This place is so nostalgic! I remember coming here with family years ago -- it's still the same circular space where everyone gets their own hot pot. The place hasn't changed much in years. The staff is friendly, and the food is served quickly. The standard AYCE Hot Pot comes with a stable selection of two beef options, one pork, saba fish, fish balls, chikuwa, quail egg, raw egg, mixed vegetables (e.g. three types of mushroom, spinach, cabbage, tofu, taro) among a couple other options! By default, it has a few soup bases, but the ones I got (miso and sukiyaki) were a $2 addition each. The more premium option would run around $45 I believe which includes the additional soup options. They also have combos that are pretty good if AYCE isn't for you. read more

I honestly hate posting things like this, but I left really disappointed and feel like I should be real about it. We spent close to $100 here and it just didn't feel worth it at all. I ordered the Angus beef (the mid-tier option), and it was so tough and dry... it honestly felt like I was chewing on something between paper and beef jerky. For something that's supposed to be a more premium cut, it was a letdown. Did I still eat it? Yes. Did I tell my husband it was fine so he wouldn't feel bad about us spending that much? Also yes. I just didn't want to turn it into a whole thing over a meal that already felt like a waste. What made it harder to ignore was the overall condition of the place. The windows were dirty, things felt a bit unorganized, and the whole restaurant just had this worn-down, low-effort vibe. I don't usually pay much attention to ratings, but I did notice the B rating and, unfortunately, it matched how everything felt. There was even a fly around our table and food the whole time, which just made it worse. The sauces were really runny and didn't have much flavor, which is disappointing because that's such a big part of shabu. I do want to say the service itself wasn't bad the staff was kind but you could tell they weren't exactly happy to be there, and it kind of added to the overall energy. It just sucks because this is the only shabu spot in town, and I really wanted to like it. When you're paying $29-$39 per person, you expect a certain level of care and quality, and this just didn't feel like that. I really do hope they take feedback like this and improve. This place is like a love or hate relationship. For sure the last few times I felt like they were planning on closing and had no interest in running a Shabu restaurant anymore due to the lack of customer service, always missing ingredients and bases . But this time around it was very crowded, the service was excellent and it felt like they were improving. So I am excited to see where this goes. They started serving some alcohol again that I noticed. I will say the meat quality seem to not be good though at this time around your head, usually the short rib here is delicious, but it was pretty mediocre. I also ordered the beef broth and it was so bland barely any flavor in the soup. We will continue to return it is mainly because we love the pork bone soup base here. And hope to see improvement to how it used to be. We're looking for something that has a little bit of fat on it. I ordered the hot pot with the pork bone broth and it was good I think I got the 6oz of meat if not the next size up, can't remember but it was more than enough for me. Meat was fresh and all the veggies that came with was served very generously. Food came out quite fast considering there was only 1 server but the restaraunt wasn't full or busy at the time we arrived. The "beef Toro" or beef belly was tasty also . Came here with a couple of friends for dinner. We had to wait cause there was a party ahead of us, so we explored the New Haven City Market that just opened next door. Just fyi, finding parking sucked and I ended parking on the street. You have been warned. We seated ourselves by the bar once we got in. Restaurant was pretty small for a hot pot place. AYCE is available but they don't have a self-serve buffet like some hot pot places. Instead, you're given a laminated menu with a dry erase marker. Meat quality is pretty good and they have your standard hot pot offerings like your veggies. Service here was good and attentive. Nice staff is a plus. Only thing I'm not used to is the stove being far and reading for my bowl to feed myself. Staff go around adjusting the settings instead of yourself. Gave us spoiled mushy rice (had to go over to Haven City to buy a side of white rice cause they didn't have fresh rice to replace). The ramen noodles that were given were mushy even before putting it in the broth. Sauces did not taste the same, salty as hell. Waited over 20 min for them to give my 10oz Angus Beef. This shabu place has been around for a while, we came in couple times on a weekday and a holiday weekend. I liked the traditional Japanese shabu seatings. The AYCE menu price differences were a bit much. I don't think the holiday price was worth the food value though. Also the sake price markups were a bit high for a local restaurant. However, the broth we have tried were flavorful and comforting. I especially liked the kimchi broth and it was spicy enough for me. The meat quality was decent and the shrimps were very well prepared. But it always took long time for the shrimps to come out. I liked the veggie selections which are a bit more than usual shabu places. The service was friendly and attentive enough. I think it's better to order AYCE when you are super hungry. I came here on Wednesday night and thought that it would have been a great dinner place considering I was in the area and was about to go visit the claw machine arcade next-door anyways. The reviews on yelp show that this place was pretty good so I was excited to try their all you can eat hot pot. The restaurant was kind of small, and everyone sat in a counter seating fashion. Each person got their own individual hot pot. HOWEVER, BEWARE THAT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE HOTPOT IS ON THE OTHER SIDE NOT FACING YOU SO YOU WOULD HAVE TO ASK THE WORKERS TO ADJUST THE HEAT. I got the tum Yum soup broth and paid extra for that with the standard all you can eat meat. I would not recommend the Tum Yum soup for anyone who comes here. It did NOT taste like Tom Yum - it tasted more like Benito and fishy instead of spicy shrimp. My sister got the citrus kombu, and she was also very disappointed in her soup because she said it tasted bland. My brother got the miso soup with mild or medium spicy, and that one actually tasted decent. The service was great. The workers were very attentive to us and asked us often if we needed more water. However, I don't think the quality of the meat was great. Some of the meats came out, looking a brown and dark than I would have expected because it's old or poor quality meat. For a meal that became about $130 total for three people. I would have expected that the meats or soup base were better quality. read more

Not sure what it's like now, but this was one of the more popping restaurants in this plaza with multiple attempts to go here met with really long waits. My bro, his gf, and I were hungry for dinner and saw that there finally wasn't too much of a wait here on a weekday for dinner, so we jumped at the opportunity to finally dine here. There's high and low bar counter seating and also some tables at the periphery that currently wasn't occupied when we were there. Just a note though, the higher seats are a bit awkward in spacing so if you're dining in bigger than a group of 2, it might be slightly awkward. Random aside, I did find the wire wrapping with the paper that goes around veggie bundles in my veggies, but small mistake and no big deal overall. We ended up ordering the dinner for 2 combo that comes with any 2 meats or seafood items, 2 broths, veggies and noodles for 2 and a separate choose 2 combo at the 10 ounce size. In hindsight, it would have been better if we split the dinner for 2 amongst the 3 of us since it's a HUGE amount of meat for the dinner for 2. They also ran out of lamb, so my bro and his gf ended up doubling up for the beef as their protein and it ended up being a massive amount of meat that was almost borderline difficult to finish on top of all of the veggies and carbs provided to us (rice, udon and instant noodles, etc.). We ended up paying extra for their more premium soups such as the sukiyaki, and even more premium spicy tomato (not spicy at all by the way) and their Tomyum. Tomyum had a decently good sourness and savoriness to it and the sukiyaki was a tad sweet, but not bad. Veggies included lots of spinach, much more than what I'm used to at other shabu shabu places but nothing so bad. I ended up getting the beef and pork for my choose 2 combo and I honestly regret getting the pork. I've had better quality pork at other shabu shabu places, but it ended up being really dry and bland here, despite cooking at optimal times and temperatures in the broth. Sort of a pain to finish eating, but I've learned my lesson. My brother also got the yuzu-ade which was refreshing. Nicely salty citrus soda drink that I'd order again for sure. Speaking of yuzu, their ponzu was nicely refreshing and flavorful too. Definitely made the pork more bearable, as well as the large amount of meat we had. For the price point and quality, I honestly think there's better shabu shabu options out there especially if you venture more towards San Gabriel area or even towards Rowland Heights. read more

The place is a little run down inside, but it's cozy in a weird way. Had a late dinner here on weekend at 8:30 so there was minimum wait for the servers to get the bar ready. They have ala carte and all you can eat. We weren't super hungry so we ordered the dinner for 2 as it seemed like good value. Just look at how much meat there is! You can order two different soups, pick an appetizer, and pick two different meats. We ended up bringing 40% of this home for another meal since there was a lot of food left. Value is good. Located inside the Hong Kong Plaza, please keep in mind that this plaza is currently renovating, so parking can be tricky: - 2x brown rice ($2) - 2x AYCE ($62) SUBTOTAL = $64 TAX = $6.08 TOTAL DUE = $70.08 Surprisingly, there was no wait and not a lot of people inside. We enjoyed the AYCE-style hot pot and I'm glad I was able to eat seafood! There's also cotton candy + green tea ice cream you can get towards the end (no limit obviously - but it doesn't taste authentic...I think it's Thrifty ice cream). I also received a flower from one of the employees who stated that they are giving out flowers to all of the ladies (regardless if you are a mother or not). However, I glanced around the area and saw that some ladies didn't get any flowers lol; there was a lady who was dining in with her kiddos, but I didn't see any flower. We were their first customer right when they opened . We noticed right away the unpleasant odor inside, the smell of wet mop that's been sitting in the bucket for weeks . I am a fan of hot pots and shabu shabu, and I love how this place has many cuts, meats, seafoods, broths! I have had the pork bone broth, but it's the curry broth that I would come back here for. It's very unique and I highly suggest it! You an also pick your spice level. Different combos equates to different OZ sized and varieties. gloomy weather called for some hotpot so bf & I came to the closest one near us on a whim & everything was amazing! We tried the AYCE and the miso broth was delicious with the perfect amount of spice. The wagyu beef was our favorite and melted in your mouth and many veggie options to choose from. The strawberry lemonade was so refreshing & my bf loved the winter melon ice tea. Emmanuel provided excellent service even with how busy it was. Be mindful, there is currently construction going on, today is April 22, and I'm not really sure when the construction will be over. The parking is limited. We were seated right away. The staff was very attentive and polite. Before sitting down, we went to the restroom to wash our hands. It is not accessible for babies, there is no changing table. That's a big negative there. There is more bar space, so it's NOT that great for larger groups. I only see four tables that hold four people. 26 seats at the long bar area. It was our first time visiting, so they gave us a good explanation about the menu, à la carte, and all you can eat options. It was just my son and I for dinner, so I was able to do an all you can eat with a share special, for both of us, it was worth the price. At the end of the all you can eat there was a nice serving of ice cream! Main reason for one star loss, there is no air conditioning at the moment, they have a portable fan and indoor swamp cooler running. So it's a bit loud, so you can't really hear anything except the fans going. There is music, which would be nice to hear. There are Three TVs with different movies going, sadly, we could not listen to any of them because of the loud fans and music. Overall, I would return again for a quick weekend dinner. I was happy to have such great service, and the portions were a good size. Even though we ordered a lot, it was not too much. This was my 1st time having shabu. I'll get to the experience in a moment. I have to compliment the wait staff right out the gate. Over the last 4 years we have seen a dramatic drop off of service, but NOT HERE! The staff were very attentive, helpful and professional. I felt like they were glad to have us there. Thank you for that. My wife, daughter and son-in-law go out for hotpot so they have a better idea of what's what with shabu. They said the experience was as expected, but the meat was good. So for my 1st time I found the experience interesting , but pleasant. It reminded me of pho which I like. Based on her experience we let my daughter choose the menu items. Quail eggs, fish balls and crab made it fun. I'm not big on veggies so my daughter kept throwing them into my side of the pot. I ate all of them and enjoyed. Can I just say that the fish balls were more like fish bombs exploding with flavor. I'm not typically a fan of fish, but this was good. So consider it high praise. I didn't know what to expect from the quail eggs, but they were fun and pretty tasty. If you had to gage a place based on clientele then I would say they must have it right.
