I attended a Saturday morning service and Bat Mitzvah, and was impressed as soon as I walked in the building, I was immediately impressed with how light, bright and open everything was. The rabbi has a great personality - his love really comes through. The cantor has one of the most amazing singing voices I've ever heard - she is phenomenal! This is a reform congregation - and as the reviewer Joel mentioned - everyone is welcome! Gay, interfaith, whatever. It's a very warm and inviting place of community. I don't know that I was touched by the spirit to seek out a religious connection - but if that ever were to happen, I'd really hope I could find a place like BHS to call home. It's what a religious institution should be!

Interfaith and gay families have a home at the Brooklyn Heights Synagogue. There is a great concern for Tzedakah, education and mutual support. BHS has been running a homeless shelter for over 20 years, religious services, educational programs and social events. It is a place that can easily become your home.

Most of the time the no one came up to me and said hello or even cared if I ever came back. The Rabbi's never introduced themselves to me. Beth-El is very different! When I first walked in I was taken with the sun shining in from the beautiful stain glass. The women sit on one side and the men sit on the other. When the Torah came around the Rabbi greeted everyone in both the men and women's section! Women aren't ignored in this shul. He welcomed me and invited me to stay for kiddish. The other members of the shul also said hello and wanted to get to know me. Even though people have been going there for years they aren't cliquish at all. There is a book club, movie club and weekly lessons that are always worth coming to. We have a regular group of people who always have interesting opinions. If you're looking to doven at a shul which has a family feel this is the place. There are young people, older people, a mix of black hats and more modern orthodox. Everyone is respectful of each other. There is a full kiddish meal downstairs and people usually stay and talk for a long time afterward. It didn't take long for me to feel at home here, a matter of weeks actually. Within a year I was asked to join the board.

But with ltr everything was quick, straight forward, and actually helpful. I learned what I needed, felt more confident as a driver, and passed my road test. You can tell the owners and instructors really love teaching they're knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely want you to succeed. I'm kind of surprised I'm the first person to review this church, but so be it. I've done some…read morechurch-shopping since I've relocated to Staten Island, and I haven't found any house of worship which even vaguely resembles First Bible. This is-per the name-a Bible-believing, Reformed, sola scriptura, sola fide, non-denominational church where Jesus and his word comes first. Even though this is not what I would describe as a "seeker sensitive" church, people who aren't believers will be welcomed and treated with dignity and warmth. Those who are believers will be welcomed as brethren. But no one will be coddled. Pastor Veach, Pastor Dean, and all of the elders at First Bible are performing a much-needed ministry. They are an integral part of the Staten Island community-through Operation Jerusalem and ministries to local nursing homes-and the wider global community, from Haiti, to Poland, to France and the Philippines and beyond. I've been at services where newborn believers from China have given their testimony. First Bible really is a light unto the world. I'd encourage anyone who lives in Staten Island, or New York City, to see the good works they are doing for yourself.

The Holy Spirit is with those in FBC. I've never seen anything like it before. What's preached is JESUS first, and it is solely scripture. No additions or subtractions, just the words from your Bible. I love attending and being with other believers; this is written during quarantine and I seriously am excited for the ban to be lifted first and foremost to return to church. Words can't do it justice, just come visit.
