He looked up at me, made eye contact & went back to writing. He continued writing (I took this as a challenge & started timing his ignorance). After 10 minutes of patiently waiting for him to come ask if I'd like a drink or food menu, I went up to the bar and asked if he could help me. He asked "what do you want?" "I'm thinking of a drink, since this is a bar, and maybe something to eat if you have a menu." A Woodford old fashioned was $20 - this location doesn't warrant Las Vegas pricing. Service sucks - night 2 was a replay. I watched 2 other groups of customers sit at a table, were ignored and then have to walk up to the bar to order and fetch their drinks.

Well, on the night I was there there was a celebration of "La Quinceanera". What is that, you ask? Ahh, glad you asked as I had to also. La Quinceanera is basically a "coming out" party for a 15 year old girl celebrating in the traditional Mexican way. That would certainly explain all the young people (and I mean young!) sipping soda around the bar all dressed up in their finest. I thought I had walked into the middle of a high school dance. For the few of us at the bar who were over the age of 15, I think the bartenders were relieved to be making real drinks as I think the onslaught of "kiddie cocktails" took them all by surprise! Don't get me wrong. WXYZ bar located on the lobby level of the Loft hotel is a contemporary adult space. There are modern couches and chairs clustered around the fireplace as well as a full sized pool table in the one corner. The small bar located at one end has a light "show" that is constantly changing that I found more distracting than engaging. My favorite thing were the bar napkins that had word search puzzles on them- perfect if you are sitting by yourself. This area opens up to an outdoor pool, so I can only bet how lively and fun this area could be in the Summer months. A downside? The parking situation here is a bit of a maze. They block off the few parking spots in front of the hotel for the hotel van and expect you to park in the large parking garage shared with the Muvico theater. All fine and good except the parking garage is expensive (don't forget to get your ticket validated) and it's a bit of a walk if you end up in the wrong section. Follow the signs to "general parking" and park as far south as you can and you should be okay. If you go the wrong way- you will have to circle past the hotel and try the whole parking thing again. Not a bad spot if you just want to grab a drink while waiting for someone's plane to come in at O'Hare or to grab a drink after a movie at Muvico. And hopefully on the night you go- the average age will not hover in those awkward teenage years!

We were very disappointed with the New Year's Eve show we saw at 6:30pm ran by smoothchicago.com…read more First of all why wasn't the Ice Bar up and running? It was NY Eve! We had to go all the way down to the hotel bar which is not handy at all. The seating was so tight in the Montrose Room you could barely get around, especially with no coat check. The sound system was not good. The Drummer had 7 mics on him and he was way too loud. You could barely hear the younger keyboard guy (forgot his name), even Althea Rene had to ask for him to be turned up. It has been many years since we were last at the Montrose Room and saw Norman Brown perform. Things were so much better back then and worth the tix price. Please ditch those tv tray type tables that tip easily with something better to put your drink on. You can do better! As to not just complain, we did enjoy the musicians and overall we enjoyed their music. Plus it was fun to dress up and go out to hear live music for New Year's Eve. However, to pay good money for the tix and pay a lot for parking, just to be left disappointed saddened us. Not enough effort was put into the whole experience.

A bonafide live music venue outside the city limits? Believe it!…read more I have the feeling the luxe Montrose Room won't be a well-kept suburban secret for much longer. Housed in the seriously chic InterContinental hotel, this intimate music venue boasts ringside cabaret seating and killer acoustics. It's obvious they poured a large investment in making sure the sound is top-notch! Right outside the doors leading into the Montrose Room is the Ice Bar. The specialty cocktails are made with some of my favorite things: St-Germain, champagne floats, passion fruit juice, and lychee vodka among other sexy ingredients. For the man in your life? Some stellar whisky, bourbon and cognac selections. Tip: Don't forget to have your parking validated by a bartender on the way out and you'll only pay $5. And, be sure to take a stroll around the hotel - the art collection is FAB.

However, I loved the opportunity to enjoy live music on a Tuesday night, particularly tunes appealing both to me as a Gen X'er and my Boomer father. The service reminded me of the extra lengths of care folks seem to go to in the Midwest. My waitress was very attentive to my dairy allergy...& in Illinois, the laws aren't as strict as in Massachusetts. I selected the salad with farro and chicken and the dressing was delicious. Very generous portions! The chicken was juicy and flavorful: well-seasoned with a Mediterranean blend that wasn't overpowering. The mixed green lettuce itself was notable. I loathe limp lettuce...so much so that I often switch to butter lettuce or romaine for the crunch. These were among the best mixed green leaves I've had-very fresh. The farro was the perfect texture, without being overly salty (as it often is elsewhere.) I was glad to have ordered the "flight" of red wines-all 3 of which I enjoyed. Note: we were able to order chicken fingers to go-which weren't on the menu, but which my very picky son loved. The ambiance was lovely, with an airy feel, at candle-lit tables, with a view of a nice lounge area. My visit to Flight was among the best hotel dining experiences I've had. My Dad reported enjoying his turkey burger as well-the caramelized onions in particular.
