My son has been a patient at Tendercare Pediatrics for about a year and a half, and we've always had a great experience with Dr. Aguilar and his staff. I really appreciate their appointment system and being able to get same or next day appointments when needed. Recently, my son had several days of fever, red eyes, and a rash on his hands and feet. I assumed it was hand, foot, and mouth disease, but during the exam the rash on his feet had already disappeared. Even though my son wasn't showing all the symptoms of Kawasaki Disease, Dr. Aguilar trusted his instincts, explained his suspicions and the urgency of treatment within 10 days of fever onset, and ordered blood work to confirm. After researching Kawasaki Disease myself, I took my son to the ER and shared Dr. Aguilar's concerns. They confirmed it was Kawasaki, admitted him, and started treatment right away. Thankfully, my son is doing much better and has no lasting heart damage. I'm incredibly grateful for Dr. Aguilar's quick thinking and for taking my concerns seriously, even with my son not showing all of the typical symptoms. read more

Before the access fee and even after I've disagreed with Dr. Aguilar, I would've given his practice a 5 star rating. However, we left his practice this year. Dr. Aguilar had told me at least 6 months in advance that he would only be taking PPO, so I planned for it and switched my insurance. This also coincided with a life event which made sure I had PPO insurance before the change. To my surprise, when I was trying to book physicals and flu shots for my kids, I was informed of the access fee to book an appointment. This, on top of the co-pay, and everything else they submit to the insurance. To say I was angry, undermines the feeling. I delayed my kids' appointments until Jan 2026 and switched to a new PCP. My new PCP has had to request my children's records more than once, now. The price of health insurance has increased significantly and adding an access fee on top of that really adds insult to injury. read more

I've been taking my kids to Dr. Aguilar and his staff for years I'm talking 8+ years and just this last year or so I've been having issues with their new appt and patient payments. A couple years ago they started the whole same day appts or make an appt the day before, at the beginning it was okay but now every time I've called to make an appt or when I call to take my kids in because they're sick, there's never availability. And they leave you stuck with one or two options that are difficult to make it to. Before today I called around Thanksgiving for my son because he was having asthmatic symptoms and she pretty much told me there's nothing available suggested I take him to "urgent care" instead. So what's the point of same day appts? Obviously you call because you need to go in right? Second, I had to become a cash patient they no longer accepted my insurance (Downey Location) If I wanted to keep my kids at their location which I preferred to due to it being convenient and I never had issues before policy changes. As an existing patient I was being charged $125 per visit per child (2), Now I'm finding out their new visit fee is $150 and I would have to leave a deposit of $50 to secure my appt. Mind you this was not disclosed until after the appt was made, when I received a separate phone call to make that deposit payment. I cancelled my appt at this point. Luckily I found another pediatrician close by that accepted our insurance and got an appt when needed to accommodate our request. read more

Dr. Aguilar and Dr. Eric are the absolute best. We were referred to Tender Care by CHOC after a very scary asthma related hospitalization. My then 4 year old had struggled since birth with her respiratory issues up to that point. Since being with Dr. Aguilar, my daughter has not had a single asthma attack, NOT ONE. She is almost 8, it's been almost 4 years of perfectly controlled asthma and a healthy happy kid who can run, dance, and play like any other kid. Best pediatrician I've ever met! I had been taking my son to another doctor and was not happy with how they were addressing my concerns. My son had a rash on his face for months and our doctor gave us no advice just to leave it alone and not even use moisturizer. Well I took him into this office, dr. A suggested removing different foods food his diet, as food allergies is a common rash cause, and said he had dermatitis and to hydrate several times a day. Within days his rash was completely gone, and we figured out berries was the root cause. I can't be more greatful. I have only been going to this clinic since February 2019 this year. In these short months I have loved everything about the clinic. The staff is friendly, you can get same day appointments, and the wait time is not long. One of my sons had a recurring cough for almost 3 months with no fever or any phlegm, Dr Aguilar prescribed asthma medication and it took about 2 days to kick in and the cough went away. My previous pediatrician did tell me my son had mild asthma but never said he needed anything for it. I've gone to this new clinic a bunch of times since we switched in Feb, since I do have 2 younger children and they get sick and all, I can honestly say that it is a great clinic, the doctors listen and help you find solutions. Dr. Aguilar has been our pediatrician since my first was an infant; more than ten years now. He has always shown professionalism and care to what I take my daughters in for. There have been occasions where they get sick on the weekend and I take them to urgent care; many times the nurses/doctors there don't know exactly what they have. Dr. Aguilar is very knowledgeable and is always spot on with the illnesses my daughters are going through. I really appreciate that they do same or next day appointments because with everything that is going on right now, most times we need to get in quickly. This is isn't about Dr. David Aguilar he's awesome he's been seeing my son since he was a baby.. and he's great. This is about Nurse Practitioner Heather she shouldn't deal with kids making a disgusted face at his symptoms, well he's just a kid. The part that really really really bothered me and I have to emphasize the really, is when she had the audacity to say.. "it's not easy dealing with kids with his condition" ah no he doesn't have a "condition" you ignorant human he has a disability called Autism and yes he acts different and yes he's sensitive... and I don't think I should but the one teacher her about children with disabilities you can deal with a child with a autism maybe she shouldn't be dealing with children at all. I was so upset, at the face at my son I felt so bad, and my son trying to be nice to her how he can and her ignoring him because he has a "condition" no... he's different he communicates different but he is a great kid.. so I will never ever see her again.. I hope she learns how to deal with its children with disabilities without making "yucky" faces and dusting her self of with a paper towel where my son touched her. My kids have been coming to see Dr. Aguilar since my son was a newborn. He's almost 10 years old now and I also bring my 3 yr old and my 2 yr old. Dr. Aguilar right away struck me as a knowledgeable, kind and direct medical professional. He knows right away what your child has and how to treat them. I recently brought my 3yr old son in for a recurring high fever he'd had for 2 days, after being turned away by a couple urgent cares who as soon as they heard he had a fever refused to see him for fear of Covid 19. The Tendercare staff asked Covid related questions when I made the appointment and checked both of our temps before we went in. They are very cautious but courteous. You could tell safety is a priority, right up there with patient's health. Dr. Aguilar came in with a face shield, asked Covid related questions, washed his hands, checked out my son and proceeded to diagnose him with a common childhood virus. He answered all of my questions and concerns but most importantly, he gave me the peace of mind I had been searching for after a couple days of dealing with uncaring urgent cares. All the precautions made me feel at ease especially since my husband is asthmatic and at a higher mortality risk should he catch the virus. So I was very comfortable bringing my 2 yr old in after she caught the virus from her brother a few days later. I trust Dr. Aguilar with the most important thing in my life, the health of my family. I highly recommend him whenever anyone asks for a quality pediatrician. read more

My 2 boys have been coming to this office since they were born. They are now 9 and 12 years old. I've always been impressed with their professionalism, attentive and speedy customer service. Not to mention how clean the office is. I just paid a visit today, during this worldwide pandemic and I must say that I am impressed with the way they are handling it all. 1. You call the office once you arrive, they take your temperature upon arrival. Once you're cleared they allow you in the office. 2. No waiting room! You go directly into a nice clean and sanitized room. Ac is also pumping to kill any germs! 3. All the nurses have masks, gloves and are sanitizing around you. 4. Doctor Aguilar came into the room looking like he was about to go into surgery. Wearing scrubs, mask and a face shield! I can't ask for anything more for the safety of my children. After seeing Heather when my son was 9 months I had given up on Drs (pediatricians)being caring I thought Drs just wanted you in and out without caring about your concerns; every time I asked my old pediatrician a question or for advice she made me feel like I was being crazy so I stopped asking and just went along; after being to this facility I thank God I made a switch Heather is so sweet, caring,patient, listens, gives advice, and genuinely seems to care about my sons well being. I have been waiting for over 30 minutes now and still no sign of them calling us in. The office it's clean, but staff can really be more organized and friendly. I faxed over paperwork and I had to follow up to make sure they received it, it took them a bit too find it. Came in to my appointment and they could not find the paperwork this is not the first time this happens. Now let's move on to the friendly part you are never greeted when you come in, they are too busy holding a personal conversation. The doctors here are really good, they are actually amazing this it's why we are still coming here. I live in corona, however, this Doctor was recommended to me by a family member so I decided to take the drive. My son is now 4 and I have seen Dr. Aguilar since my sons birth. The 2 most important things to me about who treats my son is 1)how does my son feel when he is there and 2) how well does the doctor communicate to me everything that is needed. Well, My son is always handled with gentleness and care by the staff as well as Dr. Aguilar. Even when my my son was really sick and I was scared Dr. Aguilar really calmed me and assured me that my son would be ok. Sometimes medicine and medical terms can be hard to understand but he always takes his time and explains everything to me in such a calm relaxed manner that I feel like I'm family and when I leave his office I know my son is in good hands. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. We moved to Downey about 3 months ago and my daughter was assigned to doctor Aguilar in the Downey's office. Before attempting to make an appointment I called to ask if everything was good for her to go in for he 15 month check up which was coming up and they said yes but to call when she turned the 15 months to book the appointment. I called when she turned 15 months and they kept telling me there was no appointments available, I called this past Monday and finally someone started taking her info down (my daughter is 17 months) but then she stopped to tell me they are no longer taking new medical patients and to call their Huntington Park office. I called the HP office on Tuesday to make appointment for Wednesday and they said their latest appointment was already booked and asked me to call today Wednesday as early as possible because they easily get booked so I called at 9:10 am and now I get told that they only take late appointments on Mondays and the rest of the week are only morning appointments. This has been really frustrating and I have not even stepped foot in their office so I will definitely be looking somewhere else. read more

Dr. Aguilar has been my kids pediatrician from birth. I've been coming to see Dr. Aguilar for the past 23 yrs! He was my 23 yr olds,Dr. My 19yr olds Dr. And now my 11 yr olds pediatrician . He takes his time to speak to you and answer any questions You may have . His staff, well I have nothing but positive things to say about them .
