What used to cost $20 is now costing me and my family $75 to enter for the day. I know a lot of people that come here that are refusing to come here because of the price alone. It seems like camp Tonkawa needs to be on the phone with their insurance because their insurance going up is forcing people to not come anymore. ( that's what they told me.) Side note- this place is not nearly as "crazy" as it used to be since the main tree over the water has fallen. The Volleyball Net has been down for a long time And families used to bring their small grills to cook for everybody out there for free. It was more welcoming, and I have watched it slowly turned into what it is now. Everything a gift from God and I wonder if the ownership realizes it's steady decline. It might be time to consider a change in ownership.

No response. Not even a sorry about that. Figured he's older maybe he's sleeping but no. Still no response on Sunday morning nor Monday morning. First time visiting any KOA campground. Typically we do Lake Livingston State park, but this was a…read morenice switch up. This review is mostly about the KOA, but I will use the state park as a comparison. First I should say, the staff at the KOA are very pleasant, not that the State Park isn't, but everyone at the KOA was helpful, waving, driving around checking on you. They take very good care of the campground as well. The bathrooms and showers were the cleanest of any campground I have ever been too, especially compared to the state park. I also would see the maintenance team cleaning up sites and shoveling out fire pits. We stayed in a tent site, and one of my gripes would be, that the sites are pretty small. It would be difficult to get two decent size tents on once site, without being right next to the fire pit at least. Compared to a state park site where you have a ton of space, this was kind of a bummer. The way it sits now, there is a large open green space across from the campsites, which did allow for more room to run around and explore, but this area is marked as future development. Once this place builds the remaining sites, I think the loss of the bonus space will likely turn us away. The only other issue I had with the place was the locations of the bathrooms. Staying in the tent site, it is quite the walk to either of the bathrooms, especially with kids at night and such. The exercise is great and all, but when you have to walk a kid that far to the bathroom at 2 AM, it gets kind of old. The pool was very nice, clean, albeit cold due to the time of year, but I am sure it would be very nice in the summer. Its mostly shallow, 3 feet on both ends, 4 in the middle, and a large shallow area for little kids. The hot tub is also a nice addition. The beach area is about what I would expect from a lakeside beach, but don't expect is to be like an ocean beach. The water off the beach was nice and clean, sandy, few rocks, and no sea weed. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves, and met some very nice people, and that really made the trip worth it for us. Like I said, if the green space wasn't there, it would have been a bit of a bummer, but it was a very nice as it is right now.

This place deserves multiple positive reviews but here's the first…read more We were searching for a place near Caddo Mounds before moving on to Mammoth National Monument and found Southern Pines RV Campground on-line. This is a very nicely thought out new RV Park. The couple that owns it provides personal and friendly service. We would stay again when in this area. I called and left no message but was called a few minutes later which is nice and she requested I text the info (e.g. dates, size of RV) and to expect a callback in about half an hour for payment info and this happened as promised. They sent several e-mails two of which I could electronically sign or sign on arrival. This provides them some legal protection which is probably the way new parks will be administered. I was also asked if we had a pressure regulator and was offered a loaner if we needed it. When I mentioned they are near Caddo Mounds she reminded me it was about 30-40 minutes away which is another example of her being straight and helpful. She asked when we'd arrive or if we'd text so she could meet us but it would be fine to just drive to our assigned site. It is very easy to locate your site here. This place is well designed. There are thirty pads of which two are pull-through. The way the pull-thru sites are setup I think it would have been easier to use a back-in site (who am I to judge having pulled into the pull-thru twice however the guy in the other one said he had an issue too) since there is a lot of space in front of them. A small number of back-in provide the possibility of your rear coach tires going over a sloped end so if you get one of these back up slowly with an observer out back. Even the practical amenities are designed nicely here. The fence, Wi-Fi towers, space lawn lights and concrete road and concrete site pads are all nicely done. Every sight has a nice picnic table. There are communal fire pits one of which has a concrete picnic pad and they are working on the laundry room which looks like it will have two dryers and two washers. Kids ride bikes around the loop which is all inside the fence and has a 5MPH speed limit. They also have a couple of unique swings. Walking beyond the gate is following a state highway so the walkability for most is inside the fence. They have a dog park and people use it. There's a service station selling gas and diesel you can see from the park entrance. The park is on the same state highway but the background noise is minimal. They offer some discounts.

With exception of the huge oak by the office. The lots are nice and level. The staff was very kind and inviting. But it's just, lacking when it's so incredibly hot in Texas summers. I realize trees are expensive and take forever to grow. But make the investment! It'll pay off dividends. The park had what looked like a nice pool. Had a little horse pen setup for your dogs to run around in. One great thing was the grass in-between the sites didn't have any sticker burrs in it. So the dogs feet were thankful for that. During the summer we love the beach area and the pool. Unfortunately this time of year the fish aren't biting well. My issues this time were that the table at our site was very rusty and very lopsided. We had to keep several paper plates under it to keep drinks from toppling over. Also the first day we were there, I could not take my kids to the pool area and hot tub area because there were people in there with their dog running around and not on a leash. Even though it was small it came running up to the fence barking and growling at our dog as we walked by so there was no way I was taking my kids inside. Our fire pit was full of trash when we arrived and it had rained so my husband and son had to empty it out. There was also a lot of dog feces everywhere. It seems no one cleans up after their own pets. I took off one star for the issues because we normally don't have them so I'm hoping it was a one-off. We will definitely be back.
