Stopped by this new spot because I was craving katsu. The katsu was solid! The bowl with katsu and the fish eggs were also good. When you walk in all the employees sync and greet you with something in japanese. thought that was funny.

Service here is great!! Very attentive and they are fast to take your order, get you any refills of the unlimited rice, cabbage, and soup!! The miso sesame dressing is delicious with the cabbage. Use the garlic soy sauce and mix it with the egg and drizzle over the rice!!! The US Wagyu set was so fun! Got to grill the meet myself. Needs like 12 seconds in each side to get a nice sear. Very tender and delicious. Definitely put a little of the umami salt. Add your name to the waitlist early, but don't miss your slot when they call your name. Gets super busy on the weekdays after 6:30pm. A cute couple tables outside, 5 booths inside and a bar seating section.

Great service and experience! Food was delicious! Came for lunch and there wasn't a wait so that was nice! I love have they give you unlimited amount of rice, cabbage, and miso soup. Even though you really don't need it, but it's nice to have that option. I tried their pork combination, and I find the tenderloin piece absolutely delicious! They do a special chant for their ikura topped dishes. I can't wait to come back and try their wagyu option.

There's a reason why people stand in line for at least an hour prior to the doors opening. This place is amazing and the service is fast, friendly, and efficient. Came here for Mother's Day and within 20 minutes, the line had grown to about 60 people before the restaurant opened. Ordered the Wagyu set which came with scallop katsu with ikura. I also opted to add the ikura on the rice as well for an additional $9. They had a whole presentation with the ikura at every table. Wagyu was super tender and they brought out a small table side searing plate which had a candle creating the heat in case you wanted your Wagyu more cooked. The onsen egg along with the cabbage salad w/ sesame dressing was cool and refreshing. They will also give you more refills of the cabbage salad, rice, and miso soup. Definitely get there early for the first seating otherwise you will be waiting for quite some time. Fantastic food and service. I look forward to coming back.

Ten No Meshi on Sawtelle may be small, but it has the kind of charm and consistency that keeps you thinking about your next visit before you've even left. I've eaten at plenty of spots along this busy stretch of West LA, but this little restaurant stands out for its simplicity, warmth, and truly exceptional service. The restaurant itself is compact--intimate, even--but in the best way. It feels like a tucked‑away neighborhood spot where the focus is on good food and genuine hospitality. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, and while the space isn't large, it's thoughtfully arranged so you never feel cramped. The vibe is relaxed and unpretentious, the kind of place where you can settle in comfortably whether you're grabbing a quick meal or lingering a bit longer. The service here is exceptional. Not just "good for a small restaurant," but genuinely some of the best overall service I've had in the area. The staff is attentive without hovering, friendly without being forced, and incredibly efficient. You can feel how much pride they take in the food and the experience, and that energy is contagious. I've tried both the katsu and the curry, and they have never disappointed. The katsu is crisp, golden, and perfectly cooked--light enough to enjoy fully but hearty enough to satisfy. The curry is rich, comforting, and deeply flavorful without being heavy or overly salty. Together, they make a combination that feels like pure comfort in a bowl. Every bite tastes intentional, balanced, and made with care. It's the kind of food that hits the spot every single time. Ten No Meshi may be small, but it has a big heart and even bigger flavor. Maybe this place had too much hype but I went in expecting more. After a 30 min wait at 9pm for dinner, we were seated outside. We ordered the A5 wagyu tonkatsu and the pork cutlet bowl to share. They were both pretty good but I've definitely had better tonkatsu elsewhere. Wagyu was served somewhat raw and you can grill them to your liking on the hot stone. I thought the pork cutlet bowl was better because it had some seasoning on the rice (katsudon). There are a few sauces to choose from to dip the Wagyu and my favorite was the spicy dipping sauce. The performance when they serve you food is kinda unique and reminds me of being in Japan for a little bit. Overall a good experience but definitely not going to wait in a long line for this. So hopefully the hype dies down soon.

Easily the best katsu place I've had in LA and probably the best food in the Sawtelle area. Ten no Meshi serves great katsu options from Japan and insane drinks as well. The lines can get pretty hectic so come prepared to wait or arrive at open. Once inside, you are greeted by a friendly array of staff and a cozy atmosphere. Onto the food, between the A5 wagyu and the Kurobuta pork, high quality ingredients are being used here to the max. The pork was tender and juicy while still maintaining the crispy breading from the katsu. From the cozy atmosphere, the friendly staff, and insane food, there's not much more to say other than you need to come!

45 min wait on a Sunday night. When it gets busy they turn off the online waitlist so you have to go there in person to put your name on the waitlist! Make sure when you get a text that your table is almost ready to stand outside because they'll start calling out names. We got the A5 Wagyu set and the pork katsu curry. The A5 Wagyu set comes with miso soup, rice, dipping sauce, egg, and the tiny hot stone pot to cook your meat however you'd like which adds a great presentation. I also loved the little performance they had for the katsu with roe in the beginning! The only downside was that they said we could dip the katsu in the red dipping sauce and the egg, but I felt my egg was over cooked and there wasn't anything to dip in. However, overall the food came out really fast and this is a good place to eat when you're in Sawtelle.

Came here with a group of 6 on a Monday night- not a great place for a bigger group. We had to wait a long time for two tables next to each other to be put together. Overall it was a fun experience. The way they add the roe and egg to some dishes was a fun experience! The menu is small so we basically ordered one of everything, the wagyu combo, beef combo, pork katsu combo, and bowls. I liked the beef you cook on the hot rock and the katsu bowls were really tasty! The combos come with unlimited cabbage, rice and miso soup. It was a little pricey- we each ended up paying $50. Would come back here for the bowls with a smaller group!

Was curious about the claim that they are THE (or one of, at least) best katsu place that finally opened in LA. Had to say they are pretty good. Is it the best? Now that's a tall order. The competition is steep. The crunch and the frying were perfect. The loin is a not tough, and it's not felt like 'right out of the pan'. The fat cap is also modest. Somehow does not give that 'swimming in pork heaven' kind of bursting in your mouth feel like what good pork loin katsu usually give. The sauce selection is nice and kinda steal the show. The rice bowl is also good, perfect ratio between rice, eggs, onion, and gravy. Felt like the rice bowl has a better chance to claim 'the best' compared to katsu itself. Can't say anything about the miso soup though, despite the menu saying it comes with the rice bowl yet i don't see it served on my visit. Ambience was a perfect hustle bustle, the kind you expect from a good japanese food spot. They have a unique way of presenting the katsu and mentaiko, with restaurant-wide cheer and so forth. Be prepared if you are averse to loud noises. The least of my favorite was the service. I just remembered about the miso soup after witnessing it was served to a guest right next to me. Mind you i was seated at the very edge of the bar, right in the line of sight of the host and reception. Forgetting miso soup for a japanese restaurant is wild. But what was notable is when i asked about it to the host, they did confirmed it was supposed to be served. When i pointed out that i've already done with the meal, they doubled down by unapologetically argued that 'some guest enjoy miso soup after finishing a meal'.

Ten no Meshi recently opened, and we came as soon as it opened at 11:30AM; definitely arrive early and put yourself on a waitlist! I opted for the A5 Wagyu combo set, which came with rice, miso soup, a soft-boiled egg, and salad. Also came with a scallop tempura with ikura as an appetizer, which was a nice touch. The A5 wagyu was superb, melt-in-your-mouth, and it was fun to cook it on the small hot stone; it's already partially-cooked for you when you receive it, so it cooks really quickly. It was tasty, and I was satisfied afterwards. However, I will say that it was on the pricey side for the amount of food you get: I know A5 wagyu is expensive, but $57 for a combo meal is pretty steep. Service was also quite slow, but I do appreciate their kind hospitality, and I appreciated the complementary green tea mochi ice cream at the end for my birthday. Overall, Ten no Meshi is a nice, once-in-a-while treat, especially if you're craving katsu.

Delish! I ordered the pork loin and tenderloin set meal. It comes with a salad, miso soup, rice, an egg, and a scallop cutlet. Everything was great but the scallop cutlet was my favorite and it was cooked to perfection. I was seated on the patio which was nice. The wait to be seated was about 45 minutes on a Friday evening. Small parking lot free of charge in back but usually full, there is a parking structure right across if you're not lucky to snatch a parking spot. Very limited seating in restaurant and 3 tables in covered outdoor patio. We dinned on a Saturday lunch and wait was about an hour to hour and half. Last call for lunch is 2:15pm. They close between 2:30-5pm and reopen for dinner after. Food was good and as expected. Great novelty restaurant to try at least once but it's not mind blowing that you should make a long drive to come here if you don't have other plans around the area. Would love to eat here again if I'm already in the area. Price point is pretty pricy in my opinion. Scallop cutlet topped with ikura (salmon roe) comes with all meal sets and it was the best part. Scallop was juicy, tender and silky. Kurobuta Pork Lion Cutlet Set Meal -cutlets were pretty lean but still juicy and tender. Kurobuta Pork Tenderloin Cutlet Set Meal -small fat cap and pork was pretty juicy and tender as well. With the fat cap it adds much more of a savory flavor than the Pork Lion Cutlet did, I personally liked this better. Gyokuro Hojicha Matcha Latte -great quality hojicha and paired with matcha well. It comes unsweetened which I wasn't aware. It was enjoyable but I would preferred if they had a sweetened option.

But as beef stew goes...it wasn't stew-ish enough. Mostly because it has some strong seasonings, and the pieces of beef were cut really small, so it was more like a beef stir fry. That said, it was really tasty. Very flavorful, and the quality of the beef was good. I can see myself going there again. As for he place itself, the staff were nice, though going at lunch meant they were a little (and understandably) distracted. The website makes it seem like it's just for pick-up or delivery, but they have a couple small tables, both inside and outside. And I do mean small. Two people max. There's also a decent sized parking lot (the place is in a mini mall), and there's usually street parking, but at the moment Wilshire is under construction, so plan accordingly.

Visited Hangari on Saturday evening to try their renown Kalguksu with some friends. I've known that…read morespecific parking lot/strip mall to be a nightmare parking wise, so I bit the bullet and used the on-site valet. There is sometimes street parking but the availability is rough, it's tough to park, and even one of the meters we ended up at just didn't work. They only charge a $5 cash service charge though, which isn't bad. We were lucky to be seated right away, even in a packed restaurant. The restaurant has a surprisingly modern design, and is comfortable for as small as it is. We were quickly served their signature kimchis and barley rice. The kimchi, particularly the yeolmu (young summer radish) kimchi, has a unique flavor profile well suited to their food. We ordered 2 bowls of their plain kalgooksu, 1 bibim milmyun, and 1 tteokbokki. The food came out fairly quickly. The kalgooksu was as expected the star of the show. The anchovy broth brings a savory complexity that seems impossible for a soup made from just dried fish and a few other ingredients. It even has a rich, almost thick, quality to it that is surprising for a fish broth. Their noodles, the titular kalgooksu, have the signature irregularity and chew of knife cut noodles. I appreciate the vegetables that always come in kalgooksu, like potato, pumpkin, and zucchini, which offer an earthy heartiness to the light soup. My only complaint is that the potato is in huge irregular chunks, and is barely cooked, though I feel like I have had this issue with many of the kalgooksu bowls I've had over the years. The bibim milmyun was solid. I think that I prefer the texture and flavor of naengmyeon buckwheat noodles, but the milmyun, which are made with mostly wheat flour, still provide a satisfying chew. The sauce tasted bright and fresh, especially with a splash of added vinegar. It also came with a small side portion of spicy pork and some rice paper to wrap. The tteokbokki was the one let down of the meal. To be fair, I wasn't expecting much out of tteokbokki at all restaurant like this whose specialty is essentially the opposite. I ordered the tteokbokki as a "safe pick" for a picky eater in the group. It turned out to be a bit mediocre in our opinion, and that friend ended up enjoying their kalgooksu anyways. If you're looking to try this dish, it's definitely one of if not the best I've had in Southern California, so I'd totally recommend it. I'll also warn to steer clear of the Garden Grove restaurant of the same name and specialty. I think it's a disappointing mimicry of this place.

When you come in, there is a sign that tells you to order before being seated. My sister and her bf had yet to arrive so I placed a sizeable order for the 4 of us. I ordered 2 orders of chiayi chicken (1with white rice and 1 with brown rice), 2 orders of thousand layer pancake (1 with egg and 1 with egg and cheese), shrimp wonton, dance dan noodles, wonton noodle soup, hakka mochi and forbidden rice pudding. For drinks we had a few of the shaken iced green teas and 1 taro milk tea (my sister said it didnt taste like taro) Everything was great. I was surprised my sister's bf liked the food. The chiayi chicken was good with a bit of the chili sauce (sambal). The thousand layer pancake was good if you dip it in the black vinegar (mixed with chili oil and a little soy sauce). The shrimp wonton were surprisingly light and tasty. The dan dan noodles was balanced my medium thin sliced cucumber. Everything was portioned very small so you can try everything.we didnt get additional sides because were getting full. The desserts was what I was looking forward to and it did not disappoint. The hakka mochi reminded me of the soy pudding stalls in singapore that had mochi balls filled with a black sesame paste and peanut paste inside. This is what the hakka mochi was but in dry soft chewy form with black sesame and peanut grains to top it off. For my sister, it reminded her of the filipino dessert pichi pichi. The forbidden rice pudding reminded me of a soupy version of the filipino dessert biko. It had chunks of sweet potatoes and tapioca. Also very good but my bias is the hakka mochi. The ambiance was bright, bustling and inviting. Very small tables perfect for a quick bite. Highly recommend if you want a tapas style lunch that doesn't break the bank.

Marugame Monzo's sauce, however, is the opposite of Menchirashi's. The sauce is SUPER flavorful with a rich, creamy mouthfeel and a strong umami flavor from the bacon and miso. I added mentaiko since I did the same at Menchirashi and honestly, everything was fantastic. The udon itself is pretty much exactly like fresh udon in Japan. Perfectly bouncy, chewy, and satisfying. Staff were also wonderful and service was insanely fast. We probably waited less than 10 minutes for both our udon and tempura, and they consistently checked in to make sure everything was good. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu, especially the uni cream udon. The only thing I didn't like was the shrimp tempura since it had a lot of batter and not a ton of shrimp, so it was on the greasy side. I did enjoy the soft boiled egg tempura though. The yolk exploded into the udon and somehow made the whole bowl even better hehe. There are plenty of tables inside with limited bar seating. If you're a 2 top you might be sharing a table real close with some neighbors (they put a divider). If there's a wait, write your name down on the clipboard outside!

Started with the Pig Ear Salad 滷豬耳朵. Braised thin sliced pig ears dressed with soy sauce, chili oil, sesame oil, scallion, and cilantro. OMG. So good. Tender, flavorful, perfectly braised, with that satisfying chewy texture done right. Also got the Fried Peanut Salad 五味花生 with garlic, cilantro, scallions, vinegar, and Thai chili. Super crunchy, bright, refreshing, and honestly addicting. I added a cup of the Hot & Sour Soup 酸辣湯 too. Organic tofu, beech mushroom, carrot, bamboo, woodear mushroom, and egg. Super comforting with a really balanced tang and peppery heat. Not overly thick or heavy like a lot of Americanized versions can be. Exactly the kind of soup you want during a long travel day. For noodles, I ordered the Dan Dan Noodles 擔擔麵. Sesame-peanut sauce, cucumber, cilantro, crushed peanuts. Delicious on its own already, but I ended up adding some of the fried peanuts from the salad into the noodles and it became even better. Then the Three Cup Chicken 三杯雞 with sesame oil, soy sauce, rice wine, and Thai basil. I do wish it had a little more wok hei, but overall the flavor was still really comforting and savory. Extremely good with rice. Had a glass of Gewürztraminer alongside everything, which paired surprisingly well with the spice and aromatics. Their wine list leans more organic / natural wine focused, which felt very LA in a good way. Ended up sitting at a high top next to one of the managers and had a great conversation throughout the meal. She ended up hooking me up with the Traditional Shaved Ice 傳統刨冰 with grass jelly, red bean, boba, sweet potato balls, taro balls, brown sugar syrup, and condensed milk. I was already planning to order it anyway, and wow... I finished the entire thing. The brown sugar syrup was incredibly fragrant. Packed the leftovers to-go, and that ended up becoming my dinner after landing in San Francisco later that evening. Flight cancellation somehow turned into a really great food day.

HOW DOES IT WORK? They offer menu at the front when you walk…read moren into the restaurant. You would order and pay first, and then they'll give you a number stand. It is self-seating so you'll place the number on your table. They offer some utensils at the tables but it is also self service so you can get your own bowl, plates, utensils and water. FOOD I came with a large group so we ordered a good number of dishes. All the dishes were delicious, flavorful and above and beyond for what I find it to be more a fusion-Asian restaurant. I particularly liked their brown sugar milk team as it comes with boba and grass jelly. And their mochi was SO delicious. This would be a place my parents would enjoy a lot. PARKING It's in downtown LA so parking can be tough. There are plenty of paid parking structures nearby. WOULD I COME BACK? YES!

They currently have a great deal at $12, which makes it even better value for what you're getting. The sullungtang comes with rice, soup, and two types of kimchi. We also added beef brisket since my friend wasn't a big fan of cartilage - more for me! The pot itself wasn't too deep, though there was a good portion of protein cartilage. Also important to note that rice was NOT included! The brisket add on came as a pre-cooked brisket that was added in after, as it didn't initially fit in the pot. The staff member told us at the time that broth refills were free. However, when it came time for refills, they said it was only one time - poor communication. Paying was fairly straightforward, but for future visits, I'd likely just come for their lunch special sullongtang after this experience.
