Part of the reason is that Menards doesn't always carry the tool brands I prefer. The other issue is loading larger materials. Unless you're purchasing from the outdoor lumber yard, there isn't a convenient loading area. For example, if you buy a 4×8 sheet of plywood from inside the store, loading it into your vehicle can be a challenge. The Menards location in Franklin has a designated loading area for these types of purchases, and I find that much more convenient. I'd love to see a similar setup at this store. Other than those issues, Menards is still a good choice for many of the home improvement items I regularly buy.

They also pointed out that Home Depot was running a special sale with a better price. I really appreciate that kind of open and honest customer service. Currently, the best deal by far for all brass is Astor Marris but prices are fluctuating dramatically differently by brand. Their lowest price kitchen and bathroom pulls are not cheaply made products, they start at good, lots of intermediate better, and a startling selection for those for whom money is no object. When I asked why not, he alleged that he would be out of business in a week if he did and that he loses money to ship broken tools to Craftsman. This greedy shyster is more than happy to sell Craftsman products all day long for profit but won't do the mandatory support of the product after the sale. Unfortunately, this most recent experience was disappointing. I ordered a laser level online, and it arrived the very next day. Great! But when I opened the package, it was obvious the box had already been opened. It appeared that I had received a returned item. The laser level powered on and worked right out of the box, but it had a unique defect. It can be powered by either standard batteries or a rechargeable battery pack. To switch between the two, you have to remove the battery cover. The problem was that the battery cover was completely stuck and would not come off, making it impossible to change battery types. I brought it back to the return counter and explained the issue to the employee. He tried removing the cover himself and couldn't get it off either. He then processed the return and placed a sticker on the box. I asked what the sticker indicated, and he said it identified the item as being returned because it was defective. I then asked whether there was any way to communicate the specific defect to the person who would inspect the return, since the unit otherwise appeared to work normally. He told me there wasn't. We both agreed that, because the defect wasn't immediately obvious, there was a good chance it could end up back on the shelf. Maybe the next customer won't need to switch to standard batteries and will never notice the problem. That possibility makes me a little hesitant to buy certain tools online. When I purchase something advertised as new, I expect it to be factory sealed and not someone else's return. Home Depot has a great system for ordering and returns, but I think this part of the process could use some improvement.

They hang up on you, talk over you, and don't resolve any problems. They are vastly inappropriate and unprofessional. They will leave their deliveries outside even when you ask them to bring them into your house.
