Well I ain't family writing this review lol just smart enough to order the right things and expect patience when you dine at a small mom & pop business. My only disappointment was the cobbler which I named bread pudding due to the taste and visual presentation. It's good just not made the way I was craving. Today I ordered meatloaf and mash potatoes with veggies my food tasted good. I think some folks from Venice like to order gumbo at a diner and then complain it doesn't taste like true Cajun gumbo. It's a diner order regular diner food and it comes out excellent! Of course they offer some seasonal dishes to tie in with the Mardi Gras season does not mean this is their best dish or they are Cajun chefs. It is Texas after all. So order the biscuits with sausage gravy, fried cat fish, a egg skillet, breakfast burrito, or burger etc. There is always plenty of seating very casual and cozy and for me I feel like family when you might be far from home.

This place is great for a quick home cooked southern cooking style meals. I've tried several things, from the pork chops, the meatloaf, the fried shrimp, the fried corn & boudin balls (chef's kiss) the club sandwich & fries and more! Some of the dishes are hit or miss, depending on who is in the kitchen, the service however is always phenomenal; think true Southern hospitality. Examples are as follows: sometimes the fried fish and shrimp is over salted, I love flavor but non over salt. The baked potato was either reheated or not heated thoroughly, wasn't fluffy and steamy, I had to get stabby with it to get my toppings mixed in and it was still not great, the fried pork chop was over done in some areas, and under some in others. Everything else has been great! The food is competitively priced with generous portions. Will continue to eat here when I'm town managing a project.

I could tell from the pictures and reviews this was my kind of place. They were super busy, but the breakfast was on point. If you like an old diner set up this is your place. Me and my two boys enjoyed the heck out of it

Every year we drive to Texas and usually stop here still enjoyable and cozy atmosphere. Food is good. People are friendly the Texas way.

This diner is simple, clean, and efficient. Their food is tasty and reasonably priced. The wait staff is friendly and on it. You might not notice the place driving by as it's not flashy but it's worth a stop.

The best food around. Owned by a local, NOT a franchise. Easy access off and back onto the interstate.

This place has been here for a while and they just want to serve a good meal with no frills. They'll promptly greet you when you walk in the door. Take a seat and make your pick off the menu. We opted to share the chicken fried steak with mash potatoes & green beans. Portions were plentiful and they were kind enough to split the portions in the kitchen before serving so we each got our own plate full of deliciousness. These are real homemade sides, nothing out of a can! The green beans were soft and flavorful and the mashed taters were fluffy and thick that would stick to the ceiling if you tossed them up! Lol! Try the cracklins! OMG! Fresh made to order! Buy by the lb of specific dollar amount. Overall a delicious food experience. We will definitely be stopping in again when in the area. Don't be put off by the location (it's next to a small casino), you'll be glad you stopped in!

As always, the restaurant was packed--which is always a great sign that something good is happening in that kitchen! My waitress, Bailey, was sweet, attentive, and very accommodating, making the experience even more enjoyable. I started with a cup of their famous tomato bisque, and let me just say... I simply cannot come here without ordering it. This heartwarming soup, made with slow-roasted tomatoes, shrimp stock, cream, and Creole seasoning, is rich, comforting, and truly soothing to the soul. It remains my absolute favorite--if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it! For my entrée, I ordered the Avocado Multi-Grain Toast. It's a light and satisfying plate featuring mashed avocado spread over thinly sliced multi-grain bread, served with your choice of sausage or bacon, an egg cooked your way, and a fresh tomato and cucumber salad. Everything on the plate was well-prepared and very tasty. If I could make one small personal tweak, I would love to see this served on a thicker slice of buttery toasted sourdough, maybe with a sprinkle of feta on top. That's just my personal preference and how I enjoy my avocado toast--others may find this version just right as is! The search continues for my perfect avocado toast, but this was a delicious and enjoyable stop along the way. Happy Sunday, and keep sharing those amazing finds on Best Bites!

On my most recent visit, I sat at the bar and started with a Buffalo Trace bourbon while looking over the menu. The bartenders here are always attentive and welcoming; in fact, the bartender remembered me from previous visits, which speaks volumes about the level of service they provide. Dinner was a ribeye cooked medium-rare with asparagus, and it was exactly what a good steak should be: perfectly cooked, with great flavor, and served hot. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. I followed that with their lemon icebox dessert and a lemon drop, both excellent, and finished the evening with a Four Roses Small Batch Select for a nightcap. What really sets J Wilson's apart is the staff's consistency and professionalism. The bartenders, servers, and kitchen team all seem to work together smoothly and take pride in the experience they deliver. Even on a busy night, with spring break crowds and daylight saving time throwing schedules off, the service remained attentive, and the food came out exactly right. If you're looking for a reliable steakhouse in Beaumont with excellent steaks, a strong bourbon selection, and top-notch service, J Wilson's is hard to beat. Five stars. Always a great experience.

Real Southern Cooking appeared to be the tiny self-proprietor choke-and-puke that I love. Well, I tried it today. The Hunny and I have been married for 21 years, and between all of the choices, this is the one where we went for our anniversary. Real Southern Cooking looks more cafe than restaurant. Not fancy at all, just a few tables in a small area. The entire menu fits on two 8.5x11 pieces of paper on the wall. It appeals to those who say "I just want good food at a low price" - um, like me. It felt down home, too. We were surprised to see a Hispanic mama & her son behind the counter; service with a smile. The black man I expected in the back was seated at a table, finishing his lunch, and he was not only informative about the spice on everything, but friendly after witnessing us praying before eating. Some utility workers came in too, "I wish I could order everything!" It appears to be a place with a daily clientele. We both had chicken: the Hunny, chicken spaghetti, me, fried chicken. She liked hers, but found it a little spicy, like the chef included Rotel Tomatoes in the sauce. I had three small pieces, and it reminded me of extra-crunchy skin at places like Krispy Krunchy Chicken. The meat was tender and not too hot. 2 sides are included, and the amount of red beans & rice I got was larger than a mere side. Real Southern Cooking is indeed one of those places that fits the Southern diner stereotype, including the good food at a low price. Not totally Texas, but totally Southern. If you're traveling on I-10, it is located downtown, a few miles off the freeway. A few more items on the menu would take it up to 5-star territory; as you see, many Yelpers have it there now. Enjoy it now, ya hear?
