First Food is really good no complaints there and the restaurant was clean, the table and chairs were comfortable and it was decorated nicely. The problem was all regarding service and customer interaction. The server seemed not interested in doing her job or Just because she's young. My coffee cup had lipstick on it. She did replace it but never gat asked if we wanted refills. She also asked what bread we wanted with our meals and said we could get white toast, a biscuit or even a pancake. She did not tell us the pancake as our choice of bread would be up charged. I ordered hash browns they brought out the home fries instead, they did send out some hash browns to make it right. Then these people have the audacity to put tip suggestions of 30, 25, and 20 percent. Uh, come on. Nothing in that joint comes close to warranting a 30 percent tip. All that said the food was good and I would go back but based on the lack of personality and eagerness from the waitress our first impression wasn't great. So, you want a good tip, act like it, refill drinks, get the order right, inform customers of extra charges. The wait for the food wasn't long but the wait to pay did as she never bought us the check some guy just asked if we were ready to pay so we went up there and did. This diner stands out because it doesn't stand out. It doesn't try to be anything other than what it is: a long-time eatin' place that's been here for years, which has its regulars who have been coming here for years. Don't expect trendy, you ain't gwanna git it. The hunny and I had a lunch date, and with the selection that we came up with and the Texas-sized rain coming down, this was where we went. I had a shrimp po-boy with homemade potato chips, the hunny had a chicken platter. The sammy didn't stand out as anything really special, but the shrimp was cooked well and had a good taste, and the fixins were appropriate. Those potato chips are great! The hunny liked hers too, had a little trouble finishing the whole thing because there was a lot of food there. The price was good for seafood sandwich, slightly high for the rest, but you need to expect this in a small place and when the Federal Govt is collapsing the country's economy. Small surcharge if you use any payment other than cash. Now for the things of lesser importance: Texas country feel. Wood everywhere. Sit at the bar, at a table, or in a booth. Friendly workers, "thank yew, and God bless yew!" Old license plates on the wall, get a free Coke if you bring a license plate in. I've written before that if you want to see unpretentious Texas, drive off the freeway for a bit to a small town and eat at their diners. Ten West Diner is in the medium-sized-and-growing town of Orange, and is next to the freeway, so it's not isolated at all. Well I ain't family writing this review lol just smart enough to order the right things and expect patience when you dine at a small mom & pop business. My only disappointment was the cobbler which I named bread pudding due to the taste and visual presentation. It's good just not made the way I was craving. Today I ordered meatloaf and mash potatoes with veggies my food tasted good. I think some folks from Venice like to order gumbo at a diner and then complain it doesn't taste like true Cajun gumbo. It's a diner order regular diner food and it comes out excellent! Of course they offer some seasonal dishes to tie in with the Mardi Gras season does not mean this is their best dish or they are Cajun chefs. It is Texas after all. So order the biscuits with sausage gravy, fried cat fish, a egg skillet, breakfast burrito, or burger etc. There is always plenty of seating very casual and cozy and for me I feel like family when you might be far from home. read more

Let's start by saying that this restaurant is quite close to our home, so we go there for breakfast at least once a month. We've never been disappointed until this past Thursday, July 10th, 2025. I always order the same thing, senior breakfast. Two eggs, toast, and a side. It's always good but they rarely get my eggs right. That's okay, I'm not that picky. My BF always gets some sort of omelet. This time, he ordered the Southwestern omelet. When our food arrived, everything looked good and surprise! My eggs were cooked just the way I like them. Mike's omelet was another story. The bacon in the omelet tasted off. It had a very "gamey" taste. Either it was old, cooked on a dirty griddle, or made of mystery meat. It was awful. I kept expecting our waitress (didn't get her name) to come check on us so I could tell her it was bad...but she never once came back to the table. When she served our food, she plopped the check on the table and ran. Mike didn't eat the omelet. He had his grits, toast, and my toast and one egg. I got out some cash and put it on the table. She came and grabbed the cash. When she brought the change we told her about the bacon. She could see he didn't eat the omelet. She said, "Let me take that off your bill" and off she went. We didn't have a chance to say anything to her. We watched her tell the kitchen (no response from them) and then go to the cash register and try to figure out how to get us our money back. Approximately five minutes later, she came back, cash in hand, and basically threw the money at us. She never apologized, in fact she acted like the whole thing was our fault. We never asked for our money back, she just assumed. We just wanted them to know so the kitchen would fix it. Her attitude was awful. Had she bothered to check on us even ONCE during our meal, we could have avoided the situation. BTW, I always pay cash here because they charge you for using a credit card. This place is great for a quick home cooked southern cooking style meals. I've tried several things, from the pork chops, the meatloaf, the fried shrimp, the fried corn & boudin balls (chef's kiss) the club sandwich & fries and more! Some of the dishes are hit or miss, depending on who is in the kitchen, the service however is always phenomenal; think true Southern hospitality. Examples are as follows: sometimes the fried fish and shrimp is over salted, I love flavor but non over salt. The baked potato was either reheated or not heated thoroughly, wasn't fluffy and steamy, I had to get stabby with it to get my toppings mixed in and it was still not great, the fried pork chop was over done in some areas, and under some in others. Everything else has been great! The food is competitively priced with generous portions. Will continue to eat here when I'm town managing a project. read more

The reviews must be from employees and family because this definitely isn't 4 star worthy. I had a breakfast sandwich which was very bland but ok and husband wanted the seafood gumbo. The gumbo came out cold, watered down and not tasty at all. And, where was the seafood? It had shrimp and specs of fish but definitely not what he expected.
