drinks at. Lemonade is always pretty sweet so I won't ding them there. The lychee flavor does not taste artificial and there is not that thick sort of syrup taste that you get when restaurants use a lychee syrup. It's perfect if you want something substantial and healthy-ish but not too heavy although I'd get all pork belly next time. When I went it was during the world cup at lunch time and there was no one in line but there was about a 10 minute wait for them to prep it.
